  1. Imagine if somebody took either the Hornby James model and did the same thing?
  2. Just a fun questionnaire I thought I'd make and share with everyone. 1. What type of railway locomotive would you be - steam or modern diesel-electric traction? 2. What company would it be for? 3. How big or small would the engine (you) be? 4. What wheel arrangement woudl you have? 5. What gauge would you run on - standard gauge, narrow gauge or miniature gauge? 6. What would your purpose be - express passenger, heavy freight, mixed-traffic (branch-line traffic or main-line traffic) or shunting? 7. For the steam enthusiast: would the engine (you) have a tender or tanks? 8. For the diesel enthusiast: would the engine (you) be big (Co-Co, 1Co-Co1 or A1A) or small (Bo-Bo, single-bogie, 0-6-0 or 0-4-0)? 9. Which is your favourite railway company you’d like to be a proud part of? 10. After years of service, what would your fate be after withdrawal (scrapped or preserved - if preserved, would it be static display or restored to running service)? Copy these questions, fill them in and reply with your answers.
  3. I've been working on some freelance steam locomotives and here is one I came up with using the BR Standard 9F as a basis and an LMS Stanier 8F as inspiration. This locomotive is a Southern Bulleid 2-8-2 freight locomotive built mainly for heavy long distance freight. This locomotive is the X1 Class 2-8-2 tender locomotive and was first introduced in 1944. A total of 90 were built and all have survived into BR ownership until they were replaced by the 9Fs and withdrawn between 1960 to 1964. Only one member of the class, No. 188, has survived into preservation. Also, my GWR 2-6-4T 'Platypus' is steadily taking shape soon and my Mk II LNWR Mogul is nearing completion. My freelance LNER Hudson 4-6-4 based loosely on Gresley's W1 4-6-4 is steadily coming to fruition.
  4. Interesting idea! That looks very interesting! May we please see a video of it in action sometime?
  5. This locomotive is undoubtedly a GNR Class J4 or 521 0-6-0. I just looked it up.
  6. Oh, thank you! I certainly will! Yes, indeed! Thank you very much.
  7. Interesting project, there. When I first read the title, I thought it was a discussion thread until I saw the Cakebox Challenge category it was listed in.
  8. Gosh! I love that Rivarossi 2-8-0 Consolidation. It's like a freelance 2-8-0 brought to life!
  9. What can I say? We all have to start somewhere. I know I did from a very early age of 6 or 7.
  10. Yes, welcome to the group! I'd love to see some models by you.
  11. Nothing special, just a brief update on Percy. Also, I recently obtained the Bachmann Paxton model and it looks nice (except the front buffer beam is nearly orange and the rear buffer beam is all black, something most diesel shunters in real-life don't have). Then, I also obtained a Silver Fox Class 28 Co-Bo to make into BoCo. It shouldn't take long, hopefully.
  12. A certain cartoon show abotu a yellow family, anyone?
  13. A lot has changed over thelast weeks on my workbench, but anyhoo, here are some more projects just to wetten your appetite. No pics of my freelance W1 Hudson, but that's still ongoing. I hope you all like it and I hope you liked the Caledonian Ten Wheeler (you helped me choose the livery for it), the tender still needs work. More coming, soon!
  14. And here I am again with some more Freelance stuff! The Mogul has had some improvements done to it and it looks nice so far. The Caledonian Ten-Wheeler and the Eastern Freelance W1 4-6-4 is taking shape as well. More on it as it develops.
  15. Then perhaps you might like to take a look at my thread. I was inspired by the aforementioned collection to make them. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/133555-fun-with-freelance/
  16. I find this thread very interesting. I started making freelance locomotives because of this website I once found via a Google Search of LNWR engines: http://www.wheele.co.uk/frames.html That's what got me into turning some of my Bachmann Thomas models into freelance designs.
  17. Thanks! I used the actual Hornby Thomas body which was cut down to fit the flat running-board his book counterpart has.
  18. Hello, hello once again! I have been pretty busy and here is some updates on my RWS Thomas model! And here is the NWR Blue livery (decals have yet to be added as would the lining). So, please let me know what you think of the model, so far. I bet Knuckles or sparkshot would be pretty impressed.
  19. And here we have is Emily - she has been upgraded with detailing and glazed windows. And here are her recent improvements: I hope you like this model as much as I did improving it. The cab has been detailed and there is a grated floor from cab to tender. Please let me know what your thoughts are on it.
  20. Nice work! Do you have plans to make a Furness Railway D5 0-6-0?
  21. Today is my birthday and I felt like posting something to tide you all over. This was something I made with my MkI LMS (Ex-LNWR) Mogul. The coaches I used are period-correct.
  22. They do look nice. Would you incorporate pieces from kits onto locomotives to give them an imaginary look?
  23. Gosh! It's been a long time! Plus, I will be back with some more updates on the models real soon. Emily is complete as is Edward who is nearing completion as well as Percy. Stick around for more as it develops... And here is another taster of a project that is finally back on track (so to speak)! Yes this does remind you of Sparkshot's version of the RWS E2X Thomas, but this is my interpretation of the model as he appears in the later books from Branch Line Engines onward. Also, I used the Hornby Thomas body with the Bachmann Jinty 3F running-board and chassis. It was a challenge getting them to merge together, but it was worth the effort (with help from an actual railway locomotive works, of course). Once it is complete, it will have NWR lettering on the side tanks above the No. 1. I hope you all like the model as the progress goes on.
  24. Some people have taken TOMY Thomas models and made them into the prototypes. It looks very impressive. I have seen some models and they all look very nice.
