This announcement has come as a a much welcome blessing (along with the diagram 1543 van) as I model the summer of 1947 SR at Padstow and the Bachmann 64' coaches would not really be correct.  The only thing missing from my (unpublished) wish list is an early full cab West Country.

Hi, i have been looking for more information on the Bulleid shortie coaches but can't seem to find out what i am looking for i am hoping you can help me as you are modelling a part of the North Cornwall Railway.

    • When did these coaches run to Padstow/ North Cornwall Railway and what services were they being used for?
    • Also you mention that these are more correct for Padstow than Bachmann 64 coaches can you briefly explain why?

    Thanks if you can help,

    Samuel.

What do we think the likelihood is of Hornby doing a Class 802 in GWR livery?

Just curious as I model Cornwall and currently have 800003 on pre-order. I would be tempted to cancel my pre-order of 800003 if Hornby were to announce a GWR class 802 as it is more prototypical to my region.

I cannot guarantee it as i don't work for Hornby but i wouldn't be surprised to see that they announce a Class 802 in the future as majority of it is similar to the Class 800. Also there will be more than one livery carried on the 802s when they are finished and introduced into service including GWR, Transpennine Express and Hull Trains.

Another thing is that 800003 was one of the first IETs to visit Cornwall in 2017 along with 800004 on the same day. Making 800003 the second to visit Penzance and the first IET to leave Cornwall.

  3. It would be nice if Bachmann annouce they would do another slight retool of the Class 150 to include a low level mechanism similar to what they are doing with other modern DMUs that they are making such as the Class 158.

What im hoping for from Bachmann in their 2019 range:

    Class 150/0 in GWR livery
Class 150/2 in FGW 'local lines' livery
Class 158 in FGW 'local lines' livery
Class 158/9 in GWR and FGW 'Local lines' livery
Class 57/6, 57604 in the updated GWR burnswick green special livery with the GWR logos on the cabs

I would love a GWR 150/0 but I don't think that Bachmann have the tooling available for the centre coach.

Also i would love the Local Lines Livery put on either/both of the Class 150 & 158 but hearing what i heard during a shop open day a couple of years ago is that it will be quite difficult to get the livery right. The problem with the livery is that the bodyside changes colours on the bodyside being darker on the bottom and lighter on the top and it is difficult to do correctly with current printing methods as there have been an attempt to get one produced by a commissionser back then.

  4. They worked coal into Drax and Ferrybridge Power Stations from the Yorkshire coal field and also limestone from Peak Forest to the same for the flue gas desulpurisation.

Yes, they were only blue for a couple of years before being sold to EWS but it’s a striking livery and they were very popular at the time. It was a very dynamic period with new operators, new fleets and new liveries coming into the network.

Thanks for the information i wasn't totally sure that i found correct information but now you have backed up what i discovered about the locomotive.

  5. I was speaking to Dave today at Warley, and he has said that there will be some news (at last) regarding the 92s coming out next Friday.

Fingers crossed this means that the project will now start seeing some very welcome progress at last!

Dave Jones has kept his word as indeed an email arrived yesterday about the said project.

Thank you BR(S) I had seen on his stand at Warley that he had news regarding the 92's coming next weekend, just wasn't sure if he'd kept customers updated via emails or something. Thank you for your help I look forward to hearing the news.

He seems to contact via Email and then after certain amount time via his Website aswell.

  6. From the Hatton's website....

That National Power class 59 does looks nice but wasn't it only in that condition for only a few years and also what kind of work did they perform for them?.

  7. Hi,

I have been looking at these wagons since they were announced and looking online to see if their was any consist of the DB MMA wagons with any other livery MMA/JNAs or put in with other wagons from the DB Cargo fleet in the same train and was wondering if anybody could help me find out if they did run with others or just used on their own as the research i have done seem to suggest that these wagons only run on their own type and wonder if anybody know differently. I know that other operator have mixed their wagons so i am just wondering on the DB ones only.

