  1. The answers to the first question are commercially confidential. The answer to the second question is that it's not unreasonable for a business to seek to make a profit from any activities otherwise there's not much point in doing it and I'd rather they did too as there wouldn't be much point in employing me. I've already said I'm fed up of duplicate topics where people can't be bothered to look what's already underway; it's disrespectful to me and the other users that have already covered the points. If they wish to make the point this topic was the place to do it (even though many posts are just repetition so they probably haven't bothered to read posts already made). In light of the first points addressed above I'm not exactly enamoured by someone piping up to promote avoidance of making the site viable so, yes, your post was removed and if you carry on I'll just remove your access; simple. I don't know what you do for a living but you wouldn't be happy if I turned up and started doing things which meant it would harm your employer or telling your customers how to avoid paying for whatever you do. Have a bit of common sense.
  2. Do we need attention-seeking hyperbole? Surely we've moved from such jibes in this day and age?
  3. Again I need to pass this to @SteveCole as I don't have access to that system.
  4. The free trial gives access to the mags but not the RMweb elements due to there being two separate systems.
  5. I have now had to unhide this topic twice. Please do not hide a topic that other users are replying to.
  6. Rollers are vulgar, if it's a new car I'll go for a Bentley but would settle for a genuine GT40 but I can't fit much gear in that. And can I have a dormant volcanic island please; fewer people.
  7. A note for the complainant - Monsieur Titfield does contribute, as do Accurascale and Revolution specifically as well as some other advertisers which is recognised and respected at this end of the soggy string.
  8. At present there are peculiarities I can't rationalise in the distribution of rates. Last year and through the early spread of Delta the cities and major urban areas were generally the hotspots. At present it's the reverse with rural and smaller towns that are the hotspots. This is the picture at present: Major Midland and North conurbations have overall lower rates. It was more pronounced a couple of weeks ago. We readily attributed reasons to urban spread through density and travel. This time it seems harder to explain. Is it, as with Wales, that spread came where there were a lower number of previous cases and it's just a wave that equalises the overall?
  9. Although this point is a repetition of some previous ones (and therefore possibly unnecessary) I have given it further thought. We could have a low Silver Contributor rate for ad-free access to those who provide levels of useful content or input and then a higher Silver Consumer rate for those who don't to the same degree. I'd have to manually assess what rate would be appropriate for each user (I'm sure they would disagree with my assessment); as an exercise I've looked at your Topics and Posts and would regard you as a Consumer. I think we'll just keep it simple.
  10. We don't use Proboards; this software is of a different and higher spec. You're so massively out there and it wouldn't even cover the usage levels we had 11+ years ago. Our needs are beyond what they include within the corporate price band on Invision software (and those prices are currently being increased). There's a lot of adaptation too which wouldn't fit with that so it requires self-hosting plus significant amounts for image storage. Therefore, your points about cross-subsidy or getting the trade to pay for your free usage are irrelevant so it's not helpful to read wild bright ideas when the reality is far different. Conveniently you isolate the costs of moderation but there is also technical management; who was up overnight twice last week working to get things back on track so that service could be restored asap? The same bloke who always ends up sorting out user issues at weekends and when I'm on holiday. Phil moderates too and our IT department carry out certain functions but there's a lot that sits at this desk and nowhere else.
  11. That's now done thanks to another member flagging the post up; I don't get to see everything.
  12. You wouldn't see the posts for ads in this topic!
  13. Of course a lot of content is of value. However, there's a lot that adds nothing and, often, it's those that add least moan most whereas many who give everyone value grumble least. It's just the nature of people as a whole.
  14. Have a read through the last week's posts.
  15. It's the same thing Andy, it's a placeholder before the ad is delivered (or not). What's bugging me is some people functioning in broadcast only mode that want people to spend time reading their post when they haven't read the posts by others. There's even a banner at the top of every page (until it's closed) which explains the test.
  16. It's going up to £100 from 15th October to allow Londoners to buy a round.
  17. I'm getting irritated with people who can't use the existing topic and start off yet another to rant. You've not paid anyone the courtesy of reading explanations so you're not going to get much sympathy from me; I'll save that for those who discuss it rationally.
  18. Sure; I can normally distinguish which are which and, in the majority, those that do have positive content are less likely than *some* to grumble. Anyway, I've just seen some data on the performance on the video and pop-up ads and it's pertinent for me to say that they will remain (with some tweaking perhaps) but I am keen for us to provide a suitable alternative as soon as we can for those who wish to be ad-free.
  19. It does. No ads = no revenue. Some don't care that they're not contributing anything (if I knew where they lived I'd stare in their windows to watch telly so I didn't have to pay my licence) but there are some who could need to block them for performance or functionality*. * But they're rarely ones that proudly proclaim they're blocking them.

  21. To my knowledge the ads aren't hiding the search box or the subforum index.
