  1. Coal yards I've seen were very fond of the Weatherill Hydraulic shovel . These were made from early 1950s so would have come down the food chain to coal yards by the 1960s . There were two very common types one with a rear cab and one with a central cab . Both made by Matchbox in 1-75 range and King Size respectively but neither to 1.76 unfortunately. I think the Dapol JCB would fit ok with a box counterweight on the back , they were made from 1960 on so could be well secondhand by late 1960s.
  2. Ebay is your friend for the 1.87 stuff ! Also usually 'old stuff under table' at model rail show stands.
  3. The Scania is an 8 wheeler so not only are modern trucks bigger it is also a bigger truck and has a much bigger drum than a sixties six wheeler . Herpa / Kibri/ Wiking 1.87 drums from 6 wheel modern trucks fit 1.76 sixties trucks fine as the increase in modern truck mixer size is offset by the decrease in scale . Many sixties mixer trucks carried an independent diesel engine behind cab ( usually Fordson Major type) to drive mixer and this also reduced drum size. http://www.transportphotos.com/road/photo/HuL1081 http://www.transportphotos.com/road/photo/HuK0726 http://www.transportphotos.com/road/photo/CX00192
  4. Some great models there Merf , did BR actually use the (Airfix) Thornycroft RAF Amazon crane ?
  5. Archetypal cement mixer truck from the 1960's would be a 6 wheeler Foden or an an Albion with the LAD cab . RMC used hundreds of bright orange Albion Reivers with the LAD cab for many years. Six wheel Thames Traders were also popular mixers in the late fifties early sixties. Strange no ones got on to making an out of the box one yet as they were always very popular in the old Matchbox range. I found an old (ebay) Kibri HO mixer body sits well on the OO guage Base toys .
  6. That is a coincidence, fairly sure its a Bedford at Market Weighton ,does the lower writing on the body side say North Eastern Region?
  7. Whats this then Merf , at start of nice little film about Market Weighton station 1965. http://www.yfaonline.com/assetDetails.cfm?film=983&keyword=RAILWAY%20STATION&fromSearchValue=fromKeyword&start=1
  8. Nice pic , see shed in background is the ' Road Motors Engineering Dept'
  9. Heres a pic of a 1988 UK Hino tipper , looking well battered at 3 years old! http://www.hvri.org/...l?pid=735539237
  10. These look interesting. These Hinos were reasonably popular in UK 1980s / 90s especially in construction , users liked the quality but not the heavy unladen weight. Must finish off my Leyland LAD mixer that's sat on the shelf -
  11. Ah I see I didn't realise the panels were steel sheet , your second photo shows how this rusts away . I wonder if this is why you don't see many BR box/ parcel/egineers vans of any type in preservation considering how massive the fleet was.
  12. Its a great site Travellers homes for all sorts of trucks. Its nice to see the fg in Bournemouth ,lets hope it survives. I wonder if any other FG crewbuses survive ? never seen one on a rally field---yet!
  13. Thanks Merf, My last few posts don't read well because by some computer quirk my work comp won't let me edit anything, suppose I could always log on at home
  14. Show my railway ignorance here but what exact years were the 'blue era'? In the interesting articles about runnning the BR fleet of vehicles in Vintage Roadscene the author mentions there was absolute hell on when he bought Unimog road railers because at the time every vehicle in the fleet was British . He was called into the Parliament to explain./ ( as were all government bought vehicles , those were the days when you could equip a massive varied commercial fleet with all British vehicles!)
  15. Pathe View Stills a great function................ Pathe View Stills a great function................

  17. Thanks for crane link Merf also some good pics of Guy and Seddon etc artics on the Freightliner section of Paul Bartlet site. Some run of the mill yellow stuff ;- Dodge Renault dropside Northampton Marina Van Crewe TMD Dodge with Hi-Lux Thornaby TMD Few 90s Freightliner Fodens on trucknet http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=45394&p=513938&hilit=FREIGHTLINER#p513938
  18. Like the picture of the Thames Trader jumbo crane , wonder why they altered it to single rear wheels? On the same site theirs a Neals crane - is it BR ? -
  19. Well you are talking travelling in BR road vehicles so don't think you are too far out
  20. Good find once I worked out they were on the post 20 video! Lots of vehicles come in at 13 mins for the impatient like me
  21. Funnily enough most of the rigid trucks I see have the lifting trailing axle at the rear, however just being googling 6x2 and their's a mix of both types around with DAF looking like they made both types off the shelf.
  22. Is this truck still on the go then ? its quite interesting as the dead 'tag ' axle is in front of the drive axle instead of behind as they are usually on rigids. I wonder if its being made up from a 6x2 tractor unit . Think the pic with the truck and 4 locos in shot is a cracker. Thanks for posting both.
  23. Thanks Merf , Actually think the DAF is a bit modern might change it for NCL Seddon Atkinson Nice models , how do you do your transfers ? Spotted a lot of Freightliner Trucks in my neck of the woods lately , they have a depot at nearby Wilton , don't know wether they've just started using their own trucks. Also regularly see an old E reg ERF ex Freightliner tractor unit pulling containers on way to work, unchanged except for sign writing. Trying to photo it but bloody hard when driving !
  24. Without a doubt ! quite an early one I think.
  25. Merf -Are the big circles on top front of the TK vents ?
