  1. Now that Hobbiton End (http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/35993-hobbiton-end/page-1) is fully developed and has appeared in the Railway modeller (September issue), it is time to reveal my next project – The Ankh Morpork Light Railway For anyone not up to speed, Ankh Morpork is the main city on the Discworld, the amazing fantasy creation of Sir Terry Pratchett. From his fantastic work, I have developed a picture of the city being typically Tudor-esque, mostly timber framed structures with the floors stepping out to use as much space as possible. Although I have really enjoyed Hobbiton End and working with 009 track and N gauge mechanisms, I have been thinking that something slightly larger would be more appropriate for this project. Having seem On30 layouts at shows, I realised it was exactly what I was looking for – large chunky stock but still narrow gauge. Anyway, the point I am up to at the moment is as follows – Track plan completed and just about finalised Track acquired Several buildings constructed Some accessories and figures prepared and painted. Some piccies - The track plan, opinions and 'constructive' comments most welcome. Some of the buildings I have built so far, they are all being detailed with lighting - The Weapons and Armour shop Garden Store The Guild of Seamstresses, otherwise known as Ladies of the Night! This house unit has been designed to have a wizards tower on the right hand end This building and workshop will be positioned at the right hand end of the layout with a siding leading out under the arch. This is the latest building I am working on, and yes, I am getting boring with making windows! Anyway, that is all for now, I will sort out and add a couple of piccies of some of the figures etc later. Best wishes Simon
  2. Is this it? http://slatford.co.uk/de_havilland_model_railway_socie.html If so, yes I do think I remember seeing it once, exhibited quite low down if I remember correctly and loved it! Been a quiet time for shows but fingers crossed for more in the South West, possibly Burnham on Sea next year. Best wishes Simon
  3. totally agree, for those who never watched it - https://www.adventuresaroundscotland.com/scotland-travel-blog/exploring-monarch-of-the-glen-country Lovely modelling once more from Allan, he will be sorely missed. Best wishes Simon
  4. thank you for all the kind comments, it is most appreciated. Alex, we are based in Somerset so the likelihood of a show your end of the country is very unlikely I am afraid. Simon
  5. interesting point Bernard, one I had no idea about but not a difficult detail to sort out, thank you for the info. Best wishes Simon
  6. ok, some piccies now sorted - Firstly a rebuilt flatbed trailer based on one of the Tomitec lorries, really need to repaint the wooden bed, not looking that good. Next is one of the oxford diecast breakdown lorries, same one as Javlinfaw7 showed above, I scratchbuilt a unit to go on the back to replace the bloomin 'orrible lump of gunk OD put on there but I have used the OD hanger and hook which is not bad - Less of a conversion and more of a post army use is this, an ex US Army lorry from a Revell 1:144 kit, I had memories of 'Darling Bubs of May' in mind when I did this. Given it a detailed load with a boat etc - Finally, the work in progress (for a long time) the simulator lorry. This is a Tomitec lorry with a scratchbuilt plastikard body and a shaped wooden block for the pod on top. Paint job fully completed and just waiting for the transfers for to finish it. I have designed the transfers for RAF Red Arrows etc to go on it but need to get them printed and added. Best wishes Simon
  7. I will need to sort and add a couple of piccies but I have bashed/scratchbuilt an N gauge lorry based simulator lorry. started with a Japanese lorry model and then went wild! Defo piccies to follow! Simon
  8. ok, found the English version, yes they are colour printed, not so impressed now. There are some models there I am tempted with but think they would need a ful repaint to ensure they blend in with the other vehicles I already have. Simon
  9. Also a shame they are pre-painted, or are they colour printed? As mentioned, a good range but pricey Simon
  10. I went out specially to get the Hornby magazine, one I rarely buy but with Oxbury in it, I could not resist! A great article with superb photographs, if you aint seen it yet, get a copy, you will not be disappointed! Best wishes Simon
  11. 6 wheel bogies sourced now - http://www.ultima-models.co.uk/catalogue/comp-bogies.html down near the bottom of the page! Best wishes Simon
  12. Love your work, I am just getting started with a Pullman rake to represent the Devon Belle, coach requirements sorted, coaches all but acquired and research all but completed. one problem though, where did you get the information about the coach roof details? cannot find anything so far. Best wishes Simon
  13. Yes there is - My layout Hobbiton End - Based in The Shire of the Hobbits of Middle Earth. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/35993-hobbiton-end/ Best wishes Simon
  14. Armoured pacer? Not sure it could shift the weight, they struggle empty at times!! Simon
