In spite of being a 3mm modeller, I think this is a great development. An attractive scale and throwing out the usual British compromises. Could tempt modellers in other scales looking for a new project to try out. I'm sure the rolling stock will appear; I've been impressed with what Corgi achieved in this scale. Nigel
  2. There's a couple of shots of Fred Lea's Duchess taken at the 2008 AGM: https://sites.google.com/site/3mmpublic/gallery/agm-2008---geoff-helliwell-s-pictures
  3. What wheels are they Garry?
  4. By the turn of the century the Cambrian was upping it's game by replenishing its stock alongside new liveries. By 1902 my guess would be that a lot of the stock encountered would be showing new liveries.
  5. Re livery, here's a couple of 2-plank fixed side wagons in 3mm/ft scale Own transfers and chasses, Coast Line models bodies, double brake hangers. Also more wagons Scratch built brake van and 2p drop side wagon, Coast Line coal wagon body. My feeling is that the grey is more medium than light; I used Precision LNER wagon grey. Some solebars have ironwork picked out in black, most don't. Nigel
  6. Very well written article. Must try one of his models. In a sense Athearn used to do something similar. Diesels in a particular shape eg GP40 in some basic liveries and indeed some undecorated. Other companies produced parts to enable particular variations to be modelled. But these days people expect that detailing off the shelf.
  7. A lot of people give zoom a miss. Not the best way to discuss things. Better to start a thread or two on the egroup.
  8. Peter White handles the finescale wheels and you should have no problems; I believe stocks are high. Likewise when the Parkside and Cambrian wagon ranges changed hands I believe stocks were good. I don't know of any shortages with coach bogie sides. Most use MJT bogies to attach the sides to. 3SMR also do bogies.
  9. Maybe the committee should set up an advisory group of Triang enthusiasts to tell them what developments they would like to see. Nigel
  10. Might not be just a single rake. Maybe the full brake was detached from other LNWR coaches which went elsewhere.
  11. Here's one at Eglwys Fach. Think it's been smartened up since this was taken. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2283721 Nigel
  12. Well, there is the fact that a lot of crossovers were between lines where the separation was more than 6'... In stations, for example, or between fast and slow running lines. I'll get me coat. Nigel
  13. Recently had a go at a laser-cut kit. The interior faces were separate bits. So I painted them before adding them. Has advantages. I'd suggest painting the white uppers then applying masking tape masking tape before painting the lower green. Seem to remember white and green being right; the latest Great Western Way might confirm.
  14. Original order was larger but I said a couple for me to play with would be sufficient for now, so others could benefit. I'm still mulling over what project to use them for. Nigel
  15. Received a couple of kits forming part 1 of my order a few days ago. Looking good, planning to get to work on them. Nigel
  16. Quite a lot (most?) stone buildings in Mid Wales use yellowish bricks for quoins. In the Aberystwyth area it may be because the stone used for the walls isn't suitable to form window surrounds. Where stone is used for quoins it doesn't have that yellowish tinge; it's more a neutral buff.
  17. For colours, here's Barmouth Station: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/classic-railway-station-barmouth-northwest-wales-294626447
  18. Some churches along the Coast were quite small. Nigel
  19. Here's Tywyn in 1987. Much less cramped than now. Chris, think your 2 story houses are wrong for the area. There's some useful examples in the above pic. How about some shops as well, and the odd chapel/church?
  20. How about: Leave the cottages where they are, with back gardens between them and the platform. Have more cottages and gardens, moved more towards the railway, behind the signal box, having open space between them and the road, with the goods yard access coming off that open space. I'd move the signal box south west to be closer to the tracks. Nigel
  21. With colour an awful lot depends on lighting. I reckon "the right sort of thing" is good enough.
  22. My guess: steel toplights like these. In terms of variations much the simplest course. Very attractive coaches, to my eye.
  23. Could fit nicely into an Uxbridge (Vine Street) style model of a suburban terminus.
  24. Maplin closed May 2018 and Maplin Online opened June 2018. Strong links, methinks.
