    TT120: HST

My hst set is on the way and the coaches are been picked, so fingers crossed should have the set by Monday, train pack by Friday .
  2. i've been thinking that for some time, go for it and let me know if it starts smoking! on a serious note, i thought the prodigy did not use xpressNet?
  3. You are correct, I changed the addresses to lower numbers and it’s all working, I do need to look at how I can upgrade the firmware though. in terms of the dongle, it’s a brilliant bit of kit and is a game changer for me for controlling locomotives, only down side is still having to have a DCC system to amend non hm7000 decoders
  4. that would explain allot then, although i did try resetting to 3, will give it another go tonight.
  5. i received my dongle yesterday and on the first setup worked wonderfully with my select. I added it to App, added a new loco (set to default 3 address), added the loco to the dongle decoder (that's how its presented) and i controlled the loco, happy days. now the issues start, I first re-programmed the decoder to a 4 number address (using my gaugemaster dcc controller), i changed the loco address in the engine shed to match, put the loco on the track and nothing happened. my first assumption was the select only uses 2 digit address's, so i reset the decoder address to 70 via the select. Changed the loco address in the engine shed, the loco still would not respond. at this point i powered off everything, disconnected the dongle, re-started the select and tried to just control the loco via the select, the loco would not respond, put the loco on my gaugemaster system and it worked. i tried this with a couple of loco's and got the same outcome, i'm now really confused as to why 1: the dongle now appears not to be working 2: why the select no longer seems able to control the loco's I can see the select does something when i reset the decoder address as the lights flash on the loco.
  6. hopefully they have not been pushed down fully, the 37/55 are the same and they don't look that bad on my models. now you have drawn my eye to them, i can't help but notice it every time i look at the pics
  7. i think the problem is and i came unstuck with it on the 37 and manor, nowhere does it say you need our proprietary chip to run x,y,z. what you would call run of the mill light functions do not work unless said chip is used. Someone higher up in the thread said we asked for all this functionality, did we, i don't think so. I get the need to push boundaries and if that requires proprietary chips then state it, problem solved, the buyer then makes their choices, you do run the into a closed system though, you have to use our chips, oh and you can only buy them direct, that does not sit well with me, pushes the direct selling which allot of Hornby bashers moan about on here.
  8. we get your point since you have splashed it across a couple of Hornby threads now, you don't think much of RailRoad Plus. Have you looked at some of the diesels in that range, the plus really does make a huge difference?
  9. that does look very nice, would be a rule 1 purchase
  10. the tankers are back in stock (i had set a notification for when back in stock but got none), just happen to be browsing. I've never had a bad experience with ordering on the Hornby site, nor there customer services, almost always straight through to someone. I also use clearpay (AS also use it so set an account up some time ago) or paypal
  11. I’d checked rails yesterday, admittedly I only looked under the tt section, did not search for product codes. I’ll take another look
  12. Given the number of retailers now selling tt stuff, surprised not see them listed else where, not even pre-order.
  13. 100%, perfect balance, does not need a fancy stay alive etc, no need for fans or raising pantographs, the livery finish is good, it’s a good runner, enough detail to look high end, except the inconsistent running (which I need to sort out with my local shop) I think it’s the best value loco I’ve ever bought.
  14. valid points, have to say my A4 is superb. every single AS loco to date has had issues, whether its electronics, sound, motor detail falling off, general running, they are not immune to QC issues so lets not pretend otherwise (is stay live needed on such a big loco with so many pickups?), difference is they are currently the golden child of the industry. anyway getting of topic to Hornby specific here.
