  1. I'm just about to install a Peco electrofrog double slip and wanted to know if I need to modify it in any way to make it more reliable (as with their other turnouts) ? Thanks Pete
  2. Perhaps that provides a reason (excuse?) to add a home signal? Plus a shunt signal from the sidings (I used a colour light signal on the plan for want of anything better):
  3. I may have to change the plan slightly as I purchased a backscene and it's slightly shorter than my backscene boards (left, back and right), so to get it to fit, I will curve it in slightly at both corners (that will hopefully look better anyway). However, this means the track top left will hit it at an angle, so I may change that track to be a siding and have the lower left-hand track be the running line, like so:
  4. The baseboard has a 1 inch layer of blue craftfoam on it, which I've sealed with wood glue. I will be doing some minor work on it, such as a sinking in a drainage ditch and maybe adding a slight incline towards the back, but there isn't much room round the trackwork to be honest.
  5. First coat of paint applied this evening - I won't bore you with a pic as I will do a second coat tomorrow.
  6. Still waiting for the glue to dry. It's nearly as bad as watching paint dry, which I will be doing tomorrow evening as the grey paint is due to arrive tomorrow morning
  7. Sanded the edging down again today, then poured a couple of lites of PCA onto the craftfoam to seal it in. Will take a couple of days to dry. Had to order some more grey paint, so once that's here, I can paint it all a nice slate grey colour. Fortunately it's still really light to carry, even with the extra wood (albeit 5.5mm ply).
  8. I now have a nice exit hole in the sidescene (unfortunately I need to raise the height of it a little as two steam locos don't fit through it!). And I fitted a length of quadrant beading along the front edge - just to finish off the front (please ignore the wood filler - that will be sanded down tomorrow):
  9. Yeah easier now than later - thanks.
  10. Backscene ply cut and screwed onto the baseboard. I didn't want it too high, so it's 23cm (the visible section above the baseboard). Just wondering whether to cut a hole for a train to enter on the right-hand side, but as this is a temp layout and just for shunting, I don't think I will.
  11. Nothing doing on the layout since the last update, but I did buy some ply for the backscene Friday and will cut that into sections later today, all being well.
  12. I will take better quality shots as I progress
  13. Managed to get the track cut and roughly placed into position this evening. The first two shots are from last August when I made the baseboard (ladder frame with craftfoam inlay - very lightweight - I can lift this with one hand):
  14. I think I have all the routes covered now!
  15. I assume tracks are easier to lay like that in real life and use less land, but as you say, not necessarily as pleasing to the eye of a modeller! The board is already built, I just need to get some ply for the backscene (hopefully today), so I can't curve the front.
  16. Right, more ideas. This is just to put the sidings into context, so the following pic is what I will model: And this is the site in full view. The lines merge into one off to the right (not shown):
  17. It is looking a bit crowded I have my turnouts now, so will loosely lay some track and see how it looks in the flesh.
