  1. The railroad range. That Hornby's prices are often odd is no surprise. But if they do retire the old 4-wheeler, the new 4- and 6-wheelers will not be appearing in train sets.
  2. Train set. Not train pack. Two different markets, in Hornby's eyes.
  3. I think this is a topic that one can make fairly safe assumptions on.
  4. I have no idea why people keep saying this when it obviously isn't true. The new coaches will not be appearing in train sets and the like.
  5. It is worth remembering that there are other low-wage countries besides China, and I strongly suspect that in the coming years they will continue to benefit at China's expense. I could also make comments about how the idea that China has a comparative advantage to Western countries is in many ways a myth, but that is getting into political territory.
  6. Though even those weren't the 1923 originals.
  7. Coming back to this thread after Hornby's announcement, I'd say the answer in their eyes is "not at all except in size".
  8. I believe the NRM's opinion is that the rear two thirds of the frames at least are original, along with some other stuff that I can't remember quite now. And of course, there's probably a lot more on it that predates 1963...
  9. You have not substantiated anything. You have made a lot of insinuations but have not backed anything up.
  10. Depends on the figure. Wargaming scales tend to be fuzzy things.
  11. That, er, doesn't answer my question about why you feel "publishers have to be diligent" - your claim isn't just that they are diligent, but that they have to be.
  12. Do you have anything to back up the claim that online reviewers have less need than print reviewers to be "accurate, correct or reasonable"?
  13. Well - the point was not making any specific comments about how print reviews are or are not biased, but rather that they aren't inherently any more objective or unbiased than web reviews.
  14. Of course, the same can be said for print reviews...
  15. Will he substantiate his claims that there is little that would need to be altered for the ELR to become a commuter operation?
  16. Well you just admitted to the existence of a bunch of exemptions. Plus, of course, as you already mentioned there are things you can do at 25mph you can't do at the higher speeds necessary for a useful commuter service... Besides, not every rail regulation has safety as its purpose.
  17. Maybe. But Hornby should not be expecting US sales.
  18. A commuter rail station in Canada was recently renamed as part of a promotional deal after a college 11 km away from the station, which is certainly in the same spirit.
  19. It was confirmed long ago that those were quick 3d prints used as an example. No sales for TT in the US - even more obscure of a scale there than it is here.
  20. That would be an extraordinarly foolish plan if it was Heljan's actual plan. Producing a prototype which Hornby are not doing would be a much safer bet.
  21. You mistake "Hornby did not plan their TT range with other companies" with "other companies did not find out Hornby was making a TT range and decided to make their own products". If the former was false, Heljan would have made different choices in terms of prototypes.
  22. I doubt there was any sort of planning between Hornby and other companies when it comes to TT - if there was Heljan presumably wouldn't be producing a 31... But bear in mind they probably aren't aiming at Joe Public here - more probably the existing rail enthusiast community on social media.
  23. I imagine the preserved railways that are the best candidates for a return to the national network are those that are not struggling...
  24. You have completely misinterpreted my point. None of what you have said is a denial to the fact that running an effective commuter service would place the ELR under a great many exemptions it is currently exempt from. That heritage railways are required to follow many general safety regulations does not mean they are not exempted from many specific regulations.
  25. My impression from what I've heard is that this is not the case - heritage railways may be required to have the same attitude to safety as the main line, but when it comes to specific regulations there are all sorts of exemptions.
