Chassis fabricated from 1mm plasticard sheet and 2.4mm Plastruct angle section. I’m using Bachmann Bulleid bogies in place of the MTK offerings. Cheers Darius

Looking good - and the windows line up on each side - unlike MTK. Cheers Darius -

Made a start this morning. First step was to correct the somewhat haphazard coach body side profile. This was done by clamping the side against the face of a steel rule in a vice - working in stages along the length of the coach. Re-profiled coach body on the left in the photo below. MTK provides brass coach ends that have to be folded to the correct profile. The buffer beam has pre-formed buffer holes, which, being MTK, are too far apart. I snapped off and discarded the brass buffer beams. These will be scratch built in plastic with the correct buffer spacing. The brass ends were soldered to the coach body and filed and sanded flush with the sides. Filler was added to the gaps between the tops and the coach roof. This was my first time soldering brass coach sides/ends. The outside looks much neater than the inside… Cheers Darius

The layout has now been dismantled in preparation for my friend’s (and shed owner) house move in March. A brand new shed is to be erected at the new house and the layout will be reinstalled in the new shed. Dismantling was undertaken with minimal damage to the “scenic” part of the layout. The new shed will allow us to iron out the bugs that were popping up with the original layout concept. Watch this space… Cheers Darius

Driver and YouTuber Steve Alvarez Brown painted a worrying picture of what could become the new normal in 2026. He tweeted: “The VISA Cash App RB overtakes the Mastercard Mobil 1 McLaren driven by Oscar Peroni Piastri. “Meanwhile it’s Max Heineken Verstappen taking the win at the Aramco-Coca Cola London Grand Prix, his 12th win of the season on street circuits. “Alex AWS Albon crashes at the Amazon Prime Parabolica in his Bet365 Casio-Powertrains Williams during the Louis Vuitton Italian GP. This triggers the Monster Energy red flag and the second Deliveroo safety car of the race.” If that happens I’ll have more free weekend time, having given up watching F1. Darius

The model box was wrapped in bubble wrap and snugly fitted into a stout cardboard outer box. Arrived safely with no damage apart from a dislodged funnel that was easily popped back into place. Cheers Darius

Thread started especially for MJI 😜 Opened the box to find this is a 4-GRI rather than a 4-COR. The heavy gauge brass coach bodies will need some “bashing” to get the correct bodyside profile. I plan to make new coach ends and possibly cabs from plasticard. I will replace the MTK bogies with spare Bachmann and Hornby bogies. All back in the box for now… Cheers Darius

Give me a chance. Despite what people might think, I do eat, sleep and occasionally work between building railway models. I also first have to build a couple of buildings for BRM. Cheers Darius PS - just ordered some etched Maunsell grab rails from Roxey Mouldings.

4-COR it will be - quite fancy this livery. Cheers Darius

I never noticed that before but, looking at the research pictures I have, there it is. Brass sheet and wire should do the job… Cheers Darius
