  1. Good morning It’s not as sunny as of late, but it’s still warm. Compost has now been added to the new border and the whole thing looks a lot better now. I’m currently sat in the kitchen with a muggertea awaiting the postman to deliver a package for Sheila, or Sheila’s return from her Zumba class, I’m not sure which will be first. But it looks like I won’t get to the workshop until after dinner. Back later.

  3. Good evening everyone This morning all went as well as I hoped it would, I was all done for just before 11 o'clock and I was packed up and all tools etc put away and sat in the kitchen having a muggertea before 11:30. Just as I was packing up, it started to rain, so I’ll put in the compost tomorrow, it will give the mortar a chance to set anyway. This afternoon we have Ava, Evie and Max round for tea, so it was a bit hectic again after dinner. They’ve been entertained by the robins, once again building a nest not far from the kitchen window, but they can also be seen from the dining room french windows too! The evening was rounded off with a bottle of chilled rosé. Goodnight all
  4. Put a large “Scaffolding For Sale” sign, with the company phone No on it, on the scaffolding, take a photo and email/text it to the scaffoldings owners.

  6. Good morning everyone It’s a bit duller than of late but, according to the app on my phone it’s still 16C and due to get warmer. Breakfast has been consumed and so has the large muggertea and orange juice, so I’m off to the front to finish the border I stared on Monday, I’m hoping it will be done for the afternoon before it gets too warm. Back later
  7. Good evening everyone It’s been a fairly hectic day one way or another. Once Sheila had finished getting ready we set off to pick up the girls, then it was off to the Trafford Centre. As predicted we did go in Hotel Chocolat, where we just happened to buy some chocolate. However, they both also wanted to go in Waterstones, as there are both avid readers, so that was the last port of call as it was very close to the exit, closest to where the car was parked. As we got there early I was able to park in the underground area in the shade, it made it a little more comfortable in the car for our journey home. Once home it was time for dinner, which is always pancakes and maple syrup. For some strange reason I always end up with too many, which means that I end up eating them the following day, such a shame, he he! In the afternoon they sat and watched a DVD before having a quick look and smell of the flowers in the garden. Once I’d taken them home it was time for a nice muggertea and a spot of eyelid inspection. Goodnight all
  8. Good morning everyone It’s a bit duller here today, but according to my phone app, it’s currently 16C already! Breakfast has been consumed and I’m just waiting for Sheila to get ready then it’s off to pick up Ava and Evie then it’s on to the Trafford Centre. No doubt the girls will have a list of shops they want to go to, one will definitely be Hotel Chocolat, mind you, I don’t mind that one myself. Back later.
  9. Good evening everyone Well it’s been another scorcher here today, with a very slight breeze but not a cloud in the sky. A fair bit of progress has been made on the new border, I’ve removed a small section of the block paving and replaced it with some Victorian edging tiles. These tiles were salvaged from the front garden and stored behind the shed, when we the drive put in about 12 years ago. So far I’ve fitted 11 of the 16 tiles required, but it got far too hot to work after dinner so I packed up and will continue later in the week. Once it’s done I’ll top up the soil with a half bag of compost that I’ve got lurking somewhere in the shed. I’m hoping that this will improve the soil and therefore the box too! I won’t get any more work done until at least Wednesday, as tomorrow we have Ava and Evie with us. They should have been with us on Saturday, but we had to postpone it due to my puncture. According to the app on my phone, it’s still 19C here at the moment, I think it’s going to be an uncomfortable night. Goodnight all.

  11. Good evening everyone I forgot to mention earlier, that I earned myself a couple of brownie points by ordering and paying for a scarf that Sheila had got her eyes on. She showed me which one she wanted and I just did the rest. Well I made good use of today’s sunshine, once I’d gathered up all that I needed to make a start on putting in a small border in front of the box hedging I decided to cut the grass. This small task took me nicely to dinner time. After dinner I took some tools to the front and removed the small weeds that were starting to grow in the block paving and gave the front a general tidy up, picking up litter and leaves that had blown in and putting it in the appropriate recycling bin. Once all that was done I gave all the potted plants in the back a good watering. I called it a day at that point, as was getting very warm and once I’d come back inside, got changed and had a wash, it was time for a muggertea, this was swiftly followed by a bit of eyelid inspection. Just as I was making tea, I noticed that it had started to rain, this is typical as I’d earlier cleaned the brass front door furniture. But thankfully it lasted only a few minutes. However later, around 8:30 we had a very heavy downpour which lasted for around 30 minutes, there was also some thunder and lightening too! Mal. I’d like to take your daughters bf and leave him in the middle of nowhere, without transport, money, phone etc and see how he likes it. I could think of a lot worse, but I’d probably get locked up for it. Goodnight all

  13. When ever I’ve seen a shop assistant called ‘Pat’ who is wearing a badge on her blouse with her name on, however tempting it is, I’ve always resisted the temptation to comply with her request!
  14. On the subject of PAT testing. I was went out with a girl called Pat, she tested me a quite few times! But I survived.

