  1. I think I've come to the decision not to have one (for now). I was looking forward to them when they were first announced, but I didn't really know much about them, now I know what I know, one wouldn't really have a place at all on my layout, and it helps me control my spending being strict with myself on region and era. Doesn't mean I shan't own one in the future ;]
  2. loving the look of those SR ones, especially with the E4! Waiting patiently for mine from Hattons
  3. thanks for the information My layout is mainly set in 1943 East Sussex, but I still enjoy running my Pullmans and occasionally The Flying Scotsman & Mallard make a visit - just for fun, so it isn't *always* entirely historically accurate. I found this picture of the Lancing Belle which I assume I think is from the early 60s and this guy has a few photos of the carriages around Lancing Works https://www.flickr.com/photos/31890193@N08/with/14213500115/
  4. I noticed that of the SR lot Hornby are releasing only 2626 (paired with 6406 to form set 375) appears on this coach set list from semonline http://www.semgonline.com/coach/CoachSets.txt unless the 2626 on that list is another type of coach all together in which case this post is completely irrelevant if it IS the same coach then surely Hornby would have been better off producing 6406 instead of 6404...? Apologies if this has already been covered I've ordered the eight compartment brake third 6404 & six compartment brake composite 2639 following advice on here that those two types would have been paired together?
  5. Also today I decided to look into what carriage I actually have , and it seems that by pure coincidence I have half of one set and half of another I have 3786 and 1218 from set 244, and 3723 & 7411 from set 209 , so now i'm on the hunt for the 4 carriages I need to complete the sets!
  6. Just stuck no. 2517 on preorder, does anyone know when it is due for release?
  7. Title really says it all really, I was reading about the Lancing Belle today and thought it might be fun to recreate a 1930s version with Bachmann's E4s, but I was wondering if anyone knew what carriages made it up? There are some photos of it in BR days but I can't find any earlier photos of it. In any case I think I'd have to make a slightly shorter version as a 9-carriage train will probably take up 3/4 of my circuit haha
  8. I got inspired today by this photo of the Lancing Belle, I'd quite like to recreate with with Bachmann's SR E4s, although I'm not sure a 9 carriage train will fit on my circuit, maybe just, but there won't be much railway between the back and the front haha, a shortened version perhaps. Are those all Maunsells or several different types of carriages? I can't find any info or pictures of it in SR days
  9. Hey all, been a while since I brought you an update, the track is all in place and up and running. I still find myself being frustrated at being confined to such a small space, but it's only temporary. Thought I'd share a few photos. I think Bachmann's new C Class & E4 are next on the shopping list I'm one of those people who will wait patiently for a bargain, I'm in no rush to grab new releases, having said that, I have 2 of Hornby's new SR carriages on pre-order, their region is a bit far west for me but I don't really care I have however decided to focus my collection more on ex - LBSC/SECR & South Eastern stock for future, it rules out some purchases I was planning but it helps control the spending and bring more realism to the layout There is still lots to be done scenery wise, the staiton is slowly all being put back together, any gravel / grass you can see is left over from before, I did scrape a lot of it up but there is still plenty lingering, as well as areas I kept as they were. Anyway, here are some up to date photos! and a link to a short video on Twitter of the E4 & 700 running https://twitter.com/GreenGiraffe22/status/755102806411972609 Still need to re-paint and put the Southern wording and lettering in the right place on the E2, it is on the to do list along with the Terrier Let me know what you think, I welcome ideas for region & era appropriate things to run / have as scenics
  10. I'm still tempted to get a sunshine one and just pretend they worked in the South East during the war
  11. Well I do have a short tendered T9 so I guess that can stay, My M7 has Eastbourne headcodes on it, and asiee from uploading photos on this forum, no train experts are going to be viewing the layout so meh ! The 700 I have is nearly always on military duties so that's the excuse for that, the "war effort" and all. But my layout isn't that big, so when I add Bachmanns new C Class , E4 and future Brighton Atlantic, as well as Hornby's future Merchant Navy (And if / when someone decides to produce an H) to join my existing E4, C Class, Q1 & Schools, I'll have plenty to run the layout without the need for my LSWR engines.
