  1. That was "Wheels", the last incarnation of something that had been in Leamington Spa in the late 80s/early 90s, doing rail and bus stuff and also catering. We ate there one night when the pannier 9600 did a main line trip there from Tyseley. Great fun
  2. Ah, sorry 5050, when I last saw Farmer John, he suggested to me that he'd be going up too! Hope you had a good day, I was at Mother Ship. If you want a more in-depth look, just shout and I'll get it sorted.
  3. Shot of the other side of Imperial No.1 here Dave, hope you & John had a good day http://collection.sciencemuseum.org.uk/objects/co205802/fireless-locomotive-named-imperial-steam-locomotive
  4. Are the repairs to Big Ben worth it?
  5. https://blog.nrm.org.uk/how-much-flying-scotsman-original/
  6. Andrew, some of those subjects are actually covered already, and others will be in enhanced displays at York and Shildon too in the future. Yes, the Senior Curator is an Industrial Railway Society member and author of a new book on narrow gauge locos...
  7. We actually have a lot less Royal Train than we used to, three vehicles went up to Locomotion and others have been transferred across the country over the years.
  8. I've been involved in writing the new labels. They will be in place by the end of May.
  9. Poor condition of non-steam artefacts? We're restoring the 2HAP, got plans for the 306, all the diesels are presentable, and four are now on display in the Great Hall Triangle area. The Freightliner outer was restored two years ago and we've just collected HSFV1. The 71 is going into Shildon workshops very soon...we're working hard on the collection.
  10. I'm less worried about the NRM than I was 5 years ago There are plans, plans to tell a coherent, relevant story and bring in objects that are relevant and important. Stick with it, regretting the past is easy, looking to the future is the challenge. Yes I work there, yes I like railways - and believe it or not, so do many of my colleagues.
  11. It did, meaning that there are two Borrows well tanks there, as "The King" is also on site in the museum
  12. I keep the can of steam oil there so it is kept warm and flows more easily when needed
  13. The three Foden pics are at Aycliffe quarry, three miles from where I'm typing this. We nearly did a mock up of it 20 years ago at Beamish using a Foden wagon boiler and some chaldron wheels. The Foden then got sold and is now back as a lovely 5 tonner now I'm pleased to say. A fabulous looking machine, now where's my Mamod steam wagon...?
  14. Yes,that one looks like Roly Williams' one, using Hornby Rocket bits too. The ones in BRM were weathered and the Wilesco in particular looked ace
  15. A few years ago BRM ran an article on a garden railway where the sole steam power were converted Mamod & Wilesco traction engines to locomotives, sometime in the mid 90s I recall. I thought it was great.
  16. I should have kept quiet on commenting. However, there was a huge amount filmed, I had an hour and a half interview with no stone left unturned. Not up to me to edit it, and the historical consultant Dr David Turner knows his onions. Still better than some of the other Scotsman programmes I'd say. Back to industrials, narrow gauge, miniature railways and road steam for me; this is too much like being at work (my fault for looking, I know...)
  17. There may also be some Fowler ones at The Museum of English Rural Life at Reading University
  18. I always liked the Marshall at Pepper's lime works, Amberley. Smart little machine, whilst the Fowler works loco was a beast. My all time favourite must be Aveling 9449, as it was Grandad's old engine
  19. I thought it was one of the better programmes on 4472. Mrs C watched it, not just because I was in it... Being a 2 parter, they didn't have to try and cram everything into an hour, and that 7 1/4" B1 was lovely. Do bear in mind the producers aren't aiming for "us"
  20. Yes, that's well worth getting too - the Hutchinson book being the definitive though and the two go well together. Ok, I'll reduce to £15
  21. I have a spare copy of "Traction Engine Locomotives" by Ian K Hutchinson floating around for £20 posted if anyone wants it.
  22. It was one four wheeler, the Steam Power Trust had it to go with 385, which would suggest it's Danish. It could always have gone back to Denmark, that's a possibility.
  23. Join us - lots of pics and a number of modellers in our number! We've 009, 5.5mm and 16mm scale folks in our number and drawings and photos galore. Also find the Middleton Press book "Sierra Leone Narrow Gauge" and my small booklet "Sierra Leone Railway Adventure". Lots of information amongst the Friends members and we go out there too from time to time, really great inspiration. https://www.sierraleonerailwaymuseum.com/
  24. It's Danish or Norwegian to accompany the Danish tank 385, but I can't find it on the carriage or wagon databases at present
