  1. You are correct they should be, the stays should also be higher up and the one on the right should be further in then the one on the left.
  2. As suspected the handrails just aren't correct and I cannot accept that having spent such a lot of time putting the model together. I will be redoing them after mulling it over and having spoken to others about how they should be.
  3. Ladder grab rails on. Not sure how realistic they are but its the best I can get them. My least favourite bit of the kit so far.
  4. Standard iron. There's nothing I needed an RSU for so far. Although I do want one eventually as building other kits with lots of tiny detail bits and overlays they would be very helpful.
  5. Yes they sprung and come pre assembled which is nice. Have a nut on the back too, which is far more desirable then soldering wire to them in my opinion.
  6. Thanks Paul. Its definitely complex but will turn into a well detailed model. Got all the brakes and under carriage pipework etc. to do still and get the wheels on.
  7. Vac cylinders, buffers, coupling plates, brake balance levers and the ladder now all fitted. I'm going against the instructions and leaving the couplings till last
  8. Bit more done tonight. Buffers, couplings etc. next
  9. I've got some rollers but haven't had them long/ or used them so didn't want my first practice to be on a kit! I ended up just forming it by gently bending to suit.
  10. Thanks. The roof was a bit of a challenge but happy with result
  11. After a few hours work. We have the roof on, bottom on and ribs finished.
  12. After completing the ribs on both sides, I've done one of the sets of end ribs. This was a lot more fiddly, due to matching them up with the sides, needing to slightly bend and file on the inside to fit around the change in angle on the hopper and the horizontals not having locating slots. I am happy with the result though!
  13. Thanks. I prefer kit built as I like to have "done it myself". And rtr are never going to be bespoke, metal models.
  14. First side of ribs done, got the same for the side and the two ends next. Its slow going.
  15. So i want a butterly built (yellow) presflo. Already started, so far its a good kit with everything in the box bar the paint. My next job is to solder all of the ribs on.
  16. Starting to really see the detail now.
  17. After a long night, building has come to an end perse. Quick test drive tomorrow, then onto disassembly and cleaning, filling/ priming
  18. The cab detail is made up. Just got some handrails left. Might get to start painting it up next week.
  19. Making good progress, the middle set of bearings/ horn guides need adjusting as the axle isn't straight. Im not sure but the frames look slightly out of square but they're OK when I check them with a set square
  20. Horn blocks soldered in and started putting the spacers in tonight. When using horn blocks, its necessary to file a notch in spacer 'D' both sides, to fit around them.
  21. So its begun. Tender first, cut out for the horn blocks and started fitting the first one. I've never fitted horn blocks before so had to read carefully how to go about it.
  22. Tonight I fitted the wheels and axle boxes, ballast boxes and started making up the brass bar for the correct profile veranda posts.
  23. Supplies arrived today so back on it tonight.
  24. That's the steps finished other than a final tidy up. Just 3 lamps left to do, cab detail and the couplings then I can do test fit and paint.
