"Hawkesbury" - the engine shed area is no more.....
Adrian Stevenson replied to halsey's topic in Layout & Track Design
I watched a You Tube video a few weeks ago about track cleaning and IPA is actually the problem. It contains water. The solution is not to use it anymore and go to using electrical contact cleaner. I have never used IPA, only an old school Peco track rubber. But having watched the video I have just bought a can of WD40 brand contact cleaner to try. Hope this helps? Cheers, Ade. -
That looks really good.

Looking good. Will you be weathering it once your degree is out of the way? Cheers, Ade. -

The new bigger 8 ohm speaker has arrived for the A3 and is now fitted. I want to have a go at altering some CV's of the sounds to make one or two a bit louder. Once I have done that, (Never tried this before!) I will get Lez to do a little video. This afternoon I decided to paint the baseboard legs the same colour as the cabin to tie the colour scheme together. Got all 14 painted back and front. The next big project is adding a 3m x 3m decking to the front of the cabin to provide a seating area and that is arriving on Tuesday. So busy times as ever. Cheers, Ade. -
Have a look at your model. There is already a hook there, no need to add or remove anything if you are using three link couplings or screw link couplings. It is partly hidden by the corridor connection. Hope this helps? Cheers, Ade.

I am an O Gauge guy, but I have just fitted a Locoman chip to my Dapol Terrier. I realise there will be a difference in sound due to speaker size, but if it is helpful have a look at this short video of my loco demonstrating some of the sounds. Not connection, just a satisfied customer. Cheers, Ade.

Forgot to reply re the coupling on the tender. As well as the cosmetic knuckle coupling there is a standard hook.

I did away with those tiny and almost useless folded over brass lugs on the fallplate after one came off. I removed the other one and replaced them with longer ones made from steel and simply glued in place. Much easier now to locate and stay in place. The seat you can just glue back into place. Cheers, Ade.

Had a productive day yesterday and made a start on the final baseboard, No 4. The design of this had not been finalised until yesterday after some measurements had been taken. The final scenic board will add another two feet to the layout. This will allow the mainline to cross a bridge over the river Avon and disappear into the tunnel as per the prototype. Because of the amount of compression to the scene, I will have to lose the distant signal and just have the home signal. The board will go off at an angle to the other boards to allow the track to then run parallel to the cabin wall. As readers of my thread will know, I had not made up my mind on the fiddle yard. Now the last board has been designed and some measurements taken, I can now have a 4 track traverser with each track five foot in length. This will taken the longest loco the A3 plus two carriages. This traverser will allow through running out of the cabin into the garden for the proposed 40 foot garden line. Also it will not impinge into the doorway when rolled out. So I have got the 9mm plywood cut to size and the baseboard legs. Just need to buy some 4 x 1 for making the framework. But this will have to wait till payday. Cheers, Ade. -

Hi Ray, you can obtain them direct from Alex "Locoman" here: https://locomansounds.com/ No connection just a satisfied customer. Not had a go a syncing the chuffs yet. I used a Rail Exclusive "Boom Box" speaker and a Digitrains stayalive. Cheers, Ade. -
You had done a nice job.

Thanks as always! Just fitted a new sound chip by Locoman to the Dapol Terrier over the weekend. I am very impressed with the range of sounds it produces. Also fitted with a Digitrains stay alive like the Panniers. Again a rule 1 loco really for the garden line. Not much movement on the video, more a demo for the sounds. The A3 has also now been sound fitted with a Locoman chip. But I am awaiting a bigger speaker. Cheers, Ade. -

Now got the underframes finished for the branch set and couplings fitted. Given them a test run shown here in this 30 second video. They could do with a bit more weight added I think. I need to obtain some lead flashing. But I am happy with them. The roofs need finishing now. Cheers, Ade. -
Nice work and glad you cat is getting better.

What is the best dcc controller?
Adrian Stevenson replied to Milo T.K's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
I have a Signa-Trak and find it very easy to use. I have the basic touch screen controller plus a hand set. Like others have said, it all depends what you are looking for. Cheers, Ade. -
I actually work for a well known auction house in Derbyshire. Been with them 5 years. See my photo. Before I worked there I thought the charges were a rip off. But our overheads are high. We use the Saleroom but now have got our own online bidding platform which is cheaper to use. My advice is always ask for a "Condition report" on the items you are interested in. Do this in plenty of time before the sale starts. Asking on the morning of the sale is really too late. I will something email a client back with an answer to their question/s or if I feel I can explain in better detail in a conversation I will phone them. Ask for extra images too, but be specific with what you want photographed. Bear in mind the person doing this might not be the relevant specialist valuer but a general saleroom assistant. Re testing of items: I have never seen this done at our place I must admit. We don't have in house track or controllers set up. Hope this is of interest and help? Cheers, Ade.
