  1. Hi Are there any new updates for this excellent layout? Stephen
  2. Hi I agree with the above comment. Ian is always a pleasure to deal with. Goes out his way to help. Stephen
  3. Hi Thanks for the replies. Here are some photos from Stirling and clackmannan mrg new layout Springwood. This will be one of three new layouts making their debut at our exhibition
  4. Hi As the exhibition is getting closer, here are some pictures of our O gauge layout Elderslie.
  5. Hi I would also like to add my name to the list for new chassis blocks if a casting is in the offing. So far I've found three class thirty ones with expanded chassis. I hope this doesn't happen to my class fifty sixes or sixties. That would be me finished buying Hornby locos for good. And I don't think I'd be alone. Stephen
  6. Aye right! A shop called after Chas and Dave in Glesga. That'll work well. Even with free pizza and Irn Bru.
  7. Hi I don't think anybody expected Irene and David etc to come out of retirement and re-open the shop. I think folk are hoping the shop will re-open as a model shop. If it's called D+F all the better. But as long as it's a well stocked shop with friendly staff. I'm sure people will use it no matter what it's called. Glasgow city centre needs a decent model shop. Hopefully one of the bigger shops from across the border might seize the opportunity. Stephen
  8. Hi I don't know if it's true. But hopefully it is. There must still be a place for a decent model railway shop in Glasgow city centre. If it does re-open I hope we can all support it. It will take a lot of work and goodwill to bring it back to the days of Irene, David, Albert and Chas though. The new owner wouldn't go wrong if they "invited" some of those old codgers back for a day or two a week. Their patter will still be murder. But worth it. Stephen
  9. Hi Marcus It's gone very quiet on here. Hopefully they are not keeping you to busy at work. Stephen
  10. Hi It's gone awfully quiet here!! Hope all is OK? Stephen
  11. Hi Jim Yes you are correct. I am a member of Ayr mrg and have been for nearly thirty years. I remember Bill Petrie very well. A big fun character who was always up for a "Cairey oan". Some of the stories he used to tell us about his various clubs and and where he worked were always a laugh. If I remember correctly he was an excellent scratch builder in N'gauge and smaller scales. As Alex said "much missed" See you in September. Stephen
  12. Hi Jim I've just came across this thread. It has been an excellent and informative read. The tenement looks fantastic. It just needs a corporation bus and a dust cart to look like one of those black and white photos of old Glasgow. I like your ideas for trees and cabling and will use them for our own club layout. Hope your eye problem gets better soon. I look forward to reading more updates. Stephen
  13. Hi Jim We realised from previous posts that a lot of people missed the exhibition due to various local holidays. We're trying this format this year as it doesn't clash with either the racing or the Glasgow holiday. I hope it works also, as exhibitors and traders alike who wish to stay over locally have been able to get far cheaper accommodation than what it would be for the Gold cup racing weekend. Stephen

  15. Hi Marcus Sorry! I should have specifically have said that I had had problems previously with the Humbrol range of weathering washes. They dissolved the factory fitted transfers on more than one of my models. It may have just my luck though. I would agree that enamels are your best bet for weathering. I usually use Precision paints myself. I also use the Vallejo range of paints etc. The Mig weathering powders etc are very good. They are that bit dearer, but last for ages. I would encourage you too have a look at whatever military modelling websites that you can find. YouTube is also a very good place to find them. These guys have some great ideas and their range of skills and tips bring a whole lot of new ideas to railway modelling. Regards Stephen
  16. Hi Gareth That looks a great idea for a layout. With instances of models having bits missing or falling off. This is a great selling tool. The buyer has the chance to "try before they buy" saving you a lot of bother as well I'd imagine. Good luck with it. I have to totally agree with Legend also. The city of Glasgow and more so the west of Scotland is crying out for a good model railway shop, again! Something the size of, and as well stocked as Trains for 4u would be excellent. Hopefully somebody will see the potential. Stephen
  17. Hi I really like the idea for this layout. The photos certainly give an impression of a much larger model. The detailing and weathering is just right. Stephen
  18. Hi Has anybody fitted an i-phone speaker to a loksound v3.5 yet? I have tried the i-phone six. It sounded fantastic for all of ten seconds and then became very distorted. So can anybody recommend a phone speaker (if any) to use for the v3.5? Thanks Stephen
  19. Hi Really looking forward to seeing this develop. It has loads of potential. Stephen
  20. Hi For me there were two layouts, Hayley Mills and Bolden Junction. Hayley Mills was featured in two consecutive editions of Rail magazine. The quality and quantity of scratch built and detailed stock was just a total eye opener to me who was just starting out in modern image modelling. Bolden Junction appeared in a Model Rail video. I wish I had a pound for every time I watched it. Again it had quality stock, which was either scratch built or detailed. This again was excellent in it's day.
  21. Hi Mark Good to see you back posting. How's the whirligig? Stephen
