...as well it might be, but it gave me a very enjoyable few minutes of distraction from work! Whatever the outcome, thank you for supporting the visit - look forward to attending and seeing her attack Tenterden bank.

So they did! It's all slotting in to place...

I've just noticed that for the K&ESR's 50th Anniversary Gala (over 01-02JUN), No 31806 will be visiting from the Swanage Railway and "is sponsored by Rapido Trains" - surely, this can mean only one thing? 🤔 Given O1 Class No 65 is already confirmed to be visiting from the Bluebell, could be a 'big' weekend for the team... https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2024/04/steam-locomotive-76017-to-be-based-in-kent-for-2024.html

With the order book deadline today (15th), I guess not long to find out if the minimum order was met... Here's hoping! 🤞

SE&CR P Class 'Pride of Sussex' departs Great Coles Wood Halt in the early 1970s, her train consisting solely of a SER six-wheel brake van purchased from the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough, Hampshire -

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY Towards the end of her career, LB&SCR H2 Class No 32424 ‘Beachy Head’ was accumulating reasonable mileage on a variety of duties, even making a guest appearance at the Eastleigh Works open day on 07 August 1957 - the preparation for which included rigorous cleaning, reportedly revealing traces of umber! However, despite being a great favourite amongst Brighton devotees, ‘Beachy Head’ performed her swan song on 13 April 1958 over the route she had made her own; Victoria to Newhaven. Consisting of seven corridor carriages with a train load of 255 tons, the RCTS ‘Sussex Coast Limited’ covered 56.8 miles in 81 minutes and 11 seconds. After working the special she retired to Brighton shed for the very last time. Her final move followed on 24 April 1958 to Eastleigh, with dismantling commencing 18 May. According to official records, the scrapping process was completed just two weeks later on 31 May. It is noteworthy that she was not only the last of the Brighton Atlantics to survive; she was also the last express passenger locomotive of the 4-4-2 wheel arrangement to work for BR. Looking in immaculate condition, replica H2 Class No 32424 ‘Beachy Head’ drifts through Great Coles Wood on the Nuthatch Line with an Engine Head Signal denoting Oxted and Brighton via East Grinstead (LL) and Lewes -

@RapidoCorbs, out of interest, please can I check the running number of the Staveley Coal & Iron Co (967214) example? I presume it's No 4822, as per the artwork on the product page, but the description gives No 4922! With the company being recorded at Sheffield Park, a preserved example could potentially be found in the south east... -

For those more familiar, please can I check that Port of Bristol Authority No 58054 is Diagram O11 (943025) iso Diagram O15? I presume the former as unfitted, however, the description on the product page states "O15 10t unfitted open", as does the sticker on the box! -

Some of the most attractive Wealden scenery on the Nuthatch Line is found just north of Great Coles Wood and forms the backdrop to this view of LB&SCR A1X Class No 32655, seen shunting a ballast wagon on a still afternoon -

In response to a shortage of light engines on the Isle of Wight, authorities at Eastleigh transferred three 'Terriers' from the mainland in May 1930. No B650 was chosen and following a comprehensive overhaul at Brighton was fitted with an extended coal bunker which offered greater capacity than the Stroudley original. Renumbered W9 and named 'Fishbourne' (a village near Wootton), her appearance today echoes that once seen on the Bembridge branch -
The November 2023 issue of Steam Days has an extensive spread dedicated to the Hayling Island branch and on page 10 is a picture of the station itself showing the goods yard with two covered goods vans, a 16T mineral, and 'Pill Box' brake van. Would anyone be able to help identify the two covered goods shown, please? Because of the shadows, I can't determine if they're ventilated, or not. The furthest looks similar to the 12T produced by Bachmann? The article is available free on Readly, after creating an account, but declining the trial. The picture is from the Britton Collection and can be copied across, but reluctant to do so!

Caught in a flurry of snow, the local postman heads towards Great Coles Wood Farm, no doubt delivering the last of the Christmas letters and parcels. Season's greetings from the Nuthatch Line! -
