  1. I use Prismacolor pencils doing brick and for weathering. I use both the soft core and Verithin (hard leads). Not sure if Prismacolor is available in UK.
  2. But then are there any models that we really need? Or are all of them really more of what we want? Naw, they are all needed!

  4. Never thought much of wills, until I saw a family fight over the deceased's "stuff."
  5. Paul, No need to apologize, please post more. The black and white photo is stunning! Dave
  6. Fantastic view that low angle one is. Sorta reminds me of Tetley Mills. Awesome job Stubby!!
  7. Here's the story of my latest Hattons order. I placed my order online on 21 October. I selected Royal Mail (cheapest method other than surface mail). As I live in the U.S. the site states average transit time 5 days. On 23 October I received an email that my items had been picked and were placed in a box addressed to me. The box was on my doorstep today when I got home from work (1 November). That makes it 11 days from time ordered. Transit time 7 or 8 days. Considering most of the area (Rhode Island and other parts of New England) was without electricity Monday with half still out yesterday, I consider this pretty timely (remember 5 days is average). While I haven't kept track of the time taken on previous orders, in my mind less than two weeks across the Atlantic using the most inexpensive shipping method next to surface mail (I think the quote is 2 years average transit time lol) is ok by me. Hattons has done right by me since I first started playing with "British stuff" several years ago and hopefully they're back on track.
  8. And payment was only by check (I believe y'all spell that cheque(?)) or postal money order.
  9. My first mail order experience was "six to eight weeks for delivery." lol
  10. Paul, While I do love your scene in its entirely, I have to say that your figures simply blow me away. The painting of them is superb - I had to make sure you weren't making a 1/24 diorama. Perhaps a tutorial on your method? Dave
  11. What strikes my fancy is the perfect balance among all the parts of this. It all looks like a small portion of a much larger world that continues "just off stage." Looking forward to what's coming next!
  12. Well, kinda, yeah. Guys like you encourage guys like me to learn new things, expand my comfort zone and to feel OK, that I'm still learning. Kinda like a cake-mo layout?
  13. Perhaps a bit off topic, but when did the larger (55 gal) metal oil drums first become common in the UK? (BTW love the dented look!) Dave
  14. When he was about 8 or so years old my son had a martial arts instructor. We went to an out of town tournament and my son finished 5th of the 5 that entered. In fact, he didn't do well at all. He was quite bummed out. His instructor said, yes, "you were fifth at the tournament, but you were brave enough to go and compete in front of all those people" (he was quite new at the sport). "And", he said, "you did better than the hundreds who were too scared to try." I'm not sure wiser words were ever spoken. While I may not have remembered the correct wordage, the spirit of that pep talk has kept with me.
