  1. Hello, Just to say Replica produced sets of the long frame MK1 suburbans in green and maroon/crimson, I think they may still be available as kits (in the sense of clip together parts). Dave
  2. David, Thanks for all the superb pictures and for taking the time to post them, this topic is always my first port of call when I look at RMWEB ! Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but if the photograph in JVol4051 is taken from the GN viaduct then the junction in the picture is actually Bennerley Junction which existed until relatively recently and was latterly the junction for an opencast loading plant but was originally the junction for the line to Nottingham via Watnall. Ilkeston Junction is a mile or so further south. Again, thanks for all the great pictures and hope this information is useful. Dave
  3. The Brighton Belle is a Wrenn creation not Hornby Dublo, perhaps confusing it with the suburban EMU ? Dave
  4. Hello, Marylebone was the last London terminus (I think !) to be resignalled in 1990/1, that must be up there with the last major stations to have mechanical signalling I suppose. Dave
  5. Hello, I remember as a very young child being very impressed with the detail and printing on a Mainline blue/grey MK1 RB from the early '80s when compared to the Hornby coaches I owned. I think that Mainline, and to a slightly lesser degree Airfix, were the "game changers". It took Hornby 20+ years and a move to China to catch up to their standards I think. Dave
  6. Hello Thanks for the reply and Information. I thought it might have been something like that for PW staff etc but I've not seen anything like it before. Thanks Dave
  7. Hello, Great photo's as ever, thanks for all your effort in providing us all with such great shots. Out of interest, what's the light blue coloured box for on the pole in C1964 for, does anyone know please ? Dave
  8. Hello, I think that EFE only distribute models they don't actually produce them, therefore when Arran said they had not licensed EFE to use their tools this would be factually correct but that all is above board, ie Realtrack produce the model, EFE only distribute the product. Dave
  9. Hello, It's a Graham Farish King, they also made some others in OO such as the Black 5. I think the motors are virtually unusable ! Dave
  10. I think it's a Parkside (now Peco) kit. Dave
  11. Hello, Could it be a REX kit ? They had clear perspex sides with cast chassis. They turn up quite often on eBay. Dave
  12. Peter, Gunns Toy Fair in Ilkeston was the definite highlight of my year and was at the Rutland Hotel when I remember it. I still remember the year I wanted the Hornby operating mail set that was in the catalogue but not yet available, Gunns actually put together the individual components for me. One year, they left the small layout from the toy fair with the owners of the Rutland Hotel and it was given to me as I knew the landlords son, happy days ! I still have the H&M Duette from that layout at the club somewhere. Do you remember Thorpes in Ilkeston that sold lots of model railway stuff, including Hornby Minitrix, and also Goodwins that had sold Hornby Dublo but many years previously (I also knew the owners of that shop and they gave me some residual Dublo stuff when I was a child years after Dublo had disappeared.). Thorpes is still there but I assume no longer sells model railways, I do remember buying loads of brand new Triang super 4 track that they found in their storerooms in the early '80s. There was also a shop that sold double glazing, kitchens and Lima (!) at the bottom of Bath Street in the middle-late '80s. Dave
  13. Hello, Thanks for your reply and interest and research on this. This link mentions a brick yard linked to at least the colliery company, - http://www.dmm.org.uk/company/c1019.htm The word on the door has been bothering me too, I wonder if it could be BLOCKS or that the wording on that level is COAL BRICKS. BRICKS. The location is interesting too since there was a LMS station in Aylesbury at the time and the route from Ilkeston Junction to the GC line would be a bit convoluted, unless of course the ultimate destination was elsewhere on the LNER, Metropolitan or GWR. I'm sorry but I don't know the full provenance of the photograph. Some years ago, I discussed producing a wagon in Cossall livery with a local model shop but I couldn't remember where I'd seen a photograph. It was only when my kids (unruly toddlers !) randomly grabbed some old magazines from somewhere that I saw this photograph. Dave
  14. Hello, I'm 99% certain that it's Cossall as everything fits, ie a colliery with a brick yard near Nottingham. The spelling of the text we can see (SSALL) is uncommon and the part of the wagon we can't see seems the right size for 2 letters. in addition, I can't can't find any other name like it in the Nottingham area (although that could be due to incompetence !). Also, I'm pretty sure that I've seen another photograph years ago of a similar wagon lurking in the background but sadly can't remember where. Dave
  15. Hello The photograph was taken by H C Casserley in 1936 at Aylesbury. I've been searching for photographs of these wagons for years and also have a niggling feeling that I'd seen another some years ago. The kids had dragged some of my old magazines out so it was very fortunate that I noticed this one ! Dave