  15. A really great film, thank you for posting it. Best wishes Simon
  16. Looking very good, good spot with the deflectors, I had not spotted them at all. These will be a defo for me as and when, I already have a short rake of 4 wheel scrap wagons to run them with. Best wishes Simon
  17. Oh yeah, sorry everyone, this is N gauge by the way! I am so used to sticking to N that I forgot to add it into the title, will do that in a mo. Best wishes Simon
  18. yeah this one is an easy peasy one, that if why I decided to add the double level roof for a bit of interest. As you can see in the piccies, twas a base of thick card simply clad in the plasticard and painted. card and printed paper doors to complete so far. This one is a home 'play' layout Graham I am afraid with no storage yards etc so not suitable for shows. We have a couple of ideas developing for exhibition layouts which I will let you know about as they develop. Best wishes Simon
  19. A couple of updates - More scenic work has been done around the right hand end with extra flocking etc where it was looking a little faded etc. This is Seb, layout owner and Son working on the scenics around the log cabins. We have also made a change to the area in the middle of the layout, instead of having the row of terraced houses which did not look right there, we are going to include a workshop for the museum where their collection of tanks can get serviced and restored as needed. This is the basic shell in location to test size etc Once I was happy with it, the cladding etc started - This now needs a load of finer details such as signage, guttering etc and a light weathering before installing in place. Best wishes Simon and Seb
  20. Cheltenham, hmm, thats got me thinking, aint too far to go for a day out and to get to see your masterpiece in the flesh makes it more of an option!! Best wishes Simon
  21. Any updates on this one? The PXA looks superb and I do not fancy scratchbuilding a rake of them. best wishes Simon
  22. Cheers, yes Sebbobo station is near Polpendra, around 12 feet at the moment - the other side of the log cabin! hehe, sorry couldn't resist! Anyway we have some more piccies - The church end complete with the garage in the front corner, the church is Metcalfe and the Garage from Scalescenes Here is the station area compelte with the buildings this time, this is also from Scalescenes, same source for the brick walling by the way. The large building on the top is the basis for the STM, the 'Sebbobo Tank Museum' and will be fully detailed with a variety of tracked vehicles as time allows. Along from the museum, we are putting some housing, Metcalfe row of terraced houses and a couple of semi-detached as well, these will end up being properly bedded in a detailed. We also have a little special addition as we are both 'Simpsons' fans - Moe's Tavern! Our latest building complex to be completed is the Metcalfe Brewery. It looked ok when it was made up but painting down the white corners and the edges of the roofing etc really made a massive difference, I also used strips of Scalescenes roofing to add ridge tiles to hide the top fold as well. Another little addtional scene we are developing in the other front corner is a small holiday camp complete with a couple of log cabins although these really do need legs and steps of some sort, they are floating at the moment. Anyway, that's it for now, more to follow. Best wishes Simon and Seb
  23. A few years ago a mate of mine emailed me a few piccies of a layout he had tarted up ready to sell on the run up to Christmas. He wanted to know what I though of it and estimated price etc. My answer shocked him - looks great, how much do you want for it as it would be a perfect Christmas preset for our son Seb! Anyway, wind on through a couple of years of use on his room and it has made its way out into our Log Cabin/play room/Model Making studio/thingy place and we are working over it developing the scenery etc. I was adding some scatter earlier and thought that I really ought to add piccies onto RM Web as we progress so here it is - The starting point as of this morning - Scenery basis in place, mostly polystyrene covered with plaster then painted ready for scenery. Road surfaces are card with plaster filled joints. The piccies - The left hand church end of the layout, this hill was built using chicken wire etc. The middle bit, this will have a station on the bridge across the tracks with a footbridge down to the platform. The other end, the open area in the middle is ready for the most important building of all - the Brewery! We have been working on a few buildings already which I will photograph in position and add a bit later. Best wishes andhope you like it so far. Simon
  24. Thank you for the kind comments, most appreciated. We have loved working through this project and still really enjoy the layout no that it is set up in its new home although disappointingly we have only one show booked for it at the moment - Uckfield October 20-21st this year! But the big news is that later this year we will be appearing in the Railway Modeller!! Really excited about this one Best wishes Simon