    Thanks if you can help,

    Samuel.

  8. I wasn't thinking about getting another deltic as i already got one but i may get the Purple Deltic as it is unusual and i don't know that there was such a livery put on one and also to support Accurascale with this project.

Also will this be the only batch to contain the purple deltic or could it be produced in the future after they have sold out from the first batch?

  9. I've had the email from Kernow too but it doesn't have the offer of 1500 Loyalty Points. I can see from my Kernow account that the order was placed in June 2010 (8 and half years ago!). Before I comtact them is there any other qulaifying criteria for the Loyalty Points credit that anyone is aware of?

The only criteria for the loyalty points is that you need to ask them to set up a loyalty account.

  10. I am hoping to catch some East Coast and East Midlands HSTs in May of next year and hopefully someone can help me in identifying a good station to spot these two operators HSTs from also it would be nice to catch some freight trains as well.

The journey would begin on Friday/Saturday either from:

    1. Bodmin Parkway
    2. Manchester Airport
    3. Gatwick Airport

and it will end in Birmingham on a Sunday.

    Thanks if you can help,

    Samuel.

  11. Posted elsewhere that Rail Operations Group are orderejng a fleet of 10 new build locos from Stadler with funding through Beacin Rail.

The class 93 will be a step up from the class 88 and feature a larger diesel PU (1800hp mooted), 25kv overhead AC and also battery power.

An interesting development and one that will be worth tracking I think

There is an mini interesting article in the November 2018 Railway Magazine which is related to the ROG group saying that they are launching 2 further companies which will see them dealing with freight, logisitcs and passenger services. I wonder if this is the reason for buying the new locomotives.

  12. I thought I just made that up to justify buying one.

When the P class locomotive was announced I looked online to see if i could buy one within certain criteria i use when buying locomotives to make sure i don't buy to many of them. In the resulting research i found out about the trail at Wadebridge.

Didn’t know a P was trialed at Wadebridge. But I know one was trialled at Lyme Regis to replace the adams radial tanks. But it spread the track and was sent on its merry way back home.

    Big James

I think it was trailled at Wadebridge first then went to Lyme Regis afterwards in the same year.

  13. I have a pair of N's but I think of them more as Southern than SECR. They were the dominant goods power on the ex-LSWR/North Cornwall line to Padstow. And I have a P Class as well. All of these loco's are in Bulleid Black with Sunshine SOUTHERN so I forget it originally was SECR. The fiction of the P Class in Padstow is that it was being tried out as a replacement for BWT's on the Wenford Clay turn. The C Class was somehow mistaken for a Black Motor and accidentally sent west and forgotten that that it was there once it was at Wadbridge sub shed.  I would have to consider an H as a possible substitute for my LSWR O2 or M7. And as for that Merchant Navy that somehow made it to Padstow over Meldon viaduct on the remainder of an ACE instead of a WC/BoB.......

There are reports that there was actually a trial in real life of a P Class locomotive at Wadebridge to see if they could replace the Beattie Well Tanks.

    Samuel.

  14. It's just unfortunate that this particular example of their 'own brand' of RTR models has had such problems, whereas other models like the 'P' and the Andrew Barclay are really very nice.

The 14xx may be Hatton's version but it was made via a third party (DJ MODELS) whereas the other models were made direct with the factory.

Hornby would make a killing on the 14xx if they threw away the centuries old tooling and chassis and paired it with an equally re-tooled (and better detailed) autocoach

I think i seen it in a Hornby Collectors Club magazine that Hornby were going to do a brand new 14xx model but pulled out when Hattons announced theirs.

    Samuel.

  15. Pullman livery - yes - but certainly not Northern Belle.

I have corrected it on my post but i think the main reason people get confused between the two of them is because they are so similar being in pullman livery.

Caledonian Class 86/87- well I had left that due to the poor sales of the TTS Class 67, which is still lingering.  Plus a few years back, Hornby did on their website do a poll for a Class 92 in Cal Sleeper, but obviously there was little interest, hence it never happened.  Must admit, after seeing the MK3's in the livery, I don't find the sleepers hard to resist.

