  1. GWR etches applied, painted and weathered. Also number plates and new dome added. I think the dome is a bit large, but it was the most suitable one I could find for a GWR loco with a curved boiler. I've added the words 'Great Western' to the tank sides. I couldn't find conclusive evidence that this livery was applied, but given the Victories were 'Swindonised' I have assumed it would have been. Now I've seen the photo I may just tone the weathering down a bit.
  2. That’s a very good question Peter and one I agonised with myself. In the end I used liquid, as opposed to gel, superglue. I wouldn’t say I made a perfect job of it, but it’s ok and the frets are holding firm. Make sure you check the fit before gluing and cut the fret out carefully. The thin part above the cab door is particularly delicate. I’d be interested if anyone has an alternative approach but obviously too late for me
  3. Hi - could someone from BRM clarify if the intentio GWR signal box is OO or O please? It's described as OO in the magazine, but I can only see an O gauge one on the Intentio website (a query to Intentio has gone unanswered). Thanks
  4. Ditto. Looking forward to adding . Just need to finish off decorating for SWMBO first
  5. Whatever your views on Brexit, isn't the EU outside 'our territory' :-) ? I'm not sure of the cost impact, but onshore production would have potential for bringing forward delivery dates
  6. To be honest if I had my time over again I wouldn't take the dome off. It wasn't easy and took a lot of cutting and particularly filing. The latter leading to minor damage to the boiler. I think the new dome I have is too tall, but a search revealed nothing better. The dome James suggests is not suitable as it has a flat base. The safety valve I took off with a small razor saw and then flatten ed off with a file
  7. @SteveyDee68 Hope you read this. The brass dome is from Springside Models. Its DA46 Dean goods dome. It’s not cheap as it’s brass and may be a bit large. Wasn’t easy to fit either. The 247 developments pannier dome, mentioned by James, is no good as it has a flat base. I just couldn’t find anything else though
  8. For James at PI Hello, I’ve just been trying to fit the GWR etches to my Victory and they’re both left hand sides. Can I get a RHS etch? My Victory is currently looking a bit of a mess as it goes through the westernisation, but with only one side
  9. Very similar to me, apart from no divorce and I ended up using code 75 track. All my old Mainline, Airfix and Wrenn stock is now history. I'm not sure if I would have gone for DCC anyway given the relative simplicity of my layout, but I do wish the bullhead track had been around in 2016. BTW not that I have lived in Cardiff, but I spent many years working there
  10. Indeed. I've been keeping my eyes on their website for some time
  11. Thanks Mike. That’s what I was planning to do, just wanted the reassurance
  12. Hello all. I apologise if this has already been covered, but with the new large prairie release is there a 7 year gap in coverage (from 1927 to 1934)? If I have read correctly all those numbered in the 31 series were renumbered to 51 series in 1927, but I can't see Dapol listing a 51 number with 'Great Western' livery, these only being with the shirtbutton livery. Thanks
  13. Brilliant news, but can someone clarify with regards to the’post war livery’, is this post 1st world war? I thought the post world war 2 livery was ‘Great Western’ and twin city crest, whereas the’GWR’ and crest was up to mid 30’s
  14. Thanks for your responses on my livery questions. There will certainly be a bit of weathering
  15. Hello Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm looking for some guidance. I want to change the GWR version from shirtbutton to the 'GWR and crest' livery (pre 1934). Is it as simple as removing the shirtbutton and adding GWR / crest, or are there additional things I would need to do? Thanks in anticipation
  16. I've now read the previous comments on this matter and wish I'd read these earlier. I have no issue with BRM adding freebies to the print versions sold in the shop which are not on the subscription version. What annoyed me is that the article states you can buy them from the BRM website and made no reference to the fact that you can pick them up cheaper by buying a the shop version I will be more wary in future
  17. Dan - I didn't know you offered cups of tea. Make mine a bacon sandwich and cup of coffee from your excellent eating establishment downstairs next time I call in, hopefully for my new Collett coaches :-) Simon
  18. Re Terraced Houses I am a subscriber to the printed edition of BRM and was pleased at the time to read about the low relief terraced houses that have been commissioned by BRM. I promptly ordered 2 from the online shop at £9.99 each. However, I was horrified to see today that if I had bought the printed magazine from a shop I would have got a free terraced house. I could have bought an additional 2 copies and saved myself £10. I'm not happy......
  19. I'm lucky enough to live close enough to call in to the shop. Always very friendly, accommodating (more than happy to do one off orders) and excellent prices (just recently bought a loco that was at least £9 cheaper than larger outlets). Cheers Dan x 2
  20. Just come across the survey - great idea I had raised the question myself on the Hornby website, but this survey approach definitely has more merit to it Last year I bought 4 David Geen Toplights which I am going to have to wait until next year for them to be made and will cost a small fortune in relation to an RTR version (I wish I could solder and paint) Notwithstanding that I would still be very interested in buying RTR as well - can't have enough of a good thing
  21. And thankyou for your best wishes. I'm only a few months into the layout so a long way off being 'completed' (if they ever are). I wish though I'd come across your layout before I'd started the layout build - copying (plagiarism) is the best form of flattery. Although as I' still a couple of years off retirement, and have less time than I would like, I would have stuck to code 75 track. I have also just come across 'a Nod to Brent' and I really look forward to reading through, but at over 900 pages that could take some time. Notwithstanding the above I have tried to add a rather staged, as still being worked on, photo of the station -showing parts of the Timber Track station buildings and the footbridge. I say tried as I won't know if it has successfully loaded until I've uploaded this post. Fingers crossed Simon
  22. Hi John Like a number of others above I have just come across your wonderful layout. In some ways it is similar to the style layout I have started to build, including the Timber Tracks station and island platform buildings and the same footbridge kit. However, I fear yours is leaving mine in the shade; nevertheless a great inspiration
