    EBay madness

Think I'm in the clear unless you sell tat, or it's been posted on here
  2. I keep saying this but made my last buy for a few months until I can offload a bit. A load of track and spare parts that was not attracting any interest for some reason. went for it mainly because I wanted a well hidden Triang pantograph and gambled on it not being broke so got lucky. what I wasn't prepared for was the amount of new old stock spare parts in there in tins and I spent a happy 3 hours yesterday sorting them out. Some of it will be kept for personal use but suffice to say for 22 pounds I have now overtaken Peter's Spares as the UK major stockist for princess valve brackets, Nellie wheel pick-ups and Hornby Dublo brush springs 😂
  3. I always leave feedback but currently getting naused to leave feedback for two items. both never arrived and got refunded so the most positive I could leave would be neutral, and as a seller myself I'm always reluctant to leave non-positive feedback unless the seller really *****s me off, but it's still reminding me like I've forgotten. . need to have a feature to cancel leaving feedback.

I've been offered it for 35. A small price to pay for proof of time travel 😎

I think you're all being a bit cynical here. Personally, I think it's finally scientific proof that time travel is possible and Mr. L. Andrews used his knowledge to save an awful lot of money by future proofing his public notices. As the Euromillions lottery was only rolled out to catch potential timetravellers, don't be surprised if it's mysteriously cancelled in the coming weeks now the truth is out there. *puts on tin-foil hat*
  6. I'd say it's almost certainly GSP. I stopped offering to sell overseas just before Brexit temporarily on a wait and see basis, but some hardy souls embraced the challenge and went through all the rules. Unfortunately the horror stories coming back from European customs just being deliberately obstructive made that permanent. - France was particularly bad. I don't know what it was like with goods coming in, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some tit for tat. It's highly likely it's settled down now, but the damage had been done and GSP stepped in. The advantage is customs won't mess around with ebay and if they do it's their responsibility. The downside is no-one overseas will pay the postage😂. A shame really because I didn't mind doing it even with the extra risk.
  7. After about 4 years searching I finally struck lucky this weekend. I have a spare dismantled Triang double ended electric diesel. It's main problem was the pantograpth roof insert had been accosted by a maniac with a soldering iron who had put about 3 holes in it. - I'm not the world's best solderer but even I know you can't solder to plastic. In 4 plus years I've only seen a spare on eBay once and that went for 25 pounds. Anyway a job lot of smashed bodies came up with this piece intact and I got it for a tenner. Seeing the pantographs alone go for 30 pounds each, a complete but playworn working one should get me the investment back. The other bodies will go into a special " 99p pile of tat" lot I'm planning😎

yes I think it would appeal to someone with a big terminus layout having a tube line running by the side of it and maybe disappearing into a tunnel as long as you don't look too closely at it. 21 watchers currently.

I'm undecided if this is an exercise in putting far too much work into something that wasn't much cop in the first place, or something a HD collector would kill for. Ever-ready Tube train

I think I've finally cracked up. Browsing through the newly listed/ending soonest on my searches this morning, I realised I'd saved my own listing to my watch list. May try a sneaky bid near the end 😎
  11. Do Hornby even cater for that market anymore? Not so much the toy train market but the entry level young adult market or those older returning to the hobby not looking to spend thousands. All I see at the low end is Beatles tat and generic 0-4-0 toy shunters or you can pay 80 quid for a jinty😂 The railroad plus range seem reasonable, but it's all diesels and if you wanted say a BR era medium sized steam loco and 3 mk 1's , it would cost you the best part of 350 pounds. There is no entry level train set unless you want the mallard at 250 pounds which I suppose is decent value. It's always dangerous to watch eBay for trends as it can change month to month but at the moment, mid sized nothing special 40+ year old locos are going for 30+ pounds on ebay, obviously to be used and the prices are rising fast so the demand is there. If you don't care about super detailed DCC stuff, a budget of 350 pounds gets you 5 locos, a job lot of wagons, coaches and track on ebay, while the other guy has his train and 3 coaches for a year for the same money if he's not after DCC (May have to lose a couple of coaches if he is). Personally I think Hornby rely on the collectors and purist modellers. Those that just want a train set moved on a long time ago I think.

