  1. breaking news in Loughborough junction near brixton https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-44520759
  2. Thanks. It's Candy apple red. (Don't tell the purists ). Took 13 coats of paint in all - 3 metallic silver, 6 translucent red and 4 clear. I then spent a further week sanding and polishing.
  3. I've got midland lookylikes on my 71 midget and think they look 100 times better than either of the Rostyle offerings it's had in the past..
  4. She's filled out a lot since her Firefly / Serenity days.
  5. Art Deco was French. Very impressed with your wiring though
  6. I've just picked up a copy of 'the Merseyside express' on Ebay. taken from June 98 I believe.
  7. Thoroughly enjoyed a few hours at the show today. My 2 grandkids were enthralled by tamshooglie. So much so that we had to go back after lunch. Laurencekirk held their attention for quite a while too.
  8. Bringing my grandkids on Saturday. hoping for a Thomas layout to keep them happy
  9. Brilliant work. Exactly what I'm hoping to achieve.
  10. My inner pedant nearly had a heart attack last night when the subtitles came up with 'axel counter'.
  11. For me it's the end of the film that stirs the most memories. Having been born and brought up in Blyth, Northumberland the closing scenes with carter running along the top of the north blyth coal staithes strikes a chord. My dad was manager of Blyth Tugs and he had to make many trips to the staithes to discuss haulage with colliers, often taking me with him. I can recall how rickety the woodwork felt when the last of the steam tankies was trundling coal wagons along the top. Quite frightening for a 5 year old. Of course, the movie gets a bit daft at this point with carter running north from the staithes (onto cambois beach) only to end up below the blackhall colliery aerial bucket line some 30 miles or so south of Blyth near Harlepool. Still, loads of places throughout the movie for a northern lad to recognise. The Stallone remake isn't worth the cellulose it's printed on. Graeme
  12. you're all wrong of course. There is no finer sight than a Princess Coronation at full chat - even in the wrong livery Graeme
  13. because North-eastern fish are nicer ?
  14. I've had one for abut 30 years on the lower edge of my peripheral vision so if I try to see it, it appears to slowly sink out of view. Hadn't thought about it for years - till now. Graeme
  15. This would suggest you're going to remove the big information panel that obscured the far end of the hotel when you exhibited at Glasgow last year. That'll be a huge improvement. Graeme
  16. Some of the '4' channels have more ads than content. An hour long marvel's agents of shield episode usually only has 30 minutes of storyline.
  17. occasionally you do get very good service. I ordered some packs of coach wheels on ebay yesterday afternoon. To my surprise they were delivered in Amazon packaging first thing this morning. No Idea who the courier was but most unusual to see one out and about on a sunday.
  18. I'd imagine if they'd been in a position to film the sack truck incident they'd have stopped it happening in the first place. As for polishing, I do similar with cars. It's surprising how quickly scratches can disappear with the right technique.
  19. Bryan de Grineau's 'scot passes Scot' painted in 1937 shows the lamps to be black. One has to assume he was there (or at least close by) at the time so that's good enough for me Graeme
  20. would these approved children be attending an approved school?
  21. I went yesterday which in hindsight was a mistake as it was far too busy. I joined the queue to pay when it was almost backed down to the other entrance by the clyde bar. Once inside it was 3 deep to view most of the layouts. Like Barney I wasn't wowed by many of the layouts - I've a strong preference for steam and longer runs so really, only Dalby Wood and a couple of others filled my needs. There did seem to be quite a few layouts where nothing was going on for ages and a handful where poor running was the order of the day. Did manage to have a pleasant chat with Tony Wright though.
  22. Was really nice to have a chat yesterday Tony. (the North-east accent living near Lanark). If I'd know about the RM award I'd have added my congratulations in person. It occurred to me after I moved on that I should have said I was the one you sent the bundle of LMS journals to last year. Fascinating reading. I was a bit disappointed with the show. Too busy for me - I'm not aggressive enough to push to the front. I'm also not too bothered by 'modern image' layouts (apologies to the diesel fans) and there weren't as many steam layouts as I'd have liked but I did enjoy 15 minutes or so watching trains go by on Dalby Wood. I was also disappointed with the retailers. After our chat I went round them all twice trying to find a brass wagon kit to try my hand at but there were none. I did leave with a parkside dundas LMS guards van to keep me occupied for a few nights but it looks like I'll have to shop online for a brass kit - isn't that what the retailers are complaining about? Graeme
