  1. I should have taken a photo of the wheels - they’re not bad to be honest. I don’t think the lack of open frame will be too noticeable for the reasons you’ve stated. I’d come to the same conclusion which is why I’ve gone ahead. I spotted on Grahams thread you’re going to the Stafford show? I’ll be there on Sunday helping sheepbloke if you want me to bring anything along for a proper look. Jay
  2. Gannet time! @noiseboy72 printed a couple of Gannets from the file previously talked about on here. I sent the files to @Middlepeak for perusal also and he spotted a couple of errors such as the print isn’t an open frame design like the prototype. I’ve gone ahead regardless, curious to see if a passable model can be made. So with a fresh scalpel and steady hand I’ve removed the struts from one of these tonight. Shown in the photo below, there’s still a fair amount of cleaning up to do. Also the sides have bowed inwards. I’ve encountered this on other 3D prints and some gentle bending in warm water usually does the trick. Wheels and brake levers have been printed separately and will be added once the clean up is done. Im wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for suitable buffers for these? I’ll be heading over to @cctransuk site for transfers and I’ve already sourced disc wheels from 51L. Should be a fun little project! Jay
  3. For me Summer always seems like a point where modelling takes a back seat, then as we head towards September it’s time to take stock and start planning ahead. Looks like you’ve got plenty going on there Rob, and also good to hear progress on bringing the bike back to life. Jay
  4. Crikey that’s a bit good!!! Jay
  5. In this case you’re not being a grumpy old git Tony. The internet is littered with self proclaimed ‘experts’ spanning all fields including my own profession of audio engineering. It’s incredibly frustrating to see the proliferation of people spouting misinformation knowing those seeking knowledge will receive this as being correct. Unless I’ve hit the grumpy old git stage at the age of 50! Jay
  6. The Midlands Area Group meeting which I’m organising for next September is going to be in my venue….which has a bar. Should I be concerned? Jay
  7. I wish! Gotham Curve on the Cromford & High Peak was the sharpest on British Railways with a radius of 50 meters.
  8. I’m running Middleton Top up to 1960’s BR but I’m doubtful a 9F would make Gotham Curve. Jay
  9. Also fully on board with Pressfix having tried the other types available. Good call with the masking tape. I’ve been doing this by sight. I seem to have more issues with spacing between numbers. Looking good though mate. You should probably ditch those green locos and come to the dark side. Jay
  10. Finally got round to dabbing some paint on the home signal to finish it off. Here’s a comparison to the real one. I’m attempting to let go of the slight discrepancies for now and will plonk it on the layout this week. Tempted to dig that NLR Tank chassis out and look at what needs to be done to finish off… Jay
  11. There’s definitely an ‘at speed’ photo on this page (2977) I may have seen others but Tony’s thread moves quicker than the locos he depicts. Jay
  12. Last week I was in Spain and today lying on a beach at The Gower. I gave you a wave when I passed Cardiff @NHY 581 Back to normality next week. The plan is to finish up Middleton Top and have it exhibition ready by Xmas then spend a couple of months finishing up the stock. Everything is sat in the workshop ready to go and I’m chomping at the bit to get going now!
  13. I keep meaning to revisit the Tissington Trail - it’s not far down the road from my gaff. You managed to get any further with Shallcross Nik? Jay
  14. Dodged the showers this morning and managed a few miles with the dog on the C&HPR. Here’s a few photos around Minninglow:
  15. Finally got round to making the signal for Middleton Top a working version rather than static tonight. Still need to touch some red paint onto the arm and dab some paint onto that operating rod but otherwise I’m happy with this comparing it to the photo Geraint posted on the previous page. Jay
  16. There’s a few RTR PO wagons available that are appropriate to Alsop mate.
  17. Middleton Top, Llanyblod and my entire railway collection of models and tools was successfully moved to my workshop next to Wirksworth station today. Slightly chaotic after moving five large car loads of stuff but the Top is set up and working on it will be far easier now. In the second photo is a model of Wirksworth town I’ve been asked to refresh by the Heritage Center. Should be a fun little job! Jay
  18. There seems to be an abandoned tractor at Middleton Top this morning. Jay
  19. Mornin’ Middleton Top is getting moved to my workshop this week so it can be set up in its entirety and then the final push made to get it ready for its first outing in 2024. It seems like the local farmer got wind of this information and has abandoned his tractor. Jay
