  1. The underframes are now all primed up. Cheers, Ade.
  2. Hi Martin, sorry to hear you have been so poorly. I was only re-reading your thread on your garden line thread the other night for inspiration for my own proposed build. Take care and get well soon! Cheers, Ade.
  3. They simply look real, which I think is the highest compliment one can give. Outstanding work as ever. Cheers, Ade.
  4. Topless modelling....

It's warm in the shed :D

  5. Hi David, I think either base colour would work fine. A couple of coats will cover no problem. I bought a green one as it was on offer. I chose No 12 as I am modelling the Malmesbury branch line where this loco was trialled. Cheers, Ade.
  6. Hi Colin, that is a cunning plan! Ends were black on both liveries. Cheers, Ade.
  7. Very helpful and informative, thanks! Cheers, Ade.
  8. Thanks G. I will take a look. A few pics from tonight's running session featuring the Pannier tanks. Cheers, Ade.
  9. Hi G, I think the late 1920's chocolate and cream livery , but I am still tempted by Lake, given that the Malmesbury line branch set were still wearing it in 1930/31. They got repainted in chocolate and cream and then with a few years they were gone being replaced by the B set. Cheers, Ade.
  10. Thanks Gerry. Today I got the first chassis completed and sprayed up in grey primer. The wheel rims and buffers are masked off with Maskol. Cheers, Ade.
  11. I will be following the 517 build with interest as I intend doing one of these at some point. Cheers, Ade.
  12. Hi Rob, I would agree with Simon and Ian. I have two Dapol 57xx's and one Dapol/Lionheart 64xx. Never had any issues and they are great locos. I am awaiting the sound fitted 58xx. Cheers, Ade.
  13. Been back to working on the GWR 4 wheel carriages. Seats are now painted up and ready to install once the interiors are painted. Lots more detail has been added to the underframes but more remains to be done, this week should see them finished with a bit of luck. The bodies are now sprayed up in primer. Cheers, Ade.
  14. Al is correct. Here is a link to the video: Cheers, Ade.
  15. Been a quite week on the modelling front. But the early pattern drain cocks are now fitted to the A3's cylinders. The original ones came off very easily. Opened up the holes with the pin vice drill and filed the new brass castings to fit and then glued in place. Cheers, Ade.
  16. Hi George, looking good. How has the build gone? Has it been straightforwards? Cheers, Ade.
  17. Finished work on Thursday and managed to get the light unit fitted. We had our social distanced VE Day 75 street party on Friday, then yesterday we had another small celebration for our Russian friend's May 9th Victory Day. So finally got some pictures done. I added some coal to the tender and have also made some guard irons from brass and fitted these today. I have also ordered some early style cylinder drain cocks from Laurie Griffin. Cheers, Ade.
  18. Hi Peter, thanks, I will look forwards to the video. Cheers, Ade.
  19. Which sound chip did you use? I want to get my A3 done.
  20. Hi Peter, they look very nice indeed. Take the spring off the pony truck. My A3 has the same problem but only on points in reverse. This cured it. Cheers, Ade.
  21. Hi Guys, thanks for the comments. I decided to add to glowing firebox to the A3 tonight. Having seen what others have done, I thought that I would have a go. I had noticed that others had opened up the whole oval moulding on the firebox, which is not quite right. The oval moulding of the firebox door does not represent what actually opens. The door hinges open but only half way from what I have seen on images of the real thing. So first I took off the cab and then drilled a few holes in the firebox door and preceded to open these up with a file. I then cut a door from some scrap brass and soldered on a brass rod to represent the hinge. This was then glued into place. I have a glowing firebox kit coming from Train Tec which will fit behind the firebox door. I thought this would be an easier option that hard wiring one in, as I have yet to DCC sound chip the loco. Cheers, Ade.
  22. Hi Tom, I asked the same question. You can get them here: https://www.lgminiatures.co.uk/product/10-005-lner-gresley-locomotives-a1a3a4p1-etc/ No connection to the company. Hope this helps? Cheers, Ade.
