  1. While "serious" modellers might like to keep the track radius realistic, there's plenty of us who are forced to use R2 track either because that's what comes boxed in some trainsets or due to space requirements. When making an oval loop the width required for a R3 layout is so much greater than R2, I didn't want to use an R2 radius myself for my layout but my inner loop demands it because of space restrictions.
  2. But is your car a train
  3. Certainly a lot of doom mongering & people not understanding who the market is for this range. I'm 27 but I've been "modelling" since I was a tiny boy, this suits me perfectly because: Smaller than OO Gauge (which what I currently model) means I can fit more into the same space - perfect as I dislike the size of N-gauge & 00 really is just too big for a proper layout Cheaper (so far) than OO gauge, I'm fine with railroad less detail models as long as the price matches, I want a locomotive thats broadly representative I really dont care about accuracy International standard, means I can model railrays from around the globe potentially on the same scale, no mix and matching HO with OO etc What I would like to see, as other commenters have pointed out, is snap track to put together and take layouts apart much easier than sodding individual fishplates. I mostly model GWR so once I see the Castle out (and any tank engines like Panniers or Prairies) then I'll be jumping in. I completley see this as a range targeted at new-comers to the hobby & for families with the train sets, or for those like me who want something between 00 & N, I do not see it in the slightest as a competitor to 00 & nor should it be.
  4. Funnily enough I was actually looking at those! Looks ideal to form the bridge top section, I've found some legs but they're not the right size... Wonder if I could cut them down I've taken a look now at your reccomendation, one of my issues is I'm not sure what to be searching for! I'm usually putting truss, bridge, viaduct, span etc into the search bar. Something like this (but in OO / HO) would be perfect!https://www.eileensemporium.com/materials-for-modellers/product/ratio-n-gauge-steel-truss-span-with-steel-trestle/category_pathway-4272 Wow that looks exactly like I'm after! This looks perfect if I attach some sides / railings to it & can cut down the piers to the right height. I dismissed laser cutting & 3D printing as a source of myself, I was looking at various people / groups who sell 3D / laser cut items, never thought about doing the desinign myself... Honestly I'm kinda scared about designing it myself because I've never done this before, theres also the cost factor as I can't afford to put £100's into this.
  5. Hello all, New member here (but do tend to lurk!), I used the search function but I couldn't find anything specific that was still accessible (ie old photos from before the server malarky) I'm not new to model railways but I am new to constructing a proper layout, currently I am trying to build a bridge over my layout (a figure of 8, I can post a photo if helpful). I'm not particularly interested in the typical brick bridge designs & I'd like to model a steel viaduct, in particular one like Meldon Viaduct down on the old LSWR route. However I'm struggling to find a steel truss design like that of Meldon Viaduct available for sale, I should specifiy I don't model realistically so I'm not looking for an exact replica I just want to mimic the style! At home I don't have any model constructing kit beyond basic stuff like a soldering iron, craft knives & various glues, nothing like a 3d printer or laser cutter! Would anyone be able to reccomend where I should even start looking at where to buy / how to bridge such as this (I've included a photo of Meldon Viaduct). I'm not adverse to creating somethign similar from a kit or purcashing various parts to put together to form a single model. Thank you 😀
  6. I feel like this doesn't work for me. I sign up to their newsletters & all I ever get is stuff regarding US products (I sign up from their UK site) & if I search the UK site for newsletters it doesn't contain archived copies of them.
  7. Absolutley can't wait for mine to arrive! Ordered as part of the first batch I beleive, should be a reasonable upgrade from my 70's Hornby model 😉 Favourite part of the model so far is the level of detail in the bogies!