One thing I did miss, and it was really shoody of me, with my user name, was the humble Class 153 - FGW Local Lines anyone? Come on Hornby, someone else did it with a 143, go for the 153!  And with Great Western Liveries being popular - how about a Heart of Wessex or St. Ives Belle....

Perhaps we may also see an RAF Class 156?

    • I think the reason the class 67 is lingering is because it has TTS Sound in a main range model and i suppose not much stock out there that you can use with it. Perhaps the reason that nobody wanted a Class 92 in the sleeper livery is because DJM accounced a brand new tooling with the same livery.

    • The FGW Local Lines would be very welcome if they could do it seeing that they have managed to do a difficult livery on a Class 800.

    • They produced a few Class 156 in RAF livery for presentation/gift when the real one was revealed.

Why would Hornby produce a livery that lasted for just over 3 months? Surely, if you wanted more limited editions to match Paddington Bear, you would go for one of the named GWR 800/0s.

Of course, more likely shall be a main range LNER livery!

I think that it lasted for 10 months.

Has there been a livery confirmed by LNER for the IEP?

    Samuel.

  16. Bachmann on the other hand are generally pretty fast with new liveries - I think a Freightliner Powerhaul 66 was announced almost at the same time the prototype appeared, and we didn't have to wait long for DB liveried 66s, 37s etc.

I find that Bachmann announce new liveries quicker although they take longer to come out but saying that sometimes Bachmann have been slow with some liveries such as original Europhoneix on 37884 and WCRC with white lettering on 47245.

    Samuel.

  17. Hi....with all the doom and gloom..just a cheeky look forward to think what models may be up Hornby's Sleeve for 2019, or things that perhaps would make many modellers happy....

    Personally from a modern perspective....

HST - Scotrail perhaps (inc Coaches)...., First Great Westerns 43002/43185 as a pack would be welcomed by many. The Scotrail HST is doable but the coaches would be wrong beacuse Hornby don't do the new sliding door Mk3s and as far as i know there won't be any slam door mk3s with the new branding.

Class 56 - DCR Grey 56312, and a Colas variant?

Class 08 - DRS version with TTS or possibly an Neville Hill EMT version....

Class 60 - DB Schenker, TTG Construction and another Colas

Class 50 - 50019 Ramillies in Laira Blue, 50049 in Large Logo (Current Mainline condition)

Class 67 - The second of the Colas models would be very nice - perhaps in a pack with a couple of Network Rail Yellow Mk2's?  A Northern Belle Pair? I am not sure that Hornby would produce the second colas one because it was planned to be first but it has been changed to the other one on request from the company.

Class 87 - A DRS or GBRf variant, plus 87012 in NSE/Back the bid

    A Seacow in Transrail Red/Grey

    KFA's with rubbish containers

    Regards,

    C.

I have added some of my personal comments to your post using blue text also this is the modern ones i reckon we may see:

HSTs: The Scotrail HSTs and 43002/43185 plus some other special ones such as 43163 Plymouth Livery, Bulding a Greater West Countryside 43144 Livery and 43093 Old Oak Common versions as limited editions. Other liveries they may produce is a rerun of the CrossCountry version and also the Ex GC now East Midlands power cars new livery.

Class 08: As they have been doing different GWR Shunters perhaps they may do the Penzance shunter No: 08410.

Class 50: I reckon they may prehaps produce a Black roof Large Logo version also they may do 50031 Hood with its Intercity Scheme.

Class 60: There could be another Colas one or a GBRF one.

Class 67: I reckon there could be a British Pullman one and potentially 67028 in New DB logo with branding.

Class 87: Class 87002 Royal Sovereign in Caledonian Sleeper Livery and another blue version.

Class 800: 800005 First British Built IEP with the special vinyl as a limited edition.

Also I think that Hornby may announce the Class 802.

    Samuel.
