  1. I see many people using Sam's video as reference when talking about the lamps. I know some of you see Sam'sTrains as the Bible while some see him no more credible than GB News, alas, I don't care. Mind looking a bit further at Class47Peter's video? To me, the graphical way he ripped the lamps shows how ridiculous the lamps are, and to an extent how ridiculous the model is, more so than Sam running it with an LNER tender. Of course, his model his choice. I'm not in any way trying to criticise Class47Peter's way of handling his Black 5.
  2. If you logic stands, would it be equally unfair for somebody to label it as "Hornby's best/finest/ultimate Black 5"? This suggests the product is somehow inherently faultless, while others have had the product and found issues with it. Following your logic, would this claim be misleading and untrue? When everybody has no more than a single data point, what do you realistically expect them to do? The amount of right to compliment a product using a single data point should be balanced by an equal amount of right to criticise the product using a single data point. From the audience's perspective, the solution to overcome the "single data point" problem is simply to watch multiple reviews. If a person relies on a single source for reviews, whilst perfectly aware other sources are available, that person only have him/herself to blame.
  3. Has anyone done a side by side comparison of the old Black 5 and the new one? I'm interested to know if the "upgrades" are worth it. I've scrolled from page 27 to here, and there doesn't seem to be one. Having watched a few reviews on youtube (including Class47Peter and Sam'strains), I think it's fair to say everybody agrees you can't change the headlamps without completely ripping it apart. This sounds like a bit of a joke to me. Not to mention the tail lamp on the tender. Personally, I'd prefer having no head/tail lamp just like all my other steam locos over having a largely imperfect solution. ---- A bit off topic here. Accurascale people I know you're watching. If people don't like the giant Hornby lamps, they probably won't appreciate yours on the yellow Class 31.

  5. I can't overstate how much I love this comparison. I'm sure Tri-ang was trying to break into a market with at least 3 well-established scales, each with hundreds (if not thousands) of products, in the 50s and 60s. Not saying Hornby is wrong in launching TT120, but they have created a somewhat difficult task for themselves. Its success in the medium/long term will require some degree of scale loyalty (and perhaps brand loyalty too). No one really wants Hornby to fail. If Hornby TT fails, Hornby OO will certainly be impacted and that's not gonna be good for the hobby. Not to mention the impact it will have on modellers/families who have put their money in TT products. Same for anyone who is launching a new scale tomorrow/in the future, the later you do it, the harder it gets due to the existing scales in the market.

  9. Ooh, they finally got the tender to show. In mid October at GETS they paired the loco with an LNER group standard tender which looked somewhat silly.
  10. Interesting point. What about the 805s, 807s and 810s that are yet to be delivered? Are they also old products? From the discussions above, it would seem having a contract without an option to purchase extra units/coaches is not the wisest.
  11. I wonder if there is a demand for class members other than No.1, and to include some detail variations.
  12. Who in their right mind planned this route? Apparently the other direction is fine. (Edit: I discovered it's not. Eastbound 1U27 and 1U79 does the same thing.) Do they do it to avoid occupying the Leeds platform for too long and they don't have anywhere else to stable the train for 20 minutes? That's the only reason I can think of. Despite having 18 platforms, it does appear that Leeds have a platform shortage issue. Okay let's not digress further and stick to rolling stock.

It only becomes a problem when you over-diversify, which LNER is far from it. Avanti is also quite far from it, as the Hitachis are going to replace the voyagers, so they're not increasing the number of types of trains they operate.
  14. It works both ways. Having too many types hurts you, while having only one type hurts you as well. Say there's an issue with the Hitachis so you have to ground all of them, you still have the CAFs, vice versa. If you only have one single type, then you ground 100% of your fleet. Unless of course you're a small TOC like Hull Trains or Lumo where you only have a fleet of 5 trains.

Firstly there is already "More model ideas", secondly last time somebody wished for a King class, it got locked very quickly because allow me to quote AY Mod: I do suppose there are some techniques in creating wishlisty topics that would determine whether it gets locked or not(?)
