  1. Sounds good, If it is a small signal box, in his chair or outside with the token, waiting to pass it over.
  2. I am glad you are still finishing this one. I was looking forward to the finished item. It is looking good and when the details are fitted it will be fantastic. well done
  3. The embankment is growing, it now has grass, fence and the Water troughs made from I beam Planted some bulbs, weeds and a small tree painted the fence and broken a hole for the train spotters to get through. also some brambles. Now have to go to the shops to buy a pack of School children and some water
  4. Thanks Mark. have not thought of the water yet but might try either varnish or one of the commercial water products.
  5. Start has been made. The plan is this. The sleepers are being respaced. Have cut them but not spaced evenly. had to super glue the end ones because they kept falling apart. The base is foam board and the embankment is card formed Will have to make another tree now. Will put it on top of Embankment outside the fence
  6. I like the muddy lane idea, and it will show us how to do water in puddles. I have not done water yet so hope you post how you do yours. Also, what do you use to make the hedges? I use pot scourers cut up and teased out, as they are green I can paint them without the worry of different colours showing through It is fun doing Gauges other than the one you usually work in.
  7. We, here we go again. Not many ideas posted yet so I am thinking about having a few boys sitting on an Embankment by a main line cutting with two tracks and a water trough in the tracks. waiting to see the wave of water. Have done research and found the troughs were 17" wide and 5" deep made of sheet metal in 30' lengths and pegged every other sleeper. Water level was about 1.5" above track height and the ends were inclined to keep the water level and no obstacle to catch scoop, luckily the boys will be in the middle of the run so I don't have to worry about that. I have another idea, a bus waiting at a level crossing for the train to come past, but that can wait,
  8. Well, I for one am looking forward to the Christmas break, I hope you all get what you wished for and have a safe and happy Christmas. We are expecting a temperature of 30'c for Xmas day here in Australia(Oz) so I will be thinking of you all enjoying a cold, White?? Christmas. With regard to the new CBC. I hope everyone is prepared for Easter!!! I will watch with interest and maybe enter one or two.
  9. I would have a bit further than Bergman to travel but it sounds good. I could combine it with visiting Family and friends in the UK. I really enjoyed entering this comp as I did not have to send in or bring the entry to a point, well done BRM. I learned a lot about composition of cameos for my layout and techniques to model scenery and felt the other competitors were very helpful and encouraging to each other. Well done everyone
  10. Marly. Enter it in whatever stage it is, I gave in to pressure and entered my Parcel Service despite not complete, the modeling can still be judged and I was looking forward to seeing a Steam Punk theme.
  11. Well, that cuts me out, I never win raffles. Hope the rules are easy to understand and put into practice, I have noticed that the challenge rules were simple but many people were trying to find loopholes in them or needed them explained again and again. This was a great challenge for me as I didn't have to post the finished item in or take it to a show. Hope the next one is on the same lines, photo and description, something on the lines of Matchbox or Suitcase!!
  12. Well, I gave in to preasure from she who must be obeyed. If you produced it then enter it and don't waste your time. also the encouragement from other competitors help with the decission. Good luck to all competitors. two days to go till closing date
  13. That would be a Huntsman spider, some are as large as your hand, hide behind the sun visor in your car, scare the living daylights out of you but don't bite you, they hunt other spiders so we don't kill them. check the visor before driving off
  14. Thanks for all the encouragement, I will have to think about the Santa one. I still have to finish the small Narrow Gauge Engine, and sort out the boxes, also find a reindeer.
  15. Well, I had a go. enjoyed the challenge and learned a lot from the advice and viewing other entries. My three tries were Bet Bet Creek, Silo Art and Parcel Service I am happy with two, both entered in the challenge. Was not happy with Santa so did not enter it. Hope everyone who had a go enjoyed themselves. I have learned a lot from all of you, thanks for the advice.
  16. Last Post for the Silo Art Entry. Had to fit in a cake box, pity I can't get a cake box here so I made one the size is 8" x 6" x 8" high Close up of the work crew checking the ballast and wondering how to remove the fallen branch. An Engineer is checking his plans A Grain Train has just passed. The wagons are both new and I have not weathered them yet, can't make up my mind if they are old or new.
  17. Well, The final post in this Blog. I have repaired the phone lines using Nylon stocking thread from my wives swing kit. and I used PVA Glue to stiffen the lines to make them stand straight to the edge of the board. I have entered this one in the Cake Box Challenge. and Phil has posted it on the entry site. Good Luck to all contestants.
  18. Latest update. The work crew have arrived with a ballast wagon to top up and some are thinking of removing the dropped branch Chief engineer is checking his drawings to see if everything is in the right place will have to get someone to remove the spare I beams
  19. Mr Tea. I don't know which is most prototypical but the water tower between the tracks with the tap wheel nearest to the door looks best. If you have it to the side then you need two. I like your idea of cutting a kit in half and having each part protruding from the doors, don't forget to give each half different numbers, I have seen engines with numbers on the buffer bar.
  20. Like Bergmann in Germany, in Australia they don't use cake boxes that size so I made my own, but how do you know it is 8" x 8" x 6" unless I put it on the cutting mat that has inch squares marked. The closing date was mentioned at the beginning and gave us 1 year to produce our entry. Some people build a whole layout in less time than that. Will the judging be on the BRM Site? over a few weeks? will you explain the voting procedure for us please I have enjoyed this challenge, learned a lot from looking at other entries and the advice given on my posts by other contributors. I consider myself a winner already, whether others think I am or not does not matter. I have beaten the challenge and produced 2.5 entries. Well done BRM for encouraging us to have a go at something different.
  21. Hroth, don't worry about the words, getting it down to 200 is the problem. it does say up to 200.
  22. Maybe you could put a couple of cyclists or walkers at the roadside, then it would not matter what was on the road.
  23. Some more progress on the Silos, Roof and control cabin made from Scalescenes Painted Corrugated panels, More work done on tree, took off some foliage Tree planted in corner, have to finish ground and paint lower trunk brown. Broken branch might need a clean up crew to remove. Just to see what it looks like with Grain Wagon and ballast wagon.
  24. Love "Ned" He looks cosy in his stall and the coal wagon is great. Your tree is coming along well, takes time to get the wire into the right shape, I mixed poster paint in with the PVA and added to grout so the colour is through the tree, if a bit breaks of it is not so noticeable then, when you add the foliage, Firm Hold Hairspray (my wife's as I don't have that much hair) works as a good glue, spray, sprinkle, spray, sprinkle, admire, maybe more spray and sprinkle to finish. The lichen on the office roof was a good idea, will have to start saving the dust from the tea bag box now.
  25. Bit of progress with the tree, Added some branches and old foliage Found a commercial branch to fall on the track, Gum trees are prone to dropping branches in times of stress Added green leaves by sprinkling with flock, spray with hair spray. More flock, more hair spray. may have over done the green. still needs some paint on tree base, lots of brown at ground level. Then need to attach to CBC Base
