The speed at which previous layouts have been built hasn't always been influenced by a deadline and I'm certainly NOT bemoaning the exhibition side of it all. Absolutely right those who say I don't have to say yes to exhibitions and I think that may be the case going forward. There will be exceptions of course but I already have two for 2025, at opposite ends of the year as it happens. 

 

No, I will simply adopt a more considered approach. I've built and exhibited five layouts between 2016 and 2022. All have been featured in comics in that period as well. You must bear in mind there were many false starts prior to that with no layout actually being finished prior to Sleep Lane. I see those six years as an apprenticeship.

You’ve given me a lift there Rob I’m where you were prior to Sheep Lane! Many False starts! I’m 6 years in no layout ever finished, I’ll never manage to produce what you achieve but I’ve an empty train room. All taken down to dispose of then a small Sheepesque start again!

Just found this thread Trevor, always enjoy your work and Burngullow was nice layout and as always a good read. But this one I’m enjoying too great work so far.

Brass screws I tried yes I also found difficult.

Then moved over to copper clad board much easier.

This isn’t the best but as it’s on a viaduct end it will be disguised under timbers.

yet to slit the join with a fine disk.

Said I’d be still be knocking around waiting, well 6 years later I am! 
Good to see it out and yes shame about losing all those photos. I held off for a long time as I double post over on Western Thunder so it was all there then Jeff Grainger convinced me to sort it out it’s the currency of the forum.

Still my build in the same 6 years has bearly moved! So I’m reassured I’m in good company 😆

Hi Guy happened to be driving by yesterday but my hoped for camera position on the lower slopes of the wood was unreachable in the wet conditions. So much as other photos here I was limited to the road bridge to look at the Calvert.

the verticals don’t seem to align with its surrounding buildings?

As promised, a few Moon pics - I have to keep Ade happy! These are compressed Jpegs - much smaller files than the original TIFs. But they do stand a bit of enlargement. To give a sense of scale, the largest craters in these images are around 60 - 80 miles (100 - 130km) in diameter.

One of the large "seas" - Mare Serenitatis - a huge (400 miles across) lava bed....

Wasn’t what I was expecting.. I had presumed from your description at Edington it was at 90 deg to how it is I.e. running in line with the other buildings and as wide as the space you left!

Now I’m really interested to see how this building blends in.

Enjoyed reading the 5 pages Guy, shame a lot of the photos are missing from the earlier pages due to the forum crash!

Great looking layout and captures it well. Trackwork looks very good. Then it all does!
I live pretty close by and worked as an electrician at Foster Yeoman 1999 to 2003 never took on single photo! Never crossed my mind! As all my focus was on kettles pre 1968! Look back now I worked everywhere over the railway could of captured some decent stuff.

I did go over to the wagon repairs shed at Whatley once to look at some lighting, so saw what you have modelled there from inside the fence as it were, your doing/done a great job on it.

The culvert photo your short of I’m sure I could get for you but wouldn’t be until I’m that way. So might be next week might be in a months time no good really I know!

In case anyone is interested this is the true artist at work Boomer. The Matte Medium appears at 16.42 mins.

Now I see he uses real limestone to better effect than I managed!

I’ll have to study the video again!

Hi Ian it’s woodland scenics fine more n gauge than 00 I have done away with the real stuff causing problems by staining the sleepers with dust which is why I repainted them!

the stuff I reused was just up against the rock outcrop not on the track that will be new.

Essentially what you said not a good idea to reuse on the track.

Though with a small hammer in a jar it did go down quite fine again probably as it had real stone in it!

Was an easy process to remove the ballast as I demonstrate here.
Matte Medium the adhesive doesn’t go rock hard at 25 to 75 diluted to water.

Then sucked off with a vacuum with a cloth over to recover it.
Crushed back to loose again slightly and reused beside the track as below.
 

Sleepers repainted below.

More soon.

Years ago a bought some trees called forest canopy, I had thought they were rubbish, but I dug them out today and used some of them. I have to say, I think they look pretty good. They are mixed in with some seafoam and horsehair. The gap between the ground and the trees will be filled in with trees planted in the foam. I also did some laying of some cable trunking but there's a lot more to do on that.  

 

The first picture shows the difference between the back scene with and without this addition. You can also see the cable trunking I did. The newly laid part isn't perfectly straight.

 

 

Looks Bob on the backscene treatment! Better by far than without coming together rather well.
