  1. I have an iPhone and use an inexpensive (cheaper than a WiFiMaus handset) android tablet with a 10" screen. I also have a WiFi Maus, as I eventually tired of the "slider" throttle on the tablet, so now the tablet is mainly used to control points etc. Either the iPhone or the tablet can have the Z21Updater app, and it's easy to use, or I found it so the last time I updated the firmware on the Z21. Our household is a mix of device and computer ecosystems for a variety of reasons, but I've never been tempted to re-puropse one of my wife's older iPad minis for the railway, and I certainly am not inclined to splash out for a new iPad when an inexpensive Android tablet will do. 2. I don't think the 8116 will operate servos. I asked the question on the Yamorc message board (I think), and was advised that it might work with some additional components, but it got too complex for me, so I bought a TrainTech decoder. If I remember correctly Iain Morrison @WIMorrison provided some info in that thread, so perhaps he can help here.
  3. I think you can upload videos if they have a file extension matching the ones listed and are less than 10MB. Otherwise you need to find a hosting site and link to it.
  4. I'm bumping this as I have the same question, plus one on disassembly. I've acquired a Train Bleu set, and while I have no problem removing the roof or bogies on the coaches, the instructions aren't quite clear on removing the body - I think I can see the clips mentioned at each end, but getting them to release is proving terrifying, considering the possibility of damage. For the lighting itself I plan to try ESU light bars, which can be cut, and are narrow, so I think they may fit. I'd hoped someone would have answered the OP by now.
  5. So you have one? I looked and the listing still says "only with the purchase of a locomotive" but they probably didn't bother to change the text. I wonder if that's also the case with the NER railcar. Do you know what the manufacturer of the decoder is? If it's ESU I'm tempted. I have an ESU sound decoder in it now, but with a generic sound project. The A5 performance is extraordinary in combination with the ESU.
  6. I need to check with Rapido Canada to see if the reverse will be true. Shipping from the UK to Canada has become a major expense, so being able to either ship from Galactic HQ in Markam or even pick up at their warehouse on those times we pass through when visiting family in Toronto would represent a significant saving.
  7. Less attractive is 13% HST on anything over $20. That's Canada's de minimus and our tax rate in Ontario. The tax rates vary from province to province.
  8. Is it a new one? I recently got a Piko locomotive with sound, and the Piko decoder is a funny old thing. I tried reading it with Lokprogrammer as I believe in the past ESU provided the decoders for Piko. Not anymore apparently. Tried again with JMRI and had a bit more success, but it's still not perfect. I use Z21 (Black), and am experimentting with iTrain. The momentum settings are odd. I had trouble with speed settings as well, though it's not as bad as you describe with yours. In any case, the lighting works in mine as it should, but it's difficult to figure out the other bits. The decoder documentation with the locomotive is a bit thin.
  9. A popular power bus choice these days for the modular crowd this side of the pond is Anderson Powerpole connectors https://powerwerx.com/anderson-powerpole-connectors-15amp-bonded
  10. What sound profile did you use for the railcar?
  11. Not far from you. Will they let you save the cost of postage and pick up in person? I have a mate who lives in Kelowna. I'm tempted, but the price is one that has to be budgeted. Not sure I have room to add a line item at that price this year.
  12. Duly ordered and hopefully on the way soon. I have limited access to hardcopy resources (the nuisance of an intervening ocean), and the electronic interwebs haven't been forthcoming, so would someone be kind enough to explain what the SECR lamp rules were for brake vans? 4 lamp irons leaves plenty of room for embarrassment should I put one or more in the wrong place.
  13. I have a Lima HO model that I tried, and the answer is it copes if you're willing to put up with the click of the flanges hitting every chair. I'm not sure about the nong term effect on the chairs it would have. I suspect the OO models of the same era would be much the same.
  14. If you can find one of the NCE USB interfaces get it and use JMRI to program your locos. Easy visual interface and other than connecting the powercab to provide power, you never have to touch the handset.
  15. Never had them trip the command station. The click of the relay is quite audible though. It's been a while so I may have done an adjustment at first, but it would have been according to what's in the instructions.
  16. For anyone who hadn't yet downloaded manuals or software updates from the Digikeijs support link it's too late. I was at a computer that I hadn't downloaded a manual, so I tried to get in today to do it and the message "oops the help centre no longer exists." Fortunately I have the manual on another computer so it's not a big issue for me, but as of now it will come down to sharing pdfs on request I guess.
  17. I have two set up with Z21. I just connected the wires as per the instructions and left everything else at default. They have worked fine now for almost a year.
  18. Thank you for the pointer to the Littfinski unit. While I've heard of the company I hadn't really looked into what they have.
  19. Ok, regarding Digikeijs' (of which I am aware) closure the point is moot. I have the 5013s in hand, have had them for a while now, and did not pay a premium price. I should probably have made that clear in the OP. I guess I'll just see if it works then. At least the question I asked was answered.
  20. I thought you were talking about the sensor module. I didn't read the post prior to yours carefully as my quick scan showed it wasn't addressing my question. What would you recommend as a less expensive option for a reverse loop that doesn't involve functioning on a short? I have used Digitrax AR1, which are relatively inexpensive, and more readily available where I am than some of the more exotic European items. I was hoping to get away from that sort of mode of operation.
  21. Don't the Roco DCC couplers come with a decoder configured for them?
  22. This is the answer I was hoping for, and to be honest, I should have been able to figure it out for myself now that I see it in writing and think it through. Thank you.
  23. I specifically chose the Yamorc unit because it has the same characteristics as the Digieijs one. Karst kindly confirmed that it would work in exactly the configuration shown in the 5013 manual.
  24. Something occurred to me to ask, as I'm in the process of redoing some wiring with an eye to future automation, and am intending to replace my AR1 reverse loop module with a Digikeijs DR5013, with detection provided by a Yamorc YD6016LN. I plan to use full fat detection, rather than rely on short circuit reversing, and it just occurred to me to ask what happens with a train that has an end vehicle that will be detected? For example, a train of lit coaches will have the locomotive picked up by detection, but lit vehicles and those with resistors on the wheelsets are also picked up. Will that "confuse" the reversing module if it's relying on detection to switch the polarity?
  25. Pre-orders require credit card because they process the transaction when they are sending you the model. I don't think PayPal allows that kind of transaction. Rails does the same with pre-orders, and I suspect so do others.
