ap[ologies for me not responding to these suggestions, got a little confused for a while with the new format (love it now though) and been caught out with real life affecting unreal life. Anyway, thanks for your kind comments about Hobbiton End Cam, most appreciated. I have been working on more structures and have the track plan finalised, cannot remember if it is on here or not yet, just looked tis on post , D'oh!! A few piccies of the latest additions to the buildings collection - Firstly, the development of a building shown in an earlier post now complete with windows, doors and roof. Secondly a well developed model of an Inn/eatery with a partially open eating area at ground level, details to be added as well as detailed interiors and lighting. Thirdly, the latest building being developed, a row of shops with accommodation above. I have just started doing the interiors as well. I got a surprise today at work with the delivery of a pair of 3D printers for us to have a play with, AWESOME!!! Best wishes Simon

You use different shades of LED lighting to get a more natural colour than simply using the white or the warm white - the white has a bluish tinge, the warm white is almost too yellowy so using them both gets a mix and works well. Best wishes Simon

Saw your layout at the show on Sunday and we were mightily impressed, the model making is excellent and the running quality superb, a joy to view. Best wishes Simon

Pretty self explanatory really but a little more info, I have a body primed ready to go and the transfers for an N gauge class 47 to go into Cotswold Rail livery but I cannot find mention anywhere of what the correct shade of paint I need to use is. I prefer enamels for locos for a smooth finish but not sure which to go for. Any help would be most appreciated. Best wishes Simon

shock of shocks, I have managed to acquire the 6 chassis I needed! Thank you all for your suggestions. best wishes Simon
-
thanks guys, as I have a large rake of these already and was planning to add these to the rake I do not really want to use peco chassis. One thought is to use the peco chassis but then to use these differently such as scrap wagons in one of the train metal trains rather than as part of the coal train. Best wishes and thanks for the input Simon

I have acquired some HEA wagon hopper body mouldings but do not have any chassis to go with them, wheels/couplings etc are easy to source but does anybody have any ideas about where I could get some of the chassis mouldings? By the way, for those unsure it is for these - https://www.osbornsmodels.com/373-508-graham-farish-46-tonne-glw-hea-hopper-mainline-2481-p.asp Best wishes and hopeful Simon

The Bridge at Remagen - N Gauge Rhine Crossing in 1944.

awesome result, well deserved!!! (should have been higher but never mind!) Best wishes Simon -
not a lot to tell, it is Chinese I think, no English on the instructions at all and to 1:110 scale allegedly. it is thin plywood and laser cut with wooden dowel for the masts and cotton for the rigging. As the layout will have a dock side at the front, some suitable ships will need to be included so the aim is to use the hull from this kit and scratch build some form of top for it. Maybe something like this - https://www.ebay.com/p/Model-Ship-Kit-by-OcCre-The-san-Juan-Felucca/841467635 I have to admit that I have my eye on one of the Merchantman ship models from Ainsty Castings for the layout though at £65 tis not cheap for a bit of scenery, but ooo tis bootiful!! https://www.ainstycastings.co.uk/product/merchantman/ Their Sloop is loverly as well! https://www.ainstycastings.co.uk/product/sloop/ Got a week off now so will be finalising the track plan and design for the timber work ready to make a start soon! Best wishes Simon

no defo wearing way too much and no baskets hehe! Simon

Whenever the layout is ready, I have promised that the first outing will be at Thorncombe, just no idea when. Best wishes simon

I have acquired a new addition for the layout arrived today - a Plywood kit for a small boat, not large scale so the top section will not be useable but my thinking is that the hull will be perfect. It is around 9 inches long and 3 inches wide. This is a screen shot of the model made up, acquired through an app called 'Wish' for £7 including postage and packing, bargain!! Now that it has arrived, I am pleased with the detail in the plywood pieces - Am now looking forward to a time when I will make it up, not sure I will start it yet as it would only go straight into a box until the layout is started. Best wishes Simon

Gaspode is awesome or do you mean Angua? She is a werewolf rather than a dog. Best wishes Simon

Flowers for 'N' Gauge.
bridgiesimon replied to Ray Von's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
beat me to it, though pricey, there is a lot in each pot so will last a very long time. Woodland scenics also do a pack with 4 colours of fine scatter for use as flowers - red. orange, white and yellow https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/T48 GreenScene also do packs of GS136 flowers and GS135 blossom http://www.green-scene.co.uk/Scatters.html Best wishes Simon -
The Bridge at Remagen - N Gauge Rhine Crossing in 1944.
bridgiesimon replied to Al.'s topic in Layout topics
Thank you, I thought I recognised them and your additional comment explains the 'leaving them to dry' etc. They are pricey little thingies but well worth it. I am working on making my own and am finding that making larger trees for my Hobbiton End layout has been way easier than trying to miniaturise the process for N gauge, still trying though. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/35993-hobbiton-end/ This is one of my favourite threads on here. Best wishes Simon -

Maybe I have missed it, read back but cannot find any mention - do you make your own trees or buy them as kits or ready done? If bought in, where from? If you make them yourself, any chance of adding a tutorial or similar? Best wishes simon -
I feel like I am the one at the back carrying all the baggage hehe!! best wishes Simon

Serious lack of updated recently, my wife has not been well for a while and has meant I have, correctly, spent time helping to get her on the road to recovery rather than model making. Now that she is defo on the right road, I am hoping that the new year will see a few developments, the plan is to actually start board construction as well as more figure figuring/building building and stock er stocking? Best wishes and happy Hogswatch!! Simon

Had a very difficult summer with Ellen, she has been really ill but we are coming out the other side of it all thankfully, one of those many issues that take precedence over model making so very little done recently. How are you? Hounslow Sidings looking really good still!! I am sure we will catch up again soon, have a great Christmas Simon
-
From what I heard, you had a lot of spare time to take piccies, a very quiet show with minimal other layouts etc. Sounded like I did not miss much, other than Hounslow sidings obviously!! Best wishes Simon

The only issue there is that D&D are a larger scale then Tom is using, 28mm scale figures are much larger than OO scale figures. I am using D&D etc for my version - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/137363-ankh-morpork-light-railway/ Yeah, I know, a lack of recent updates due to all sorts of personal/family issues but will be on the go again soon. A[pologies for the hijack there, back to this thread, I am liking what I am seeing so far, keep up the great work Tom. Best wishes and Merry Hogswatch!! Simon
