  1. Thanks chaps. Unfortunately i'm only modelling 'modern' DMUs at the moment, so my problems lie with the 158/159 170 etc. I think for me I will give it a miss, as I break things super easily. I'm not even a fan of removing the bodies as it all seems so easily breakable. Furthermore, I will always be changing from running them in multiple consists to running them in their 'natural form' of 2 or 3 car sets. Hopefully future Bachmann releases are easier to couple together.

I'm guessing however, as people here have stated that Hornby got the colouring wrong on the R2702, will the oxford rail HST batch still come in the same shade as the current MK3's that they've released? Therefore even this HST batch coupled with my R2702 will look slightly different then?
  3. Thanks everyone. As I guess you can tell, I'm fairly new to the world of modelling. Therefore, to get these older 150s/158s/170s etc coupled with one another, does it require some DIY or is the process straight forward? By DIY I mean, do I need to change things that aren't meant to be changed (as Dungrange mentioned steps which involved filling holes and gluing which for someone like me, sounds like I could break the thjng!), or are the Bachmann couplers meant to come up for users to tinker with?
  4. Hi all I have a few Bachmann EMU and DMUs and wanted to ask if they can be consisted to form longer trains? For example, if I got another class 170 central trains, could I link them together to form a longer train? I know there's other things involved involving dcc etc, but I'm asking as a basic step, could they even be linked together, because from what I can see, they have non standard couplers at the ends. Thanks
  5. Thanks chaps. So I guess for someone like me that wants to run these coaches with the Hornby R2702 intercity swallow HST, should I just stick with Hornby's coaches as these are the same yellow underside that the R2702 has?
  6. Hi everyone I'm thinking of getting the Oxford Rail Mk 3 Intercity coaches, however I have a question. As I would like to have a rake go along with my Hornby R2702 (Intercity Swallow), I've noticed how the Hornby MK 3's I have are slightly yellow at the bottom, as the end of the R2702 has that distinctive yellow design. Now from looking on the oxford rail website, their coaches are more of a white at the bottom. Does that mean there is a difference, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?   7. I think we will have to agree to disagree. As I briefly mentioned above, the Bachmann 221 is also a modern passenger train, but the level of detail is simply much higher than the Class 800 that Hornby are producing. I know this is a pre-production model, but it looks as if Hornby is relying on the paint/vinyls to really spruce up the train, rather than the moulding. As YesTor mentioned above, the cabling on top of the trains looks very toy like Even with brexit, when comparing it to the Class 395 (which I think is a fair comparison, as it is only a few years old), the extra £200 price increase is insanely high for similar levels of detail. Furthermore, if this train uses the same single motor bogey like the Class 395 and the Pendolinos/Eurostars, instead of the twin flywheel like the re-tooled Class 43s, then I'm afraid Hornby is taking us for a ride.
  8. I have both the class 395 blue rapier and the dcc ready retooled versions (Sir Chris Hoy) Judging by the video, the class 800 looks like the blue rapier. I've only just started collecting but I can tell the difference quite easily between this and Hornby's Class 43's that I'm collecting, which are very very nice. Also, compared to say similar Bachman models. I've got the class 221 which is I think at least 5 years old, and that looks miles better. I was expecting more of the wow factor for this class 800, but unfortunately, I just don't see it right now, which is a shame because as other posters have rightly mentioned, this is our new "HST" and will be for the next few decades. Furthermore, for the eye watering price Hornby are charging, I honestly expect more. IMHO, this model looks very toy like and could be a lot lot better. I may actually be cancelling my preorder once I've seen it in the flesh. EDIT: Would also like to point out, that my Class 395s cost around £150 brand new, and for that price I find the quality to be very good. However for more than double the price (albeit with an extra car), Hornby cannot justify that price for a model that looks very toy like.
  9. After watching the video via the Hornby train shed website, I'm not that impressed. It looks more akin to the Class 395 blue rapier rather than the quality and craftsmanship of the retooled Class 43s.
  10. Thank you all for your replies, and for clearing up how manufacturers decide which train to produce next. I was under the impression that manufacturers like Hornby followed a set path, because with the example of the Class 43 HST, they have released pretty much all the liveries with their new retooled models, with even the GWR HST due out soon. Therefore I was wrongly under the impression that they followed some sort of chronological order or something. I will contact Bratchell models. I've had a quick look at the website and the Class 319 is quite pricey, especially as it's unpainted and I think will require a motor on top of what I have to pay there. @Captain Electra, thanks. Do you also do Class 319 First Capital Connect / Thameslink vinyls? And yes, hopefully with Bachmann producing a Class 319 in N-gauge, they could possibly release a OO gauge model soon after!
  11. Sorry I should have mentioned, I have only just started to get into the world of model trains. Started collecting around 3 months ago. I wasn't sure how the manufacturers decide on which train to model next, therefore I wanted to find out if there was a timetable or something they followed? Or are models modelled randomly? Thanks
  12. Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I'm a big class 319 fan, having taken the train back and forth from school/uni/work for over a decade now. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a manufacturer releasing the Class 319 in First Capital Connect or Thameslink colours, however with the Class 319 now being used in the North of England under the Northern livery, could we perhaps see a Class 319? Thanks
  13. If I place an order for a DC Analogue Class 156, are these still DCC ready (so I can stick in my own decoders later, if so what pin do they use?), or are they purely analogue with no DCC socket? Thanks

  17. Tell me about it. I live on an ex First Capital Connect, now Thameslink line station, and the service is terrible. Throughout the Thameslink upgrade I have never experienced such bad train service anywhere else.
  18. Hmmm... So I guess this Bachmann train is going to be short-lived. It's a shame really, the class 450 SWT is one of my local trains and looks amazing. Will be a bit of a downer having a layout next year but with the train liveries already looking out-dated.
  19. So with the SouthWest trains franchise now gone, will the Class 450s being repainted? A bit sad really, seen as we haven't even got any 450 models in yet, and probably won't until around Christmas.
  20. I've got a GNER set. Will the GNER normal consist of a power and dummy car without any modifications be able to pull 6 coaches? (So all together, 8 cars?) Thanks

  23. Yup, I'm definitely one of them. Would make a very nice train if they sold the extra coaches. I've also realised where I read the bit about the 9 car class 800. It was actually from Hornby's website: https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/hitachi-iep-bi-mode-class-800-0-gwr-train-pack.html The Hornby website talks about the real-life class 800s, and how they can be run in 9 car and even 12 car sets. Hornby to be honest should release more coaches, at least for the Class 800 GWR, as buying 2 sets to make a 10 car train for £700 is overkill and frankly ridiculous, when an extra 4 coaches should only cost £120 (£30 each), rather than £350 for an extra train set!
  24. I'm sure I read that Hornby will be releasing extra coaches for the GWR class 800, to make the full 9 car set. Can anyone confirm this or am I mistaken?
