  3. Nice Bedford colour pic Chard. I've kept away from Scarab pics in the past because I thought they were too common but plenty here , dozens of 'em in a series of pics at Sighthill Rail Freight Terminal in Glasgow along with Austin Loadstars. http://urbanglasgow.co.uk/archive/sighthill-springburn__o_t__t_1204.html

  6. A brief glimpse in the gritty British film British Payroll , but what is it? All of film on You Tube loads of vehicles in 1961 Newcastle but sadly no BR except this. This is the link- Payroll 2/11 8mins 17 secs if your quick on the buzzer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpFPsQybjcE
  7. Possibly engines only , always thought whole thing was Gradall but maybe they bought in the chassis like as you say the Brit crane makers, these things very popular in USA but never seemed to take off here ,perhaps they have more 'grade seperated interchanges ' They remain in production , little changed see link- http://www.marketbook.co.uk/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=7584565&LP=MAT&
  8. I think the whole thing was American , very popular in the USA . Note lhd
  9. Something different a BR NE Region American Gradall truck mounted excavator ( This you tube vid has a lot of good shots of early 50s British plant at work at the start 3.0-7.0min) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tbv3u06Sq2M
  10. Good find , great pic of a 'weathered' Thornycroft

  12. Thanks for info Merf.Might see if Dodge is still there as close to me. Being catching up on the flickr pictures, like the atmospheric Billingsgate one , is that a blue Vulcan in centre ? and also the Doncaster one , plenty of yellow vehicles and rail wagons full of Doncaster built International tractors. Think i've found a pic of the elusive British Rail MK1 Escort van, watch this space !
  13. In this very recent pic of Thornaby yard there is an older type crewbus lurking on the left with EWS?, Dodge ? http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/38452-thornaby-tmd-no-more
  14. Yes definetly a Bedford with Hawson body and they performed the same function as the BRS noddy vans ,door to door deliveries, with walk through cabs. Love watching the Sweeney is this the one ? http://imcdb.org/vehicle_74416-Bedford-J2.html
  15. Looking in Smiths magazine library , this months Steam Days has a colour pic of a green FG crewbus at Micheldelver. Have a real picture of the AA Seddon in one of my books and even more convinced the mystery mechanical horse is one. The box art on the budgie model is a lot more realistic than the actual model inside !!. -
  16. Hi Adam Didn't word my post very well but in mag pic you can see a Loadstar and a Fordson ET6. The Commer BF panel van in yellow interested me because I've only seen red/cream ones previously.
  17. 1. Ford A series -in the book 'Rail Centres Bristol' by Colin Maggs ( buttons on Amazon 2nd hand) there is a picture of a line of six Commer/Dodge walk thrus (newest T reg so 1979 on)and in the middle is a Ford A series box van looks like P reg, all in Parcel Express livery. I'll try and PM a scan Merf 2. In this months 'Steam Days'mag there is a picture of Yeovil with a yellow liveried Commer BF van in the background.(and ET6/Loadstar in red/cream. 3. The mystery mechanical horse, gut feeling only but it looks a bit like a Seddon to me like this- http://truck-photos.net.s3.amazonaws.com/3399.jpg Reminds of the Budgietoys AA Mobile Control room based on a real vehicle but diferent cab detail.
  18. Scuse my lack of knowledge, but what and where is the 'Road Vehicle Group'?
  19. Which sections that in Merf? Sounds like some good flickr finds , but can't view them on 9-5 computer look forward to seeing them toight Ford A series , sure they've been mentioned before. Seen a Ford A Rail Express Parcels box van at Temple Meads in a book pic , first for me.
  20. Some sightings - Commer rail express vans and Class 03 at Lowestoft http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2312569 CF and ? artic at Portobello http://www.railbrit.co.uk/imageenlarge/imagecomplete2.php?id=5936 TK at Thurso Busy goods yard Maldon 1958 Bedfords and Scammells and one of them little Hyster mobile cranes Leyland Cub staff bus Margam 1987 Distant NCL Ford D at Penzance http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1215918
  21. Nice find the J van , I wonder if pic is slightly earlier than 1968 . some more finds-distant sadly and scroll down for some- Leyland dropside/hiab at Doncaster http://www.2d53.co.uk/Class%2024s/Departmentals.htm - FG s and TK s with Freightliner container and others at Bangor http://www.2d53.co.uk/bangor/freight.htm http://www.2d53.co.uk/bangor/The%20Yard.htm
  22. Good flickr finds Merf , looks like you've been putting some time in on the interweb Paul 'Today is tommorows history' I ‘ve started taking pics of British trucks I see for this very reason , This is probably the last decade when working British trucks are still a common sight . Now we have no manufacturers . Fodens , ERF ‘s, Leyland Dafs and the odd pure Leyland on the road now but they’re thinning out fast.
  23. This parcel trailer at Driffield looks exceptionally small, could it be a Jen Tug trailer in 1968? http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/d/driffield/index13.shtml
  24. Good finds with the flickr pictures Merf , never seen a Thames ET6 with the yellow livery before.
  25. Interesting stuff about the Scarabs , in my town it was Bantams then Ford D's but there was no difficult access. You don't see many pictures of the Ford D mini artics so assume they weren't so common? Came across this interesting site the other day with br parcel vans - anyone know anything about the BR Bedford 'Flying Pigs' parcel vans , new to me. http://www.roadtransport.com/blogs/big-lorry-blog/2011/03/heres-one-i-drove-earlier-just.html
