  1. A small amount of progress. boxes made, they will have tarps over them for protection from the snow. I will have to build a gantry to unload the boxes. Then I think the road gang will have to come in to relay the butchered track Might have Santa and the elves on a raised platform instead of inset track.
  2. Following a good suggestion I have found an old ute, put corrugated iron in the back and sent it out to repair a shed somewhere Then the sun came out That should be it, but have to repair the power lines
  3. That looks really good now, the graffiti artist did a good job. the rubbish looks good and natural, did someone throw a dustbin over the parapet?
  4. Only photograph the model from the angle of the middle two pictures and then the perspective is irrelevant. The distance is hidden by the wall. I really like this model, it is well thought out and seems true to life from what I can remember of similar areas. Try weathering the walls to hide the white areas on the joints and then some rubbish, (old bike, shopping trolley) in the cutting.
  5. I suppose you could go up onto a real carpark and photograph the top and use that as a backdrop. That way you could get the angle right. I do like this one, but needs more graffiti on the bridge.
  6. Well, one down, next one is a fun item. I thought I might link this to my other project, I am making a Santa's Workshop layout in On18. Just a loop with two passing points, one in the open and one hidden, so it looks like a train takes parcels into a building complex and comes out empty. This could be what it looks like inside one of the buildings. Have to make the containers to carry the pressies First time using foam board and a little engine kit. Should be fun!!
  7. It is probably a bit late to suggest this, but have you looked at Scalescenes multi story carpark kit (T035) it has a good top deck with parking bay markings. Do the bushes hide to much of the graffiti on the bridge walls or is that just the camera angle. I think you should look around your area, because out here in Oz the graffiti artists try to get their tags on the actual span of the bridge. I think this could be one of the good models when finished, keep going.
  8. I am overwhelmed by the attitude of people on this Cake Box Challenge blog, I have had helpful hints, tips and assistance by other competitors, telling me how to do things, ideas for improving my entry and displaying my pictures. In a normal competition world you would not get this. So, a big thank you to all the people who have given ideas to everyone else, this is a testament to the attitude of Railway modellers towards each other. I don't care if I don't win, I have learned so much from looking at other posts, reading the ideas and looking at other peoples entries THANK YOU ALL.
  9. Thanks Kevin, I think I need a lie down as well, that sounds too technical for me, that is why I have a graphic artist daughter, to understand these things. Thank you also for turning the pictures for me. I don't have anything smaller so might just leave it off. Or I might put the tail end of a passenger carriage disappearing off the back edge.
  10. Nearly there, had the hot glue gun out to make the power lines. couple of blobs on the outer line. now have to get my graphic artist daughter to work her magic with her posh camera. all my photos were all taken with an IPhone 5 Have just viewed and would like to rotate second and third picture but can't work out how to in the post.
  11. Thanks, I have enjoyed doing this, a bit different from my N Gauge stuff, now for something completely different. Probably On18 (O gauge on N Gauge track)
  12. Phil, has there been any updates on entry time or where on the BRM site to post the final entry? We have only just got the November 2017 issue of BRM last week. we have to wait 2 to 3 months for any modelling Magazines to appear in the newsagents. It is a good job I follow your blog, that is where I found out about the comp. Thanks.
  13. Like this? Still got to get the hot glue gun out to make the power lines.
  14. Nearly finished, just the power lines to do now, and a final weathering. Can't find a railway crossing in my spares, only railroad(American, we use English here) whistle sign to close to track, have to move it. Still not sure about the Diesel, is it to dominating?
  15. Luke, the closing date may be November or October but that is only 9 or 10 months away, one month already gone this year, time flies when you are having fun. Plenty of weeds and scrap around this side of the rails would be nice
  16. Shapeways do one but it is 2012 - 16 model, to late for the diesel I am thinking of using, then again there is a mad max version and leave the diesel off.
  17. I only do dry stream beds because I have not mastered the water thing yet, might try in another project.
  18. Small amount of progress happened this week, Managed to get the windmill to stay together and the Kangaroos have moved in. Still got the trees to do.
  19. I think this is the reason for the cakebox challenge, to try new stuff and techniques without ruining your layout. It has been ideal for me with white metal kits, ground cover and spray guns all new, and a different scale, usually N Gauge, doing OO, next might try On18, (O gauge on N track)
  20. Been a busy Christmas with plenty of visitors, the holiday here is six weeks (middle of Summer) and the temps have been in the high 30's, to hot for the shed. will start again now, but indoors, just to finish this one. will start another one soon, maybe a Christmas theme. Santa's workshop or similar..
  21. Halliwell's close looks good but Vertical alley(Kierant) looks better?? but maybe the steps would be too slippery when wet!
  22. I like this idea, the steel framework of the corrugated cardboard looks really good, could you keep it?
  23. That looks better, I like the man with the spade admiring his (your) work. I think this is a winner
  24. That looks really effective, Hope you fill the gap between fence and shed or the sheep will get out!!
  25. nit picking, does the track and some spare rail cover the two railway items, you really need the relay boxes or the half wagon I think. apart from that it is the best one I have seen so far, some are to realistic for me.
