Looks good Pete.
That's an interesting tangle of extension cables and 3 way switches. (in the first picture of the whole layout).
Thanks KrisHa! Yep a right up lash up…extensions plugging into extensions
That will be sorted before it get’s on the road

Superb stuff Mikkel
Those clip on scenic sections are a good way of increasing the layout without taking up to much real estate…
A smashing and clever extension to this layout and the photographs to finish are stunning

Nice to see your return to Scotland, Heljan have a variety of very nice diesels that suit and I'm looking forward to the development of the new scenario.
Thanks jollysmart - agreed, I have a class 26 and 27 on preorder. That should be it for rolling stock after that…famous last words

Thank also Mike - I had a bit of a bonus from work last year so thought I would buy the stock while I had it for the future…especially as looking at my depressing predicted pension statements - no margin for 7mm as it will just about keep me in Mars Bars in the future…

End-on views aren't often explored on layouts, perhaps because many people feel that scenic breaks are a must. I have discovered the pleasures of end-on viewing with a couple of my layouts though, the depth does add realism. Taking photos from that angle can be more difficult, as the camera cannot be tricked to disregard the chasm along the front in the way that your mind can! But never mind - layouts aren't built for photos after all.
I have to say, 2mm stock has become quite detailed of late
Thanks Mikkel - yes agree about end on views. As you say more for the viewer than the camera I think. I think the cantilevered corner on Kyle 2FS seemed to work well so I may as well scale it up and then improve upon it.
At least the 2mm stock is easier to hide/store than the 7mm

You're going to need to extend Wenford next to make it fit the vans!
Ha! Have pondered that one quite a few times Kris but have decided I will just make an 800mm Fiddle stick for it as a run off…more on that in the next Wenford update- 1

Thank you for changing the You Tube permissions, I have accessed the link.
An excellent video, a great advert for a 7mm Cl.37/4 model, sounds very nice indeed.
How can anyone stop at just one example?
regards, Graham
Thanks Graham.Yes this 7mm stuff is very tempting…

Great to hear you're still inspired. That 37 will add more impetus to your modelling mojo
Looking great matey! Thanks Marc - go to it I say - about time we were treated to another stunning layout from yourself Sir…

More smashing stuff Mike
I particularly like the first shot looking at the station - has to do a double take that it wasn’t a real pic at first
How are the extensions bits to make it a roundy roundy coming on?

Cheers Pete. Having seen your entry and that brilliant header photo the same compliment extends to you. Especially so given that Kyle is in 2mmFS.
The mirror (pinched from one our wardrobes!) neatly slides out. I was thinking of taking it to a glazier to have appropriate sized holes nibbled out. However, I don’t think this will go down well when I put it back on the wardrobe door! Anyhow, it’s only the rear 4 tracks beyond the island platform that’ll be linked. The front five tracks will only ever serve as a photographic display.
Thanks again for the kind compliment.
Mike.
Thanks Mike - nice of you to return the compliments.
For Wenford, I have used a thin sheet of mirrored material I found in the studio workshop - less than a millimetre thick.
You might be able to experiment with something like this rather than risk your marriage interfering with the wardrobe doors

Great vid Ian - I especially like the end credits

Absolutely superb Mike.
Amazing to think it’s a model
When you link with the loft run around assume you will have to remove the mirror?!
Amazing modelling and photos too

It is almost a Virtual 2mmFS Minimeet with quite a number of 2mmFS layouts represented
Indeed! See you at 10:00am Ian -
Great project Mark.
Nice additions and of course painted and weathered to your usual high standards
That photo plank has come in handy during lockdown

Lovely stuff Mikkel.
Nearly missed it too…one of the problems of not commenting as soon as you read something
Love the explanation, experiments and the outcome - right up there with Shell Island Looks fabulous.
BTW, the line about the static grass and your receding hair made me laugh a lot

Pete,
I think I'm about to have a sudden attack of envy. Very naughty of you to post these enticing photos!
David
Sorry David18 hours ago, Mikkel said:The Heljan I grew up with were not capable of this kind of model. Times have changed. Even so, Lee's work seems to have improved it further.
Thanks Mikkel - yes already a good model but even better now…

Roll on 7mm Kylie I say...

Mark
Thanks Mark - preparations are under way…

Thanks for the breakdown on how you constructed the roof Mike - absolutely fascinating
As you say it could have been 3D printed, but that would take away a lot of the fun of the build as well as those odd moments where you drop hot solder on yourself
Don’t beat yourself up over the front screen either - I think it works really well...

Blown away again by this
Stunning modelling and photography. The mirror works so well and if you clipped the second photo down it would just take out the loco.
Am quite liking the lighting myself - your wife is a tough critique! If that was her only comment then it’s testament to the rest of the modelling as that roof structure is superb.
Really liking the detailing including the various shades of grime on the glass and the broken panes.
As Mikkel says the shot without even a train in sight is stunning.
Look forward to the next instalment...

I missed this first time around Mike.
Absolutely stunning work The roof is incredible and really good use of card for the front fascia. Looking forward to see your use of the mirror and lighting prowess to get some amazing shots of this.
Staying tuned now it’s on my radar!
Very inspirational modelling...

Nice weathering work Pete. Those Skytrex vans look very red as they come!
Pete, I didn't notice the mirror either until your assistant gave it away. You'll have to include a confidentiality clause in his contract
Many thanks Mikkel,Yep I forget how red it was now when I see that picture of it!
Ha! I think I fessed up about the mirror myself in previous posts so no need for contracts - I recall it was all done as a hand shake...remember those?

31 minutes ago, PaternosterRow said:Wow, Pete. This is coming along nicely. I’ve always admired your attention to precision and I can see why 0 gauge appeals to you now - the level of detail is outstanding and made maximum by your weathering and building techniques. The subtle weathering on the buildings is superbly done. Those long shots are a joy. Using a mirror is a great trick and I see how you have made sure that it butts up precisely, ensuring that everything is absolutely straight so that the illusion is convincing. Mind you, I wouldn’t expect anything else from the master of straight lines and angles. Brilliant piece of work.
Many thanks also Mike,
Am blushing here Kind comments indeed!
Must admit, most of my ‘day job’ buildings are very angular so I do enjoy the straight lines!
I am hoping to start cracking into the final details soon so it will be ready for exhibitions...remember those!...when we get back to normality...- 1

Great progress Pete. The buildings set the scene nicely and certainly capture the prototypes well...
Nice work on the Gronk..... Looks nicely done and picks out the detail on the model nicely.
Be good to see those Hoods weathered eventually...
Think a nice Tractor would look at home too....
Cheers,
Mark
Many thanks Mark.Yes the hoodies are on the list to work on.
As for the 37...Rule No.1 that...not for exhibitions but pure home indulgence you understand...in advance of 7mm Kyle...

Great to see progress. P.S. The mirror works particularly well in the final shot.
Many thanks Rich - yes I thing some cunning photography is required to avoid seeing twice the locos...but the buildings and wagons seem to work ok... -
Great job Bryn

Thanks for the kind comments Mark.
Yep much deliberation, faff and pondering was had before I decided to work on the present…the one thing at a time approach and try and finish stuff.
Worry not, that Tractor will keep making cameo appearances…and no doubt will be joined by a few other Rule No.1 purchases…
