  1. Out of curiosity more than anything I had a look at the Hattons website early this evening, and took another look later on... I can tell you exactly where all that stock has gone. Well, not exactly of course, but I have a very good idea that it has been sold today...
  2. Well I never! Best of wishes to all those who are connected to the company for the future.
  3. Sorry I meant to write the south and west side of Sheffield, from where you pretty much have to go past Sheffield station on your way towards Doncaster. It is often more than twenty minutes drive just into Sheffield from that side of town, let alone trying to get to Doncaster ....
  4. This is obviously the first I have heard of this. Having read about it now, the first thought that came to mind was that it is really intended to be for the people of North Nottinghamshire (or maybe The Bassetlaw Express to be posh) with the Worksop-Sheffield portion of the journey tacked onto the end for some reason ;). Nobody from Sheffield would ever prefer to drive to Doncaster than to Sheffield station, so that rules most of my fellow citizens out. Nobody sane would want to leave anything of value at or around Woodhouse station, let alone a car, unless they are going to have armed guards or something. It may just be me, but gaining access to the ECML at Retford could be interesting. It is not unknown to be able to get a unit rather stuck on the curve there, admittedly that was a pacer and it was a very hot day, but still, it happened.
  5. Something very like C&L flexitrack sleepers would be the thing, the thicker ones being more appropriately dimensioned for redundant sleepers with chairs still attached.
  6. That is the path to Coombe, from the level crossing. I guess that it has been there for rather a long time.
  7. Not the best picture ever, as you can see, it was more than a bit damp that day. Worth adding though mainly because it was taken at Pontefract Baghill, which must have had somewhere near the least frequent services of any station in the country.
  8. Talking of bridge rail. A fence post at a location somewhere in the south west ;)
  9. Another one of a train less Coombe Junction. Taken from the Moorswater end, a less usual angle, and with the mid June Cornish liquid sunshine in evidence!
  10. Not the best picture quality ever, but it is not that often you see a bit of wrong line shunting and a Voyager together at Par station. I cannot recall any details but looking at the light and the greenery I guess it was late evening in summer.
  11. A rather well known spot, a view of Coombe Junction taken a few years ago, with the usual amount of trains to be seen.
  12. Meanwhile, over on the Up line, there is one of these.
  13. An afternoon Down London HST arrives, stands, and the departs for points west, at Bodmin Parkway
  14. Dragging a Class 91 and Mk IV coaches at Leeds, circa 2012.
  15. This one looks like it was at Manchester Pic to me. Is that the old Centro or Silverlink livery?
  16. Northern 158 902 at Sheffield in about 2013. This must be one of the ex WYPTE liveried ones.
  17. Just found this one on an old card, so for testing purposes a bit of what is now historical imagery.
  18. Having been in one at somewhere around 90, I think Smasher would be a better name ;)
  19. So, if it was top loaded ( and I have no doubt it could well have been) how did they prevent the milk from foaming in the tank? Also, unless there was an airtight seal between the hose and filler cap there would also be access to the milk for whatever airborne "things" happened to be floating about in the atmosphere. Judging by the amount of fresh liquid on the platform in the Rowsley picture it looks like they may be in the process of cleaning out those tanks.
  20. I have always been in the it looks better camp, and it also conveys the meaning and scans better as you read it. One assumes ( always a bad thing to do that!) that it is a portmanteau of Railway Modelling website, which, of course, is exactly what it is. If the w was capitalised then it would read more as R M W eb and not really make sense ;)
  21. My bold. I think that that is the sound of a nail being hit rather firmly on the head there (a pretty appropriate use of the phrase there ; ) ) While I am not the greatest fan of MDF, it certainly is nowhere near as bad as some of the posts in this thread would have you believe. The moisture resistant variety, while quite expensive, is actually quite good. That is another appropriate word there - expense - It sometimes appears that many people want a baseboard to be as cheap as possible, which is never going to turn out well; or conversely they will spend large amounts on some laser cut plywood kit, which still has to be put together square... Using the lowest price materials and tools, and doing it in a bit of a rush, is not going to give the best results whatever materials you choose to use. Just as an aside, I reckon that for a permanent layout some kitchen worktop type chipboard would be the ultimate option, though I would not want to have to carry it about very often....
