Chris - is there any chance of you re-running the b set/siphon underframes before I start hacking?

Altering the HST power car to provide a DC ETH would not be too difficult. You could just get brush to knock up a rectifier and put it into the ex luggage compartment. Then you could have both the 3 phase and normal DC, but you would have to modify the engine governor to a higher RPM for the ETH.
Not quite that easy. The train supply circuit already runs the engine up to a higher rpm idle. You also don't have that much space to play with in the back due to the emergency gear, mdec and atp.

I'd be more inclined to expect 67/mk2 sets appearing in the south west to cover the cracks.
Don't let me stop the wild speculation though.

Class 800 sets 800002 and 800004 carried out three nights of testing this week between North Pole and Bristol Temple Meads.
Virgin coloured 002 standards on Platform 9 at Temple Meads, on Friday 02nd September 2016.
002 is in hitachi house colours - 058 is in virgin Azusa colours.

Fgw were looking into using them as push/pull or LHCS, but plans may have changed since I moved on.

Looking out of the window on the stretch Westerleigh to Bristol Parkway this week, overbridges (not many) and signalling cable troughs all look about there, but most of this stretch is on high embankments and viaducts, and it's hard to detect any work at all on the mast foundations. The hitachi depot west of BPW looks ready, fully wired, but there'll be a long wait before any sets get there under their own steam, so to speak.
They currently run under diesel. I believe they are short of a substation.

Having indulged in a peckett at rail wells I may have my arm twisted into a victory too. So much for down scaling.

This morning as I drove along Old Oak Lane the Virgin azuma was parked up and in the siding over the bridge and they appeared to be unloading sand bags from the train into the cess
Test sets are running on full load. It's off to Bristol tonight.

<mess room joke> What like the IEP/AT300s which are British built because there is a plant up Newton Aycliffe way which bolts the handrails on! <mess room joke>
They are welded into the body shell, try again

The catering on t1 and t2 is ridiculous, there are pubs and cafes with less luxurious catering facilities!

800/801 doesn't equate to 5/9 car sets.
Class 800, 801 & 802 all come in 5 and 9 car versions.
Ron
I'm sat looking at my training book, obviously it is subject to change.
800 - five car bimode
801 - nine car electric
-
Five and nine car sets, 800/801 respectively.

I hope the door reveals and handle recesses will be painted in the coming weeks. I wonder if wrapping rather than painting means that gwr are likely to pass on the franchise?
-
I wonder if the new livery will make it work better?
There has been a lot of standardisation done I believe, 150 fuel tanks etc. I understand however that the differences between both 150/0's means they cannot share the same safety case/method of work however.
* I am willing to be corrected, I last saw underneath a sprinter two months ago. Long live the 800!

Is this group better off in the continental sector aince there's at least half a dozen Spanish threads within the different bits?
-
Find some photos or ask a pres group for a better look? (Email a pres group and ask if it matches for size)Hum hadden't thought of that one! How do I check! It's a long time since I heard one peeping at TM as it whirled past
Possibly not though if this listing is correct

And finely from a now dead ex fitter at bath road one whistle ! But from what? It's not a standard gwr fitting and is a bit small single note five inch long by two and a half inch wide
Sounds like an 08 whistle to me fella.

How do you test any systems related to the overhead?
Plus it's quieter and cleaner for the neighbours.

ahhh hello new job - roll on June and a chance to get hands on with an 800!

I was lost for part 9. Cheers Chris - time to go and make holes with the rsu!

Has anyone got a copy of the instructions for 2-384 peco tank underframe they can send me please? Between not being able to find these and trying to sort an under etched toad I'm ready to head back to p4!

Yup, we do our PTS assessments there. The driving school covers a lot of third rail lines - it's a lot quicker to walk to the wheel lathe rather than the south coast to practice with the shorting bars and track circuit clips.
I also assume if we turned something third rail you could set up the pick up shoe? (It's not for the mule, they use the yellow bars in the four foot)

I suspect that they are for GWR. the initial cascades sets are undergoing testing now and should be in revenue traffic by September from memory.
