  1. We have a section of steels that currently have TC leakage. Bloody pain to keep decent geometry on too. By the time they finally get round to ETRMS there will be some new system being used. We always seem to be on the back foot when it comes to technology and advancement. Shame when you consider the railway was born here. Instead we waste money on white elephants, HS2 - personal opinion, and make promises that then don’t get kept - electrification. Still the track needs constant care so can’t complain there.
  2. When I was on the West Coast mainline at Rugby we had to rerail the up fast at the Country End as the Lucchini Rail has worn so badly. Not even 12 month old. Thankfully it was laid on G44’s so was able to be Rerailed with 113/56e1
  3. Sorry only just came across this. Curves these tight should have pre curved rails, when not it makes it very difficult to get a nice curve profile and often it ends up with unnecessary lateral force at the fish plates causing the 50p effect.
  4. Bullhead on Wessex route is still in place on the main lines and as recently as 2015/2016 there was Bullhead switch and crossings at Wool, a slight curve with a 90mph line Speed. Was interesting cab riding over them. Depending on amount of decayed sleepers per length usually dictates 1inX to change. There is a section at Romsey with no current date for renewal, currently we are doing 1 in 6. Flat bottom slips have been around for a long time even on concrete. Up in Scotland there is a program of renewing a line with Bullhead rail, it being brought in by ship from abroad.
  5. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F382417646024 Value or not? I know my thoughts............
  6. Nice to see it’s possible to get a good price for limited editions
  7. Brought my Colas 47 from a retailer I’d never used before. Pleasantly surprised and even better when I seen the actual price was sub £136
  8. I collected my order from Rails on Friday, 2x 60’s a 68 and some mk3. I was going to get delivery but given the current issues RM are seemingly having I decided to wait until I was in Worksop and popped over. Great shop and very friendly staff. Well worth the hour detour in rush hour traffic.
  9. Good morning Dave, I was wondering if there was any update’s with the project?
  10. Depends on livery to be honest with you. From personal experience I find the Intercity and Freightliner command the highest prices. Sub 150£ your doing well. Last Intercity one I seen on flee bay sold for 175£. Virgin ones slightly more common. I brought three recently and didn’t pay more than 130£. The heritage blue one I’ve not seen in a while and the Anglia ones seem to be the cheapest when on auction and not buy now. I have brought 2 Anglia, both under 100£ second hand. I brought my Intercity and heritage one new. Hope that helps.
  11. Diesel id say it’s the 47 or 37. Unit I’d say the thumper is up there. The 85 definitely set a standard for electrics.
  12. Have to agree, not only that there are so many at least £50 cheaper if not more. I have seen them as low as £135, though I brought mine from the Class37 group, happy to help a worthwhile cause.
  13. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F142673556491 Always good too see someone profiting from hard working individuals. I must admit he hasn’t sold any since release.
  14. although that has likely gone the same way as most of the other good stuff we used to do judging by the complete lack of any attempt by NR to paint it out these days ............ on the Wessex route anyway - take the environs of Worting Jn. - an iconic structure like Battledown Flyover with the abutments covered in it - not when it was part of my patch but now - nobody gives a f&ck .................... Living in Basingstoke I’m Lucky enough to be able to view battledown daily. Also working for NR I have to say it’s not the nobody gives a f**k it’s a combination of other issues. Staff reductions over the years, increased maintenance due to ever increasing track usage. My area/patch starts on the Southampton mainline a couple of miles from Battledown down to Ashurst New Forrest. Also included is the lines to Fareham and those to Dunbridge. It’s the largest P-Way area on Wessex. All to be looked after with 40 track workers. I agree that the little beggars, well I have caught adults too, should be dealt with, the graffiti isn’t a operational issue, no it looks hideous and gives a very bad impression but when you consider the track is getting hammered near 24/7 it is so Maintenance intensive that there just isn’t free capacity. Bringing in contract staff then brings cost which needs to be funded some how, usually from maintenance. So the bigger picture is very simple, unless it’s a safety risk it won’t be a high priority. Sad but true.
  15. I’ve not got double figures yet. If I can find 145 and if I go for 805 then il be there. So much choice out there currently. The market is definitely swamped with 47’s. Anyone know if there are any plans for the original royal 47, the RES based one?
  16. Mine was also delivered today, fantastic looking model. I’m swamped with 47’s having brought the Virgin one yesterday. Just need to find myself 47145 now.
  17. I would like to add that in no way shape or form was I attempting what you seem to be assuming. I was mearly saying I am sure there are models out there that N has which 00 does not. The eurotunnel tri bo’s for instance. I am more than happy to be proven wrong and if so would put my hands up and apologise. But please do not assume I have implied something that is not the case and does not read that way, as at no point have I said even split or words to that effect. Regards.
  18. I do hope so, my Dad has a nice sized N layout which would nicely accommodate the full train. As he is modelling the west coast it would be a very good fit with his chosen era.
  19. I have no list, like wise are you able to confirm that none exist? Wagons, coaches, units, loco’s. Take away kits, after all this is a proposal for a RTR model.
  20. I am so tempted by one of these but with the Colas one on order and a virgin one I’m just not sure.
  21. Surely the fact it started as N but is now likely to be 00 shows what the demand is? I can imagine there are 00 modellers who sometimes feel the same when N gets something 00 doesn’t. It would be fantastic if both scales could be produced but if it’s not financially viable why would DJ or DTOS risk a loss or worse? Personally I hope it meets the minimum, even if it does take longer to get there.
  22. Have to agree. I own 16 of the Hornby 60 and have had no problems with bits breaking or falling off. I have a similar number of 66’s and one or two have come damaged and needed to be sent back. We all have our own opinions and I happily accept each to their own. My personal opinion is the 66 is over priced for what it is in the current market.
  23. Getting carried away now but transrail Dutch
