  1. Actually it makes no difference whether you follow Coachman's drawing or gwrman's drawing, they are equally correct alternatives. Personally I go with the 3-way switch approach, you need one with 2 poles and the wiring is essentially the same. (They usually come with 4 poles, the other 2 can be used for operation of point motors if provided later. Regards Keith
  2. I assume PWS is still looking at post #1 Keith PS Why do you suggest signals © and (d) should be miniature arms?
  3. That said, if you want to do run round moves then you need to keep two crossovers, if not then the crossover to keep is the one nearer the platform, it was always preferred to keep the points close together and where the signalman could clearly see them. Regards Keith
  4. Or, without the headshunt (it was quite common to shunt from the running line) and with the original crossover reversed. Keith
  5. I would not have thought that Street Level models had been going long enough to be described as 'Vintage'. Keith
  6. I would have thought this expensive even if it came with a loco. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item45fbc445d0 Keith
  7. Perhaps this one is better, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apollo-Chrome-Garlic-Press-Crush-Easy-Clean-Heavy-Duty-/170694846967?pt=UK_Kitchen_Accessories&hash=item27be34a9f7 Keith
  8. Here http://www.cooper-craft.co.uk/00wagons.html#slaters, from the makers. Keith
  9. Not so, this one does not claim to be mint, merely new.Keith
  10. But it is from a non-smoking household, that makes all the difference Keith
  11. Yes and no You can use it with the setting box, but in that case you can't set the bounce, only the end positions and speed as with the basic firmware. Yes. Regards Keith
  12. Which can be changed, as was covered in post #3 above. The standard firmware was intended for points. Regards Keith
  13. The MERG Servo4 comes in at £1.50 per servo for the electronics so you have a significant saving on the first four signals even including the first years' subscription to MERG. The electronic assembly for these kits is IMHO easier than building the working signals to go with it. Regards Keith
  14. Bath Green Park is the biggest roof kit I am aware of, nowhere hear this but still to big for most, although you can buy half a kit. Regards in admiration Keith
  15. Dusty durrant i suspect, I spent several years with Garratts on Zambia Railways and agree that they do not synch. quite often one end will slip and not the other, and when that comes under control the relative positions of the two sets of valve gear can be anywhere, also the wheel diameter at the two ends can differ as the tolerance for reprofiing is tight within a coupled set but not so between ends, with differing diameters the frequencies at each end will differ a little and you effectively get a beat pattern between the ends that can be heard on some recordings. And as Mike says the blast from the front engine is a lot stronger than from the rear so when working hard will tend to mask the sound of the rear engine. Regards Keith
  16. But then the language is flexible and quirky, what is the logic in 'railway station' rather than 'train station' but 'bus station rather than 'roadway station'? If you go to a bus station to catch a bus, why not a train station to catch a train? I think its just our conditioning by years of familiarity, the youngsters don't have that so it will sound normal to them. Regards Keith
  17. And somewhat intriguing that they produced 93 models of 12 prototypes and gave them 'unique' numbers. So I assume the 12 with correct numbers are hence rarer than the 81 with incorrect numbers, its not clear which group this belongs in. Keith
  18. Yes, looks very Athearn to me. Rgds Keith
  19. Because the coaches/wagons will have hooks of course, removing them from locos is fairly common. Keith
  20. Personally I did not do that even when I used front page, I find it much more reliable to upload pages using a simple ftp client such as Cute ftp, or even Internet explorer in ftp mode. Then nothing is hidden and you know you are copying your pages into the server folders just as you have them at home. Regards Keith
  21. I have found Kompozer to do a reasonable job. Keith
  22. A single motor will need a more complex gear chain, probably not much difference, the OEM cost of a motor will be under a fiver, neither here nor there in getting to the retail price. and how do you get the ends to slip independently with only one motor? Used to listen to that feature most everyday when I worked for Zambia railways with a 1:50 grade out of the station just a block away, usually lost their footing on the level crossing, first the front engine then the rear engine, then when that one came under control open her up to get the momentum back. Memories of the good times, got to have another look through my Garratt page.keith
  23. Well, you will still need the Ultrascale wheels to convert it, and the K's kit can be melted down to make weights. And the Heljan chassis will probably need springing so Comet (or Brassmasters) will bring out a chassis pack for it and you can open the piggy bank yet again. Think on the bright side. Keith
  24. The picture appears here with a better caption It appears there was a close tie with the UK GWR and with Brunel. Keith
