Spotters (actually my two younger cousins visiting from Hertfordshire, so this was all new to them!) at Low Fell (my usual haunt at the time) in July 1967.. 62023 with a southbound coal train, probably to Tyne Yard D8590 at the same spot. Their baby brother was in the pram. Trevor -

@ MIke, The Stationmaster That's great - many thanks! I realise this is a bit OT on a GBRf and Scotrail thread (!) but I can see from that site which XC trains are composed of 7 coaches - that must mean HST, right? OK, I'll check on Friday morning what 1V64 1308 Edinburgh-Plymouth is composed of on the Edinburgh page and check it out in the flesh at Newcastle (due 1442). Kind regards Trevor

Many thanks for going to the trouble of forwarding that, 4630. I also have a copy and when I turned up at Newcastle a week or two back the FO 1V54 turned out to be a Voyager. I need to know the actual, not the proposed workings. I think BoD might have the answer (in the post following yours). Kind regards Trevor

I'm struggling to get RTT to tell me the info I'm after - perhaps I am expecting too much? I am trying to find out which CrossCountry trains through Newcastle (if any) are operated by HSTs, rather than the usual Voyagers. Is there a way of finding this out, or indeed, is there anywhere else which can give me accurate info in advance? Many thanks in anticipation Trevor

Another one from the archives - with a bonus bus on the bridge! 43071 heads north through Gateshead with a mixed rake of coaches on 30th October 1988 Trevor -
A 4-coach DMU from Sunderland or Middlesbrough to Newcastle climbs towards Pelaw in the early morning light circa 1979 (sorry, cannot confirm actual date) Trevor

Many thanks for the information. I should have written that on the slide mount at the time! Kind regards Trevor -

During a few days in London in 2002 I took this picture, but made no notes about it at the time. I think it was part of a large artwork showing the history of the city. Can anybody remind me, please, where it is situated? Sorry if this is in the wrong section - no doubt it will be moved if necessary. Thanks in advance Trevor -
Not sure what type of dmu this is, but it appears to be a 3+3 set approaching Plymouth from the west on 28th May 1975.. Trevor

The old and the new

This sounds like it could be the start of a thread on the subject (although it must have been done earlier?) Anyway, here's my very similar take on the subject at Newcastle on 11th May 2019. The Azuma was still on driver training duties or similar, if I remember correctly. Trevor -

OK, so my view must be a red herring. Sorry for any confusion. (Still a good excuse to revive my old photo!) Trevor -

I've uploaded this one before, a year or two ago, but this talk of Reading in the last couple of posts reminded me I took this in the same spot(?) The trackwork matches. 50009 + D7016 + spotters at Reading on 28th May 1974 Trevor -

Hmm ... looks like I might have jumped the gun a bit, although it's been a while since I saw a CC HST that far north. I have amended my original post. It looks like there may be a FO working south through Newcastle in daylight, plus a few other early (too early for me!) morning workings. Otherwise during the hours of darkness. (Info from a thread on the RailUKforums) Thanks for the correction. Cheers Trevor -
