  1. Sorry but I never see what the "I know something you don't" brings to any conversation. Plus, I would have thought most people don't really care that much. I would also suggest it belongs in a different thread. Sorry for the neg.
  2. I think new bogies (with NEM pockets) may be the way. The problem is that if I body mount, it's too high. I'd rather use the Kadees I have rather than buy yet more of them, that means kadee #146. If I bogie mount, it's okay but it's only the end of the pocket that I can glue (not sure if a screw will be possible) to the coach body. I can't push it back any more because of a black bar on bogie, so the gap will be quite large by the looks of it. If I turn the bogie round, means I have to hack off a small bit on the top that fits into a little groove on the underside of the body. Basically, I've ruined a bogie trying this out. And people wonder why people don't "model" like this anymore...
  3. Hello Have some older Hornby stock. Want to change the D coupling to a Kadee. Could be straight forward but the coupling is moulded as part of the bogie so I can't screw it off and replace. I'm trawling through the info on this but most posts seem to refer to those D couplings that can be screwed off. The aim is purely ease of uncoupling. Not particularly fussed about close coupling.
  4. So in order to not reverse the polarity, is this as simple as making sure it's the same way on the track all the time? How do I know if the current position isn't the wrong way?
  5. I think these answers have been over engineered... The LED works fine when I put the loco on the track. It's working. No where have I said it doesn't. I never had the power/motor car. Always just the dummy. The bulb turned on when I put it on the track. No control over it. It always buzzed, even with the old bulb. If I rocked it, the bulb would light up brighter or dimmer - I guess because more/less contact with the track had been made through the wheels.
  6. It's the oldest lima tooling and a dummy car, so no motor, no DCC. No running at all. Just a static model that I want the tail lights lit all the time. Because I run a DCC layout, the lights are on instantly when I put it on the track. I read it was better to change the bulb for an LED (less current draw, brighter?). I'm not sure what's so different as I tested the LED by simply holding one prong to one track and the other prong (with a resistor pre-wired) to the other track and it lit up. It was fine. I tested three I have ore-wired with resistors the same way. I can't see how a diode fits into this. I'm sure I could switch the LED either way before and it didn't blow. The aim is to have the dummy power car lot with tail lights on all the time whenever it's on the track. It'll just be in a siding.
  7. Oh! I just connected the LED any old way. It lit up. The power car buzzed before, I thought this was just the bulb. It's not very loud at all. I have it set up: Front pick up - LED - 1k resistor - diode - rear pick up. Sorry, my electrical knowledge is very poor - not sure what reverse voltages are.
  8. I have a dummy (power car) HST from the Lima days. Have just replaced the bulb for an LED (no real need to as I never really use it). On the rear end [of the power car] there's one of those black with a silver ring things (can't remember the name!) a diode. Is it required now I've changed the light to an LED? Makes a slight buzzing noise.
  9. Possibly. But it's just a shame they'd rather refund me than take the sound out and put it in a non-sound model (unless they've completely run out of all non-sound EWS models?). No qualified staff to do it. Have said I'm happy to leave it with them. If it means I get a chance of owning one, happy to wait.
  10. Hmm. No go on my 66. Choose another model or refund (although this wasn't offered). I really only want older EWS as I've invested in 10 EWS HTAs for it to pull and for me that's what I see when I see a 66. I may have been swayed by Freightliner but then I'll still be stuck with the HTAs and I know some Freightliner ones had a problem that can't be fixed with the lights. Disappointing.
  11. I guess the speed of replacement locos is different depending on many factors. Sound fitted? Heard they more or less ran out of pre-fitted ones. Popular livery? Means they will either refund or replace with a different one. Mine was sent back on Tuesday (I think). No word on it's replacement as yet but I'm patient.
  12. Thanks everyone Although I see many of these don't have containers - do the manufacturers supply them also?
  13. A bit disappointed. Never used fabric conditioner before as I always thought: 1) it took away from the scent of the washing liquid 2) It eventually ruins clothes 3) Extra expense However... as part of a Bounty pack, I got vouchers for money off some. Bought it for new baby clothes (although I sort of think using non-bio and fabric conditioner may discourage the skin from toughening up). It's pretty nice. Now I have to stop in the fabric conditioner aisle and smell them all to decide which I like the best and buy a load. At least they're not that expensive.
