The rail vehicle crack epidemic seems to have become a pandemic in trams at least, CAF Urbos 3 fleets have been withdrawn from several cities worldwide recently.

(Following from the previous posts, this is your cue for some West Midlands and Australian dialects, among others)

I'm not sure the Aussie dialect is printable on a family friendly forum?

Thanks, heard mixed things about reliability in regards to the Mashima 15s, granted these were mostly from threads before Mashima even ceased operation.

If space wasn't an issue I would've already gotten a 1020, but the particular kit I'm using I've only seen it(1020) fitted to drive the rear wheels, I want it to drive the front set etc etc.

Think I'm beginning to lean more towards the HLs simply cause even with US shipping, they're less than the Mashima 1015 I know I can get, if only by a small amount

Just want to make sure we are referring to the same motors as I s eem to recall some people refer to the sizes in one way and some in another. To me (rightly or wrongly!) a 1015 and a 1020 differ in their length and speed, not body width?

    This is what I call a 1015

    And a 1020

Both have small eyelet terminals. The ones I understand to be not as reliable are this size:

With the contacts a strip of phosphor bronze rather than eyelets  on a stepped in section of the motor housing?

Ok, I'll put you down for 2?

I don't think I'll be ordering from the etchers until after Christmas, so they won't be ready until around the end of February. I'll try and get an updated LNER 51' frame etch in the same batch.

Looks like only two were built but yes please for 2. And definitely the turnbuckle underframe too if possible.

    Thanks :)

Just a note about FK3D, the supplier of the above - I emailed on a Sunday asking about a different set of the GER Restaurant Car seats (for an RTO), received a reply and quotation by return and had them in my hand on Wednesday afternoon.   Outstanding service and a quality product.

Excellent - it's on my list to get some for one of those at some point so saves me asking :) I assume it's for Bill's D18? I've been toying with asking him for a couple but I think the panelling is wrong for my era.

All my locos except one have plunger pick-ups on the loco wheels.  The exception is my latest build, a J6 where i have experimented and used DCC off the shelf pick-ups.  Works very well, easy to install and makes the wheels self centering.  All my tender pick-ups are DCC Concepts wiper pick-ups.

I've used these a number of times, both on loco chassis and also coach bogies. Only minor issue is the drag they cause but you can bend them in a bit to reduce that.
