  1. Chassis painted and reunited with body. Now need to build the second MBS to the same level of completion. Cheers Darius
  2. Face on and undergibbons built and fitted. Cheers Darius
  3. Buffer beam and step boards fitted. Cheers Darius
  4. Hi Mike, It’s square section trussing so looks the same the other way round. Cheers Darius Edit - I sanded the outside facing surface of the MTK trusses to smooth off the moulding roughness so it may look like angle section in some light conditions. Rest assured it is box section.
  5. Chassis constructed in the usual way with the exception of the MTK trusses which were fitted. There are no cast metal undergibbon parts in this kit so I will use spares from the 4-GRI kit and scratch build the rest. Cheers Darius
  6. Doors widened. Was able to carefully remove, modify and reinstall the original plasticard doors 😀 Cheers Darius
  7. Dave, Thats fantastic - thanks so much. 5’10” scales to 23.4mm in OO and the MTK door is 19mm wide… So some surgery will be required. Fortunately it’s easily done at this stage and I have plenty of plasticard to hand 😀 Cheers Darius
  8. Hi Andy, I was copying the Hornby 2-HAL end before Dave posted his superb set of pictures. Easy enough to remove the steps 😀 Cheers Darius
  9. Checking the MTK body against the Hornby HAL it’s a few mm shorter. This means it won’t fit onto the spare Hornby chassis that I had earmarked for this kit. Not to worry as I’ll make my own chassis as before. Fortunately I still have sufficient spare bogies to hand. The other advantage to making my own chassis (apart from the fit) is that, unlike the Stores Units, the Hornby ones have continuous step boards. They would need to be removed, which is not that simple as the Hornby motorised chassis is cast Mazak including the step boards. Cheers Darius
  10. Standing on the platform at Northolt Tube Station in the early 1970s and seeing a Hymek go past on the adjacent BR lines. I knew it was a Hymek because it matched the picture in my Magpie Pocket Book of Trains. Cheers Darius
  11. Cab roof attached and fettled to shape. Non-cab end made from plasticard and glued in place. Cheers Darius
  12. Hi Ian, I’ve already built the MTK 2-HAL de-icing unit - see the first post in this thread. Cheers Darius
  13. Incorrect flush sliding doors cut from brass bodyshell and openings cleaned up. New recessed doors made from plasticard and glued in place. Softly moulded jumper cable/socket/pipe details removed from white metal cab front and the front sanded smooth. The details will be restored using plasticard brass rod and electrical wire. White metal doors and cab front attached to body. The MTK cast cab roof will need to be fettled to fit. O joy!!! Cheers Darius
  14. Hi Dave, Yes please. There are only a few that I can find on the web and the are not close up shots. I was wondering whether the interior had been stripped of the compartments and seating and what form the large door was - I see it’s a sliding door panel. Cheers Darius
  15. Alas it won’t be the 4DD - a peruse of 74009’s thread on building that kit will tell you why… I have decided to take it easy a tad and build the 2-HAL Stores unit. Cheers Darius
  16. For the next MTK project I thought I would take things relatively easy and build the 2-HAL Stores Unit kit using some spare Hornby 2-BIL/HAL underframes to make things easier. The parts for the non-cab ends are missing from the kit so I will need to scratch build those from plasticard. Having already built the MTK 2-HAL De-icer unit this one should be relatively straightforward. The large roller doors are quite recessed on the prototype so the MTK “flush” ones will need to be cut out and replaced. Cheers Darius
  17. Because it so good, like New York, NY. Cheers Darius
  18. MTK Class 404 4-GRI EMU Cheers Darius
  19. I do have a few in the stash… Cheers Darius
  20. Well, you see, it’s like this. I’ve got this portrait in the attic… Cheers Darius
  21. Thanks John - agreed they are a bit chunky. All I had to hand were some spare Hornby handrail/knob sets that I found on eBay a few years ago. The knobs as fitted are plastic so they can be sliced off and replaced with finer ones in future. Cheers Darius
