  1. The S&T also used them, I remember seeing them carrying cable drums quite often
  2. All the different pipes/conduits on diesel locos were colour coded for ease of identification, don't know when it was introduced but it was certainly there in the seventies so they were probably built like it the sixties. There were several colours, Orange for electrical, Lube oil was pink Fuel oil (diesel) was brown Water was blue There are a few more that others will probably remember - my MP12 was a long time ago!
  3. That lamp was intended to illuminate the Vac gauge and if iirc it came on with the other gauge illumation, but was too bright (relatively!) that's why they mostly had a 'shade' of a metal box or tube with hole in to limit the light output, however the bulb was very often just removed by the drivers especially if there was no shade.
  4. I think you'll find that the red flag is because the crossing is under local control, if within a possession, the protection will be elsewhere.
  5. Superb, hope to get to see it sometime Love the idea of sound chips in the wagons
  6. https://www.rmt.org.uk/news/rmt-announces-strike-action-on-virgin-west-coast
  7. You obviously have a problem with unions (Or their leaders) look at the RMT website it quotes a 9 to 1 vote by the members in favour of action .
  8. Mr Cash does not have any drivers (or if he does its only a handful) Union leaders cannot just call a strike for purely political reasons, as said above a ballot now has to held. As a (now ex) driver and paid up member of ASLEF I can assure you it's not easy to get a vote for strikes, in fact most things tend to get voted through now. Do you think anyone would really strike for 0.4% of a pay rise? Any gain from a win would be gobbled up by lost wages. I don't know the ins and outs of this but if you look at the RMT website you will see there is more to it. And the fact there was a massive vote in favour of action shows Virgin have lot of unhappy staff. However as Phil says the fact that ASLEF aren't involved means most trains will probably run with management filling train managers roles.
  9. Yes definitely BR, but apart from that for me RES was head and shoulders above what followed, everyone seemed to be working together and trying to make it work - shame EWS threw it all away
  10. Lovely job, looks really good, do You seal the powders with anything?
  11. Just to answer myself found this extra video and someone in the comments said they collided with some other wagons killing one person in the process https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=920490791432204&id=128950430586248
  12. Unfortunately no more planes will cross it as it now closed and fenced on both sides. The airfield is also closed and is destined to be a housing estate
  13. More than likely for route retention.
  14. Yes Raglan - or at least it was I've not been there for a while
  15. Just scrolling through the thread - if I hadn't read your post then I would've thought it was a painting too - an amazing photo
  16. I'm afraid to say they all come up as the same photo to me as well
  17. I find it hard to believe that newts are an endangered species - they seem to turn up all over the country whenever there's a planning dispute!
  18. Those have actually been there since the motorway was built! They were for a planned fuel station/service area which never happened.
  19. Actually those buffers should not be silver, they were never bright steel the heads and shanks on that type of buffer are cast and were always rusty As always use photos http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/grampuszbo/h23772693

The wipers on 08's don't 'park' there is a just a simple on/off knob ( rotary air valve) and the wipers just stop where they are turned offEdit to add - once they are turned off they tend to 'droop' back down to the lowest point

There were more built with the earlier doors (over 300 I think) But only 266 survived into TOPS hence 08266 is the cut off point before the pressed doors/short hinges.
