  1. I don’t think the chemo I was on was a strong as most other chemo, in fact it was quite mild when compared to most, but chemo none the less. I also had 37 doses of targeted radiotherapy, once again I didn’t suffer any of the burning than can arise from such treatment. I was told to expect to give up swimming at some time or other, as the water treatment in the pool may make things worse. Luckily I was able to carry on, but it did make me very very tired!
  2. Good evening everyone After returning from the big orange DIY shed, I carried on in the garden, more grass has been removed, all that’s left now is a bit about the size of a large dining table. After dinner I spent about 40 minutes in the workshop adding a few more bits of coal to Max’s tender, as once yesterday’s efforts had dried, I noticed a few bare bits. After school we had Ava, Evie and Max round for tea and tonight’s menu was fish and chips, followed by vanilla ice cream and jam. We the. Had a surprise visit as Vickie and Ian came round to pick up the kids, which we weren’t expecting and ended up staying for a while. The evening was ended with a bottle of Doombar as we watched the last episode of the Bridge. Goodnight all.

  5. Good morning everyone Yet another beautiful sunny day here in the northwest. My first task is a visit to the big orange DIY shed to pick up a few comestibles before some vouchers run out. On this day 6 years ago I began what was to be a 2 year programme of chemo therapy, on the whole I think it must have worked because I’m still here. The side effects caused me to take up swimming and as a result I’m probably a lot fitter now than I was then, or have been for quite some time! Back later
  6. Brian, it will go a lot quicker than you think. Yesterday I saw my oncologist and got the results of my blood test a couple of weeks ago. Although my PSA has risen slightly, from 0.4 to 0.75, they are still very pleased and I’ll continue with 12 monthly check ups. Tomorrow marks the 6th anniversary of my very first chemo session, which lasted for 2 years. It started 1 dose every 3 weeks for the first 6 doses, then every 4 weeks after that until the 2 year cycle was up. By the end my veins were starting to protest, it being very difficult to find an entry point, despite swapping hands every time.
  7. Good evening everyone Yet another beautiful sunny day here in the northwest and once again I’ve spent the morning in the garden and the afternoon in the workshop. More work digging up the grass this morning and after dinner I re-assembled Max’s engine and gave it a test run. I then added a bit of coal to the tender. The coal I used for the tender was what I’ve found whilst working in the garden over the last few days. In total I’ve dug up enough to fill a large cup! This morning Sheila had a phone call from our GP’s surgery asking to rearrange her diabetic revue, as she’d been given a slot in the maternity clinic, that place has really gone down the nick since she left! Goodnight all.
  8. Good evening everyone This morning I was given a good set of results from my oncologist, although my PSA has risen slightly, it is still below 1, they are very pleased with this and so I will continue to have 12 monthly checks. Both Sheila and I are very pleased and relieved as it’s always a worry waiting for test results. As we are meeting up with friends on Thursday, I went swimming tonight instead and like last week I managed to do 4 laps, a total of 2.1k in just under 55 minutes. I’ve also just clocked up 2000 miles in the car, that’s about 1/10 of what I used to do when I worked. Goodnight all
  9. Good morning everyone Another sunny day here in the northwest, I’ve not smelt smoke for the last couple of days but apparently the fires aren’t diminishing just yet. According to reports on the radio this morning, some helicopter pilots have reportedly seen fires being deliberately set, f€<{|#g morons! If I had my way I’d round the bu99ers up, stick them in the middle of a fire with a stick-beater and leave them there! Shortly off to get my blood test results, back later.

  11. Good evening everyone I didn’t log on last night, as I fell asleep whilst looking for car insurance quotes, my provider has increased the premium by around 25%, so I decided to look elsewhere, it’s riveting stuff, however, as I didn’t wake up until just before midnight, I promptly went straight to bed. Yesterday and today I’ve spent the morning in the garden and the afternoon in the workshop. So far in the garden this weekend I’ve removed about 20% of the grass, I won’t call it lawn as there were probably more weeds than grass. In total the grass has been reduced by about 75% of what there had been we first moved in here. But some gave way to a border, some went when I put the pond in and a bit more went when I got our first shed several years ago. Meanwhile, in the workshop, things have progressed significantly with Max’s engine. The cab interior has been painted and all the small detail parts have now been added. Today I’ve given it 1 coat of satin varnish, but I think I’ll give it a couple more. This evening I spent an hour on the phone to my brother in Canada, as is normally the case we just chat about everyday stuff, but it’s nice to catch up with him. Tomorrow I’ve an appointment with my oncologist to get my blood test results, I’m hoping that everything is fine. Goodnight all
  12. Good morning everyone A bit of a lie-in this morning, partly due to not sleeping well because of the heat, but I plan to spend the morning in the garden and the afternoon in the workshop. United Utilities have threatened a hosepipe ban here, starting on Monday if the use of water is not reduced. They all seem to be a bit quick in applying them, we only seem to have had about 2 weeks or so of really hot weather! Back later
  13. Good evening everyone Well it’s been another scorcher here in the northwest. We managed to get birthday cards for both Charlie who’s birthday is next Friday and James, who’s is at the end of July. We also got James’s birthday present, so Sheila is very pleased with what has been accomplished. Unfortunately, we were a lot longer at the Trafford Centre than we’d originally planned to be and as such, by the time we got to the butchers there were no pasties left. By the time we’d had dinner there didn’t seem much point in going to the workshop, so I read a couple of magazines instead. James and Amelia turned up for tea around 4:30, but after yesterday’s marathon in the kitchen where I had both ovens on, I decided that a quick tea was the order of the day, so we had pizza tonight. They went down very well, particularly with Amelia, who seems to have a very healthy appetite at the moment! Once they’d gone home we had a quick tidy up then opened a bottle of merlot which went down very well, at this rate I’ll have to be stocking the cellar up again soon. Goodnight all
  14. Good morning everyone It’s another scorcher here in the northwest, I was out earlier and I could smell smoke, I’m assuming it’s from the latest moorland fire that has started around Winter Hill near Bolton. The Northwest’s radio and TV transmitter mast is located on that hill and we can see that from our house. Not a lot planned for today, we will shortly be heading off to the Trafford Centre as WE need to get Charlie a birthday card as he will be 18 next Friday, where the hell did that time go? It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since he was born! On our way home we will call at the butchers and collect our weekly meat rations, I might even get myself a pastie! Ian. Enjoy your last day. Back later
  15. Good evening everyone No work was undertaken in the garden today, well only watering the plants in pots. Max’s engine is now almost complete, I’ve only got to add a few bits, such as some pipe work, whistle and the buffers and then it’s ready for varnishing. For tonight’s tea we had some of the soup I made this morning, served with some crusty bread mmmmmmmmm! Tonight I went swimming in Salford Quays and I managed 4 laps, 2.1k (1 1/4 Miles). I’m really pleased with that as of a couple of weeks ago, the most I’d managed was 1.9k. For some reason at about 7:30 I was one of about three people left swimming! I wonder where they went, mind you, given the score, I bet they wished they’d stayed in the water? Goodnight all.