  14. Morning, morning.. in a bit of mourning as it's turned cold and wet outside. Hooray for rain - not so much for cold. Got a call yesterday from new work. They need me to sign a form to allow current employer to release medical notes as new employer can't do a proper medical. Apparently they're doing them over the phone However, it's now no more than 5 weeks if old employer makes me work full notice period. Also turns out I have some unexpected Annual Leave next week! It was moved as baby was early but someone forgot to cancel it on the old week. Garden railway has stalled. I don't have any power in the garden but there is a potential to buy a cheap DCC controller and use extension cables perhaps. It's how I get droppers all along the track. But what a learning curve! So far at work today I've watched the film Lucy and now the Repair Shop - really inspiring that show 4 hours left.
  15. I don't really know what I'm looking for, the words to use or who manufactures them but I'm looking at wagons what carry the large sea containers. Most seem to say "maersk" on the containers. I see Bachmann have some but they seem pretty expensive. I would have thought they'd be easy to find / in supply but it seems not. Am I just searching for "container wagon" or "internodal" or are there any other keywords I should be using?
  16. Morning all. It's as bright as it's going to get today - no clouds! Day off tomorrow, not much planned. Probably sorting through baby clothes. He's 2 months old and already grown out of the first set of clothes we had! Growing fast. Still secretly thinking about an outdoor railway. We have a long 23m garden so plenty of space to let the locos stretch their legs. Put that together with 4 lots of decking boards that are sitting doing nothing... it's calling out for something!
  17. Makes you wonder how these companies sort what goes on what van!
  18. To be fair, I did think after I posted initially that perhaps the first push of couplings may have left you a little worn out. I think it was a case of Easter falling on a time when I am primed ready to buy this and that - don't ask about the amount of ebay deliveries I have on the way! Cheers for your work
  19. Do you have Android? There's an inbuilt "Search" function that allows your phone to "listen" to what music is being played. It used to be just okay, but I tried it the other day and even with talking over the music, it managed to find what music was playing. There's also a variety of websites - even youtube comments!
  20. Afternoon all! What a mixed day. Looks great outside, but it's still a little chilly. A bit sad as I'm stuck waiting - I feel like I'm wasting the weeks going by. Waiting for my Class 66 to be fixed or refunded. Waiting for Hunt Couplings to get back to me about their lights. Waiting for Bachmann to announce more liveries to their Class 158 (come on CT green!). Waiting for another company to announce a livery of a unit they produce. Waiting for new job stuff... And slightly more sad is that we finally finished Downton Abbey last night. While some may have not liked the end (it was happy for everyone), what a feel good TV Series. I hate it when they carry it on and spoil the last few series (looking at Heroes, Lost...). Still, at least I managed to bag a Click and Collect spot for Asda on Sunday.
  21. I did think this but something makes me think it's just a bit of thick grease. My railway room is like a loft, so can get chilly at ~10°C going up to high teens in the summer. It's been a pretty stable early teens this past few weeks though. It's only ever done this if I haven't ran it for a day or so. As soon as it pushes past, it doesn't struggle again during that running session, nor a few hours later. Sound isn't affected. This is what makes me think it's a grease issue but I would guess it isn't really. I should have tested more before I packaged it up again but it's gone now. Just hoping Hatton's can sort me out a replacement. If they're sold out of sound ones, I can see them offering another livery or refund rather than taking the sound stuff out of that loco and putting it in another.
  22. That's really subjective though. As I said... for me, these are great. My layout isn't for shunting and I don't need to couple / uncouple wagons or coaches. For my fixed rake of MK3 coaches, they are a game changer compared with the more expensive Kadees. I don't give a monkeys about close coupling (yet). Your wants seem to be close coupling and shunting. This product isn't aimed at you. For my wants, this is exactly the product I could do with. Try emailing, Facebook Messaging, YouTube commenting... no responses. Reminds me of a now defunct model manufacturer - good products but clearly a victim to their own success.
  23. I've NEVER seen a courier work as a 2-man team. The only people that I have are the likes of Argos/Currys/DFS (et al) delivery people. My local Royal Mail, DPD, Amazon, Hermes - all work alone. I have continued to order whatever I want/need. Ironic that it did include a new BBQ set (for a brick built one)! I should think by now, lots of people ordering online has steadied. Still busy, but not particularly increasing by leaps and bounds it has.
  24. Morning all! Today marks the first day of no gardening. As temperatures are dipping a little, it means the grass can grow properly. Re-seeded some parts, over seeded elsewhere and fed. So happy to go out for walks rather than garden. Just need to keep an eye on the veg in the greenhouse - excited my Broccoli is growing! And should have Brussel Sprouts in time for Christmas! It also marks the day I've told the Station Manager about the new job. Still not quite ready to share it here (until the transfer is taking place) but hopefully now it's one step closer!