  16. Good afternoon It's a scorcher here today, beautiful sunshine and a warm breeze. After a brief lie-in this morning I've been a little busy, Sheila attempted to clean the window frame on the back bedroom yesterday whilst I was having my puncture looked at and found that she couldn't reach the top. Sensibly she decided to leave it (she would normally stand on a chair) for me to do today. So my first task (after a muggertea of course) was to clean the window frame. I then polished the brass door furniture on the front door before it gets too hot out there! After dinner I will make a start on putting in a small border in front of the box hedging at the front. I probably won't get much done today, but I will gather together all the tools and equipment that I will need for the job, ready for an early start tomorrow. Back later
  17. Good evening everyone It’s been a beautiful sunny day here today. I was up early(ish) for a Saturday and took the car to get the puncture sorted. Thankfully they were able to repair the tyre and it only cost £10.00, so really pleased with that. The only down side is it took over 90 minutes, despite getting there for when it opened (9:30) I was still second in the queue! By the time I got home it was almost time for dinner, so I didn’t bother getting changed into my scruffs. I did hang my wetsuit on the line to dry, something I couldn’t do yesterday, due to the rain. After dinner I spent a bit of time on the computer in the cellar, gathering info on a loco I recently got a kit of, only surfacing again when it was brew time. This evening we had Mike and Sarah round for tea, but I wasn’t cooking tonight, instead we had a takeaway from our favourite Indian place. We then spent a couple of hours chatting before they set off for home. Later in the week they are heading of to Wales for a few days to celebrate Sarah’s birthday. As neither of them drink wine, we waited until they’d gone home before we opened a bottle of Merlot, which went down very well. Like Mick, when I lived on my own in the mid 70’s, I used to hang up all my freshly washed laundry as soon as I got back to my flat. I never needed to do any ironing and I never looked untidy, well not untidy for a long haired teenager anyway! Goodnight all

  19. Good evening everyone Well it’s been a busy day here, woke up to rain this morning but at least it means I won’t have to water the garden today. My first task was a quick trip to the Trafford Centre to get a few bits and pieces, whilst I was there I had a call from one of my ex apprentices and we ended up chatting for about 10 minutes or so. Is was nice to catch up with her, as I haven’t spoken to her for almost a year now. On my way back home I called at the butchers to pick up the weekly meat rations and I also picked up a couple of pies which we had for dinner. On my way back from the butchers my tyre warning light came on and by mid afternoon my righthand rear wheel was flat, bu99er, I’ve not even done 2000 miles yet! It was still p!ss!ng it down, but once the rain eased off, I changed the wheel late this afternoon and found that there was a screw in the tread. Unfortunately by the time I’d finished, it was too late to take for repair, so it’ll now have to wait until tomorrow morning. Once I’d drunk my a muggertea, I made a start painting the walls around the door in the back bedroom. Managing to get 1 coat before dinner and a second afterwards. Once done everything was then packed away until next time! This evening we had James and Amelia round for tea, it was nice seeing them as they’ve been unable to come for about 2 weeks or so. I mostly wear jeans and a shirt, both long and short sleeves and some loud, some not. I usually only wear a tee shirt when I’m doing something mucky, like decorating or gardening. I’ve got a suit, but like some, it’s only worn for weddings, christenings and funerals. Andyram. Sometimes the wisdom of the young can be both remarkable and astute, I’m glad you were able to make it to the funeral. Geoff and Mrs. Congratulations on 50 years. Goodnight all
  20. See Me, Feel Me - The Who
  21. Evening everyone Well I managed to get the paint out of storage and I even managed to paint the ceiling before Sheila got back from her Zumba class, all I have to do is repaint the walls and it’s done, but that will have to wait until tomorrow. As we were both at the opticians in the afternoon, I made dinner, nothing fancy, just a sandwich, whilst Sheila was having a shower. But it did mean that it was on the table ready for her to eat as soon as she came downstairs. My eye test went ok, the change was so slight I don’t need new glasses. But unfortunately Sheila wasn’t so lucky, it turns out she has cataracts in both of her eyes and also has blipharitis too! So she has to go back in 6 months for another check up. If it gets worse in that shirt time, she will have to have surgery, something she’s not looking forward to that at all! This evening I was able to go open water swimming for the first time this year. So I handed my pass in, with what I thought had 5 swims remaining and was told that you have to use them all in the season that you bought them. Naturally I challenged this as I wasn’t told at the time that they had to be used in the season, nor does it say that on their website. The supervisor had a look on the website and she couldn’t find anything that stated that either! So she let me in tonight and has emailed her boss (and copied me in as well) to get clarification on the rest. So I’m now awaiting to here from the boss, I’ll be a bit miffed if they don’t honour them. That aside, I had a really good swim, managing to do 1k in about 30 minutes, which is the furthest I’ve swam (without a break) all year. Goodnight all
