When chatting with the staff in the library, they mentioned the possibility of an Inter-Library loan. They would do that for 2 quid, which *definitely* sounds like a bargain to me...

One of the hurdles I had to overcome was a lack of knowledge of the real thing. The Mike King book was the obvious resource, but the prices asked on the internet were unrealistic. The other day, I popped into my local library and casually enquired, you don’t have this book by any chance do you? Why yes, not in this branch but we can get it here in a couple of days if you pay a fee of a pound. Bargain! Why didn’t I think of it before... Big hurrah for Cambridgeshire Libraries...

I've just snapped up a part built Stenning E4 on Ebay (apologies if it was you I outbid..) and am now in need of a set of instructions for it, at the very least so I can find out whether all the bits are there!! Having searched, I know that some people here have assembled one, so hopefully someone might have a spare set.. Any offer gratefully received.. thanks..

Fear not, John, all is fair in love and Ebay! I particularly would like to get hold of a Weald/Stenning instruction leaflet, as I say, to check all the parts are present. There was some possibility of that not being the case from the wording of the listing. I know there are others on here who have assembled the kit, so I am hoping that one or other of them might spot my request and come up trumps...

After a bit of a hiatus due to Christmas and New year, plus a couple of trips that took me away from the workbench, I’m back in the swing of it now. After my degree of success with a Jidenco kit, ever the glutton for punishment, I’ve enbarked on another project from the same source. Through the generosity of another RMWeb member, I became the owner of these part built Gate Stock pair.. Already painted in LSWR livery (as it happens, incorrect for the ‘4 window’ drivers end which came later) the first thing to do was to strip the paint to see what I was dealing with.. My new favourite, now Nitromors isn’t the product it used to be, is Biostrip. That and a bit of fine wire wool soon did the trick...

Not wishing to sound 'negative' to this kind offer, but the entire Motorsport run, back to the beginning, is now available on a single CD. I know of a number of people who have tried to get rid of their collection but, since the availibility of the CD, there has been zero interest.. It would be nice if you could find a home for them, but I think it a little unlikely... :o(

I have the Russell book, which I have been using up to now, but I'm happy to say that, through the kindness of another RM member, I am getting a copy of a drawing that hopefully, will give me the information and ideas I need to move on...

I just need to enquire from the assembled minds as to where I might be able to get a good drawing of the loco, to aid me in my endeavours. I will open up a thread on the rebuild (bash?) of the Triang model in a more appropriate sub-forum but for the time being, I am trying to mount the body on a T9 chassis and I'm getting fouling of the driving wheels on the splashers. Looks like I am going to have to remake the splashers but, before I do, a close study of what I'm aiming at might not go amiss... Thanks and any suggestions gratefully recieved...

If it is of interest to anyone, I have a Branchlines R1 chassis surplus to requirements. I bought it, rather hastily, in error, and it cost me £29. Happy to pass it on for £20 plus something for p&p? Drop me a PM if interested.. Now re-homed...

Thank you all for the additional information. @Nick Holliday suggests them to be a somewhat unloved loco but, for some odd reason, I've always been attracted to them - even to the extent of undertaking the revision to the elderly Triang model when running it on my (in progress) layout would even be stretching Rule 1. I wasn't aware of the new book, so that is one to track down (thank you @Tony Teague) and Locomotives Illustrated 78 is now on my list as well. I do have Steam Days of June 1997 which has a decent enough article and illustrations of the class and Back Track February 2017 also has a short article. As far as photos from my chosen era are concerned (early to mid 30s), they are indeed few and far between, but I am under the impression that few changes were made during their life time, (stands back and waits to be corrected!) so photos from later on will still supply appropriate detail...

I feel a little sheepish that of all the photos of L1s I have looked at, I never twigged the pipe was always on the lhs and, for whatever reason assumed (never assume) they would be a pair. And thanks for the confirmation of the Steam reverser. I am about to revive a stalled upgrade of an old Triang model and now am better informed of two more elements...

Funny this thread should pop up, I've just restarted a similar upgrade on a project that stalled about a year ago.. Encouraging to see what can be done with the old L1. I've always been a little surprised that Hornby have never taken the opportunity to do a 'China' job on it...

I wonder whether someone could just help me on a point of detail on the attached photo(s). Am I right in thinking that the component ahead of the front driving wheel is a Steam reverser, not a Westinghouse pump? My apologies for the lack of knowledge. Similarly, looking at pictures of various locomotives, there seems to be differences between them in that some have Steam pipes from the smokebox and some don't. For such a small class, (to me) that seems a strange variation. Does any one have any thoughts on that? thanks in advance for any help... Hugh

I asked at the Kernow stand at the Stevenage show yesterday if there was a more up to date release date for these and was given a shake of the head and a rather terse 'No'. When I pressed a little, I just got the same response. I think I was more disappointed by the style of response than the lack of any date...

I know this really is a long shot, but does anyone have a copy of this book they would be prepared to sell at a reasonable price. Foolishly, I missed one at a reasonable £15 recently and the next cheapest I can find is £55, a price I really cannot justify. Perhaps someone knows of a copy in their local library that I could request? Many thanks for any offers or any other suggestions...

I'm not sure where the OP gave up, but his concentration level has waned somewhat. I think it fair to say, that for his interests, Peco 75 and a DOGA Intermediate B2B will probably suffice... Though I will freely admit that other people may wish to delve deeper into the esoterics.. Hugh