  15. and that's the point. You have just rattled off 3 brand new product ranges, all require significant R&D/Resource. Very easy to pluck off high volume (in terms of sales) prototypes that are in the hundreds, liveries galore, spanning decades of mainline use, looking at what your competitors have done with the same product and improve upon it, great business mind and to be applauded for what it is, but please don't put it in the same ball park as what Hornby do. Hornby is out there all on it's own, trying to bridge every gap, for everyone. They do not get enough recognition for what they do. Hornby got me into the hobby decades ago, then got back into it 10 years ago. Sad thing is with the new boys plugging off the headline prototypes i do spend more money with them now than Hornby.......actually i take that back, TT:120 and HM7000 i have spent big on, along with a couple of Loco's. Does this show maybe Hornby are going in the right direction? Maybe?
  16. really, they have produced some really great stuff in the 3 years or so, maybe more. W1 peckets turbomotive P2 2MT other various shunters re-tooled 43 (i get some have issues with but its big improvement hm7000 - it is now maturing into a well rounded range lots of carriages recently tooled from southern to coronation to mk3's pre-grouping stuff, generally well received. TT:120 newer ATP some of the new scenery stuff like trees are good value (i have a couple) i'm sure their is allot more i've not mentioned some one asked if doing entry stuff is still relevant, many on this forum hark on about getting the younger generation involved, and with this using pocket money or money from grandparents (certainly something high stuff is just too expensive to fund). Also mentioned, do Hornby need to do this, only Hornby know what generates the revenue, high stuff or budget stuff. All i would say is who will step in and do it if Hornby don't, maybe they feel they have due to historic thinking.
  17. this is really useful info, my mine has been very inconstant, putting on glass shows exactly the same issue, now do i take it back or try to fix it.
  18. i think you have hit the nail on the head.....i really don't understand the Hornby bashing, they do something no other manufacture does (Bachmann to a much lesser degree). I've said so many times, come on new boys lets see how you get on providing a full model railway product range, from high end models to proper budget stuff, sound, digital command, all the track work, all the scenery (including scatter etc), buildings, you name it they do it. That's a huge under taking, just think of the management needed behind it to out put all that, let alone the design work (even re-livery's require an element of design, sign off etc), and then be expected to delivery new stuff in all that every year, across all budgets, how the hell do you decide what to do for the best. You are bound to drop the ball on some of it. It's allot easier to produce a handful of high end products (your internal project delivery, skill sets etc are all baselined) and be lorded for it. I don't know the new boys make great products but when you can focus your researchers, designers, PM activities on a handful of stuff makes life allot easier. As for Hattons, forums are full of people who write stuff to suit their agenda at that point of time, short memories and glass houses spring to mind, oh and hypocrite.
  19. i was on my phone, maybe i misread it, would make sense 🙈
  20. Class 81, is that model in the Hornby range, did not think so, is that a loco in need of a refresh, pointing to something down the line?
  21. View Advert Hornby Dublo R30266 Sir Nigel Gresley The is was bought by me for someone but it’s unwanted Christmas present (I’m now past the point of been able to return it). Never ran, as new number 252 out of 510. I’m not asking stupid money for it given it’s sold out everywhere, just want my money back with little bit extra (I’m sure If I kept hold of it for a month or so it would go for silly money). Price is for collection but I can post via RM SP at the buyers expense. Advertiser jonnyuk Date 06/01/24 Price £345 Category OO / 4mm scale
  22. gentle wiggle the buffers off (they are not clued just push fit), 4 screws and the body just slides off, again give it wiggle. I picked one up on Wednesday, was torn between southern green and grey/blue (the colour looks somewhere in between). i went with grey but i have to say i'm wishing i went with green, abit more bold on the layout, grey gets lost. Nothing against the model which is great, well made, fab runner (so smooth), great detail, good weight. only thing i would say and its the same for most of the Kernow stuff, plastic buffers, i really wish they where metal, i'd rather metal and not sprung. I'll try and get some pics today

  25. Mine arrived today, only bought two as I wanted to see them first before buying more. One has warped walkways, the other is fine. have to say I’m not bothered, if did not read this thread I would not of gone looking nor spotted it. they are by far the best wagons I have, superior to AS stuff I have, these really need to get more recognition, but alas is does not have AS on the box.
