  1. I read the last post and was wondering how on earth a model could be 7.5" shorter - but Google and Wiki put me right. The LMS Garratt was 7.5" longer than the U1, which I admit surprised me! At least the U1 was 30 tons heavier!! Both fascinating models. Al.
  2. That was quite a fair question to ask, and thanks for the reply! I suppose my poor garage will be in a similar situation - finding an appropriate space for storage! Next will be what length of train I can realistically run on my own layout - won't remotely approach scale operation, but could be fun!! Al.
  3. Has the body removal 'issue' of the H66 been resolved? This was one of the 2 major issues of the H66. 1 was the rotating axle boxes issue - the video looks great, and Dapol had no problems with their 59. The other was the high probability of 'collateral damage' any time the body needed to be removed - steps, etc. Thanks, Al.
  4. As I said in a previous post ..... no, I won't!! There's obviously been some excellent progress - I've lifted out my old H66 in anticipation, still running very well (with the odd little wobble .. !!). Al.
  5. I'm hoping to be a 'proud recipient' of one of these, when they're finally available. I'm currently busy looking for extra squirrels to help me! Don't want to miss out. Al.
  6. This was much better, and entertaining than I had expected. Alisha came across as a very pleasant person - no reason why not, but no element of 'chip on shoulder' or anything - really good video. Thanks for sharing. Al.
  7. Hornby lack of crank throw annoys me a lot. With the plastic-centred older wheels this can be lightly 'tweaked'. The other way is to slightly adjust the profile of the crank, to increase / decrease the throw that way. Al.
  8. Any update? Still 'due Q2 2024'? Al.
  9. Will this have an operational fan as well as the Class 31? Can this be switched on/off via dip switch settings on the DC only versions? Al.
  10. I have so much 'pre-ordered' gear that I just couldn't, but these look absolutely fantastic!! Wonderful job, and that's just from the impression given - no idea what the actual locomotive was like, but I'm sure it'll be pretty close! Al.
  11. Was a 50 ever in Thomas the Tank engine? Probably too new? Al.
  12. Funny, but just to clarify, as a question is Evening Star included in the 1st shipment, anticipated sometime very soon ... please? Thanks, Al.
  13. Looking very fine indeed - nice job, comments above excepted. Will the fan be 'dip switch operational' as the Class 31? Al.
  14. Like the 1:1 will have the odd tub of grease on them, a little drop or 3 of oil would work wonders on these too! It was only in jest - smile! Al.
  15. Just that extra step which A/S take to making things look more realistic I reckon! How many 1:1 coupling have you seen in absolutely pristine condition, and over years ... 🙂 ? Al.
  16. +1 on Pmorgancym. Operation of model locomotives is a 'mutual understanding' between the design, and the operator. If it runs on a little, like with a built in stay alive for DC operation, it's little more than an exaggerated flywheel effect, but it could assist greatly in running small wheelbase locomotives over points at 'prototypical speeds', not sped up to compensate for lack of pickup. Al.
  17. Is the nail not restricting movement in the reverse direction? I find the main issues with kinematic coupling being simply to ensure free and smooth movement, and also to match the tension lock 'hook' dimensions as closely as possible - there are a huge number of very slight variations which can throw this operation off at times. Al.
  18. Just seen the latest update on this 2nd run project for the Deltic 55 - Q3 anticipated now. Thanks for keeping us all in the loop - news always available on the A/Scale site updates section. Al.
