  1. Passed the remains of 43125 & 43128 on a low loader this evening on the M42. Looks like the HST cull has begun!

Saw them both, debranded, with six coaches as 5Z46 St Philips Marsh to Chaddesden Sidings on 6th June.

  2. The box of points Just Turned Up. Odd, very odd. I could have sworn it wasn't there before! The chuck-key fairy must be branching out....

I have a chuck key that I've lost the drill for

  3. Junk mail today included a reply paid envelope. Stuffed it to capacity with paper and card from the recycling bin and posted it off. Childish but VERY satisfying.

Great idea. I get an 'extended warranty' leaflet every month with a pre-paid envelope, this might persuade them to stop.

  4. Went out for dinner to celebrate my daughter's 10th birthday. Ended up spending 5 hours down A&E after my stepson decided to dive head first down a slide a knock several teeth out

Sorry to hear that, I hope he's feeling better soon.

    1. jamesg

      jamesg

Your rabbit may be owed thousands for mis-sold PPI!

  6. A baseboard for a new micro layout has been built. However I am banned from having more layouts so I can only work on it while she is at work. A new thread will apear in the pre-grouping section soon-ish

My micro layout is a 'scenic test track'. Looking forward to seeing a track plan.

  7. What would you do if you found a £20 note on the floor of your local newsagents ?

Someone left a £10 note in the supermarket self service machine the other day. I handed it in, the assistant said she know who had been using the machine, so hopefully it has been reunited with its owner.

  8. Ended up impulse purchasing a half-cab 1F despite it being the wrong region. Now to justify it... Damn you Bachmann!

Not far at all from the Midland Railway at Peterborough - it probably happened at some point. The 1F is a cracking model, anyway!

Some are bound to have travelled a bit, which region are you modelling?

I once reported to my (nameless) broadband provider that the line was working. They cut it off a week later.

  13. I have just taken delivery of my first ever 3D printed items: some GWR Dean bogies and some GWR 9ft American bogies. What would Swindon of a century ago make of this?!

  14. Wonder what the most marked up model railway materials are? plasticard, copperclad etc

  15. Hoping to photograph some trains on the Cross Country route - there's a lot going on today.

Two coats are just enough to keep out the gale force wind.

Four trains spotted, three to spot this afternoon.

It takes getting used to, but when you go back to leaded, that seems to melt too easily. You can still buy leaded solder easily.

  18. has fitted an LED to the firebox of a Hornby Terrier.

    1. jamesg

      jamesg

An LED and a resistor will just fit, soldered directly to the pickups at the back. The leads of the LED and resistor will go under the footplate, either side of the screw pillar. The effect isn't brilliant - it would be nice to use a decoder with a flicker function - but I'm happy proving that it can be done.

Ten of the fifty are preserved; that's impressive for a class last built in 1880.
