    New Hornby Rocket

In case useful, on the traction issue I've experimented with using bullfrog snog (rubber traction tyre substitute) to help improve its pulling power. (I tried running it in before I went down this route but sadly it still couldn't cope with my mild gradients) Doing both wheels was unsuccessful, the remaining wheels weren't picking up enough current, especially over points. So I tried peeling the bullfrog snot off one of the driving wheels, and surprisingly it seems to have done the job. A tiny bit jerky in places but this was largely resolved by just cleaning the track where this occurred. In case relevant, it's the right hand wheel with the rubber on it. It's now pottering around my layout with 4 coaches at a nice and slow prototypical speed...
  2. Looking resplendent in its GCR livery 🤤
  3. Thanks very much for this kind advice! It was indeed the weight that was the issue. I'll try and get some new weights as I think it needs it to keep the wheels on the track and this the connection constant. But at least it runs freely now.
  4. Hi folks, I'm trying to get an old Lima Crab working again and, though the motor in the tender is working great, I can't get the (unpowered) driving wheels to move freely. I've lubricated in all the right places, and they move freely rolling on my hand. Should I try and add some weight to it? My other Lima Crab has a similar issue, but only occasionally. Any thoughts?
  5. This looks great! Where did you purchase your chains from?
  6. Fair enough Brian. Keeping my fingers crossed that Bachmann will make No.1 at some point off the back of the rest of their LT range. But the 150 anniversary was probably the optimum time to have brought it out and unlike their Pannier, Prairie and Class 20 would require new tooling Thanks again, David
  7. Many thanks for running the poll. Sorry to be annoying but wondered if you'd consider adding Metropolitan/ Underground trains as a category next time, including Metropolitan No. 1. Perhaps this was one of the locos that got so few votes it was eliminated but would be great to see it included here. Thank you!
  8. Sorry if this has already been covered, but are any of you replacing the couplings with closer couplings or chains? Like a few on here my rake is fairly fixed and permanently on my layout so thinking about changing them... Many thanks
  9. Do the replacement footboards work on 2nd radius curves? Just wondering whether to swap them over...
  10. Wow. Worth the wait. Absolutely magnificent. As @Legend and others have said the livery application is superb, really precise. Quality control is great, especially compared to a certain other manufacturer. Well done Hattons.
  11. I got an email from Hattons to say my LNWR coaches were now in my trunk, and now apparently despatched!
  12. At Warley I was chatting to the folks from the Vale of Rheidol Railway and they said that Model Rail in conjunction with Revolution are developing GWR Rheidol Tanks in OO9, due out sometime next year (if I heard them right). Pretty excited by the prospect of that...
  13. FYI I asked Hattons at Warley re the LNWR coaches and they said they think they are now in the country so after they've received and checked they should be with us soon, next 3 weeks hopefully.
  14. Did anyone at Warley ask KR when the finished locos were expected? I was there but forgot to ask. Still on course for summer next year?
  15. January is the latest, FYI (asked at stall at Warley)
  16. Rob your layout looks great! How did you do the reeds and bulrushes?
  17. was quickly googling 'BR cinema coach' and came across this interesting info on a Southern version of one; http://edgson.net/MARCModels/Images/History of Cinema Coach & Gene Van.pdf "In 1939 the then Southern Railway built on a converted underframe a Cinema Coach for staff training purposes which had a seating capacity of 60 people sitting 4 to a bench across the body with entrances through double doors which were on either side at the end of the coach." Here is more on the LNWR one - https://www.brc-stockbook.co.uk/lnwr_no112.htm
  18. That is disappointing, but in the current circumstances, understandable. Q3 2023 it is... 😅
  19. Very sorry to hear that, did they say why they could t fulfill your preorder?
  20. I agree, will keep my fingers crossed. If they do make these tweaks, fantastic, if not, it'll still be great to have it in these liveries because it saves me repainting Skarloey.
  21. just a bit of fun re their pop up advert on this site...
  22. Was just about to share this too, seems a reasonable price, looking forward to it!
  23. Does anyone know the correct way to oil the Bo-Bo? It's running well just gently sweating in places. The axles seem to be the pickups so reluctant to put it there. Do I need to take the body off? (sincerely hope not !) Unfortunately the instructions are in the box buried in the loft (yes, what a plonker). So grateful if anyone could share any tips!
  24. Thanks very much for these kind suggestions, will give it some thought. Since I have that woodland scenics pen I may as well use it till it runs out then switch to acrylic. I like the suggestion of using an airbrush but I don't have access to one unfortunately.