  12. There are several ex-LSWR engines running on my (roughly) Brighton-Eastbourne region layout, but that's mainly due to the availability of RTR early 40s era SR engines. As more ex LBSCR & SECR engines become available I may retire and possibly sell on the LSWR ones as I have less interest in them than more Easterly based engines. An H would be most welcome
  13. Two more wagons arrived today from Simply Southern, one is their new Isfield Brewery wagon, I was shown a photo of the real thing so it is a genuine livery! The other is one of their old Dark Star wagons they were able to source for me, I wanted it because my Great Grandfather worked for Dark Star and my Grandfather is always asking me if I have a Dark Star wagon, so now I do! Anyone for a beer? My yard layout is pretty much finalised now, just need to wire up the yard controller and hope it all works, but there are so many points it is potentially fraught with problems, I'll let you know! I'm going to have to wire up a 4th controller to that siding the T9 is on as I can not get power from the loop to go to it at all. Here's some links to a couple of videos on Twitter, the first of my M7 pulling the "beer train" and the other is the 700 & C class both on goods trains, it seems Twitter lets me upload videos longer than 30 seconds now, but in return it destroys the quality. https://twitter.com/GreenGiraffe22/status/748139348953030656 https://twitter.com/GreenGiraffe22/status/748142229068316672
  14. It would fit my layout perfectly as I have a lot of wartime goods being shifted about
  15. Ohhh those photos are tempting me to hit the order button, I *Could* sneak £122 out off the mortgage deposit fund...
  16. All the tracks in the main 2 loops pinned down and working well I think I'm going to have to wire that siding up to a separate controller because the electricity will just not flow to it, but will flow into the yard, which is curious. Anyway here is a link to a video on my Twitter https://twitter.com/GreenGiraffe22/status/747442398658191360 just need to sort out what to do with the yard layout now.
  17. Good evening all, my layout is slowly starting to take shape, I've got a photo or two for you, ignore the yard area and all the mess, I haven't fully decided on the layout for it yet, but the main loops are all sorted, tested & working! The only trouble I am having at the moment, is that siding that comes off to the left by the level crossing, as soon as the points are set for it it cuts off all the power to the circuit, I assume it is something to do with the electricity flow as I've tried several points just to rule that out dodgy points and they're all doing it. Could it be that that siding just needs to be wired up separately?
  18. Far too modern for me but looks like it will be an excellent model
  19. So it is, however after spending a fortune on my partner's 21st last week, I am on spending hiatus for a while. Looking at the amount of previous released S15s that have ended up in sales, I can't imagine it is going to sell out any time soon?
  20. I am so very tempted to order the one in Sunshine livery, I was really looking forward to having one, but then I found out they were only used on the Lyme Regis line (I had no idea until recently that there were only 2 of them, excluding the EKR one, I was wondering why Hornby & Oxford Rail were using the same running numbers haha). But I suppose I could have it as "what if" on my South East layout, yes I am trying to remain relatively historically accurate, but aside from trains buffs like you and me, who's gonna know, aye?
  21. It's cool, I think I had a misaligned rail, think I've got it sorted. I've set the outside loop up with 3... let's call them 'storage lines' so I can have 3 trains made up ready to traverse the loop. There's quite a space between two of those storage lines, thinking I'll either add a siding or perhaps some carriage cleaning platforms? Perhaps even a tank loading ramp, I'll think of something. I'm probably not going to bother connecting the outside loop to the inside, every single time I've attempted it in the past it has been a disaster and I don't fancy putting myself through the stress . Once It's all finished, I should be able to have 5, maybe 6 trains made up at any one time that can pass through the three station platforms. Looking forward to adding a couple of Hornby rebuilt 58' s to my passenger rolling stock. I know they're really from the wrong side of the SR network, but I won't tell if you don't!
  22. Well I've sorted out my station area, moving it to the other side has allowed for 2 long platforms that can comfortably hold three carriage trains. It's been tested and pinned down, the only derailments I get are if locos travel through the points too quickly, but on this quiet country railway with lots of military goods passing through, there is no need for speed.
  23. After lots of advice from many of you I have managed to start tackling the derailment issues and have ordered some new Peco points, I think I'm gonna have to get me some quite a few little straights too to fill some gaps.
  24. I've got the 8 & 6 compartment brakes on pre-order now =D I really like the look of them, they'll go well with my M7.
