  1. Oh awesome! I remember him mentioning a Brighton Dept. wagon that was in the pipeline
  2. oh yes couplings drooping and the hooks coming off really easily, I've lost loads of hooks! Alas, Dapol seem to be the only company that produce a good amount of Southern region wagons either themselves or through commissions, I think my layout must be almost 70% Simply Southern wagons :') Ash seems to have gone quiet on the modelling market lately, which is a shame.
  3. Thanks again that original C has developed a squeak, I'm not entirely sure which bit of the mechanism is causing it but I kinda like it, I've heard real life steam engines make similar noises I still get problems with Dapol wagons but it's totally random, that South & Glasson wagon at the front of the inner circuit goods train, for example, it bounces off on one bit of track but only on every like, 5th circuit of the layout or so, sometimes I think they're alive and there is some truth in Thomas the Tank engine 'troublesome trucks' ....
  4. Thanks I'd like to say there's a lot of skill involved but my technique is dipping a paint brush into weathering powder and slapping it on! The sooty effect does work well on black locos, I haven't tried doing anything to the green E4, yet... Also here's a link to a short clip of the two Cs https://twitter.com/GreenGiraffe22/status/791276181148536833 I've tried embedding Twitter videos into forum posts but this forum doesn't seem to be compatible with Twitter's coding...
  5. Huzzah! did it Lots of weathering on rolling stock still needs to be done but I've gotta be in the mood for it... My poor Q1 still remains without the side rod screw it needs, I have emailed Hornby but I've heard what their "customer care" can be like... I will also get around to repainting that terrier so the number and lettering is in the right place, unless I manage to find a limited edition sunshine one Dapol released once upon a time... made the photos 1000 x 750, it's put them waaay under the max size
  6. So my second C Class arrived today, it looks so brand new and shiny next to my weathered one, that'll soon change! I also got a digital camera from my parents which I've taken some nice up to date photos on, however half of the photos (mostly the better ones) are over 1mb so I'll have to work out how to make them smaller... Anyway here are some that are under 1mb, a bit more scenery has been added. I've decided this layout is really just a test bed that I'm trying to make look as real as possible... plans are underway to remove the turntable.
  7. Thank you looking forward to running the two C's together, in addition to the incoming E4 no. 2517 and later the H & H2 it's going to start looking much more South Easterly
  8. Twas my birthday yesterday, just treated myself to Bachmann's newer C Class 1294 from Rails of Sheffield as it is still on sale there for £84
  9. I noticed the observation carriage very obviously placed in the photo at the top of the Engine Shed article, another hint?
  10. "The Wealdon Rambler" set with or without a Bluebell loco next year then?
  11. I've got an Airfix Sherman all ready to be loaded on to one Looking forward to being able to get some more military goods trains up and running on my wartime layout
  12. Hattons Favorited my Tweet about it so perhaps it'll be a consideration Seems silly that there isn't one in wartime livery as that is what they were originally built for, but I suppose it falls in to the same argument as pre-grouping liveries and what is and isn't popular in the market.
  13. I was quite disappointed that between all the old Dapol / Hornby ones, and all the new ones that have been made this year, not one is in original wartime livery...
  14. Now that the Warflats have been announced, could an Austerity in 1943 livery be on the cards?
  15. That is very welcome news Edit: now can we have a 1943 version of the Hunslet Austerity to shunt them please?
  16. I don't really care whether 422 or 10 of a class of shunter were built, as long as it is appropriate for the Brighton - Eastbourne pre nationalisation region/era I shall be happy
  17. Looking forward to these, my layout is early 40s
  18. Hello all, long time since a last update I know, but there's not really been anything to say, other things have been going on I mainly just need to get more scenery, I am ever the self critic and am still not completely happy with the track layout but in such a limited space it is difficult. I might see if I can find the circular piece of wood that was cut out to fit the turntable because I never use it and it is taking up a lot of unnecessary space. I also need a couple of new points as some have started to play up, I think on future layout I am going to have as fewer points as possible because they're just too much hassle. Anyway. I took a video today of my 700 and C Class operating on goods trains, my C Class has become very very squeaky haha. https://twitter.com/GreenGiraffe22/status/783672331675832321 (probably best viewed on a mobile device) I am just eagerly awaiting some 2017 releases now, anyone got any idea when the new Southern E4 is due? I heard it was due in August but now we're in October and it is still at Pre Order status... One more thing, I need a new screw for one of my Q1's side rods, is it worth contacting Hornby or can I buy the right sort of screw in somewhere like Homebase? Anyway, I think that is all for now
  19. If this loco turns out to be the start of more pre grouping liveried locos, I may well start a second LBSC /SECR themed layout, I've always wanted to, but I'm not so great at kit building, I mean I used to build airfix model planes all the time, but they're pretty easy, getting a kit loco built and painted to a standard I'm happy with is probably beyond my skills, especially when it comes to fitting a motor, I wouldn't have a clue.
  20. Could someone please tell me why traction tyres are disliked? If they improve a locos performance what is the issue? They're hardly noticeable? To my eyes anyway...
  21. If I chose to model the Southern Railway of my era there'd be nothing running, Hornby could release a 'Southern on Stike' set with no power car. Anyway, can't wait to add the H to my East Sussex layout
  22. I took one pair of wheels out of the troublesome bogie, they were pretty well wedged in there and removing them caused at least two bits of plastic to break off... Ooops.
  23. Agreeing with the comments about age and era, I'm 24 and have not much interest in railways post 1947...
  24. See, my M7 only just manages 2 Maunsells, any more and it slips on curves, I hope Hornby's H will at least be able to manage Bachmann's three Birdcage.