Not so much a listing but a cry for help. For just 5 pounds a month* you can save these wretched items and The Enemies of Thomas will receive a donation enabling them to hunt down the culprit and confiscate his humbrol paints and plastic faces. (*29.3% interest via PayPal credit) Warning: cruelty to model trains Also an early candidate for a eBay bidding frenzy? Like it

have to admit I didn't clock it was 0 gauge with all the zero's in the listing.

yeah, every now and then he seems to have a funny turn and puts something on at a competitive price. From memory , these nameplates went for about a tenner new ( name of company on ebay that does them escapes me), so two sets of sealed nameplates that I really needed for a tenner I think, including postage was a decent deal. The alternative was to buy direct from modelmaster and seeing this was only 5+ years ago, I'd probably still be waiting for delivery. 😂

Buying from gostude at a good price is an eBay unlocked achievement and you get an extra star like teams get on their shirts for winning the Champions league. I bought two sets of Modelmaster (that other well-known chisseller) nameplates from him, and I got them for well below the price they go for.
  17. Logged into eBay yesterday to find my latest purchase had been refunded, and a rather indignant message from the seller saying "I took the photo, and the buckets and milk churns are the size of a ok(oo?) man." Which is fine but I didn't buy any milk churns. Or buckets. Anyway, seems that was meant for someone else, but he "can't find" my items. Whether they are really lost or he just refunded the wrong order and doesn't want the hassle of sorting it out i'm not sure. The upside is after looking again at the part I won it turns out that it wouldn't have fitted anyway so every cloud.....👍
  18. Had one of those deals this week that just falls into your lap occasionally, but which I usually miss out on due to procrastination. 4 locos and some stock going for 55 pounds, and my favourite type of business seller who doesn't deal with model railways, and is just looking to move it on. As an auction listing these would easily go for 65-70 with current eBay insanity and individually 80+ pounds. He had a best offer so I took the plunge and got them for 50 pounds with free postage. I actually bought them for a coach which is as mint as it looked in the photos👍

I hate the trend of piling lots of stuff in a heap so you can't possibly see what isn't complete/broken. Vintagehoneypots is a serial offender on this who even if he's not photographing huge landfill mounds from one angle, often takes one overall picture of the items, then 3 perfect pictures of some 2 pound wagon and ignores the more valuable stuff. Got to be deliberate, and seems to work judging by the price his stuff goes for.

Depends if anyone on here clocked it before I posted the link. One of the 5 was me, another one is probably Gostude seething at someone out-chiseling him, so that leaves 3. Think it has more than 8 watchers now, so that's probably our lot.
  21. Yeah these tenders will be used to move locos on. Without a tender probably worth +- 10 pounds. With a tender +- 20 pounds. . 2 pounds spent each on the 3 locos going vs the profit of roughly 24 pounds was worth doing imo. The profit is in reality more than that as the loco's were part of joblots that more than paid for themselves years back and these were just the leftovers. The 4th tender I need for a loco I'm keeping., plus there is some other bits that will come in useful. I am trying to follow Rule 2 and sell off unwanted stuff but there is always the nagging doubt that as soon as I sell off a part, I will need it - a not uncommon occurance. Plus I'm a bit of a hoarder😎
  22. One of the downsides of buying joblots of tat on ebay, is you tend to accumulate a lot of locos without tenders and vice versa. Last night I got lucky and managed to pick up 4 tenders for 6 pounds including postage. Considering you can easily pay that for 1 including postage i'm well chuffed.👍

I've certainly seen worse Neverwassa's and probably worth a tenner for novelty value. It was more the seller trying to pass it off as some sort of Triang rarity in the blurb with a price to match. Thing is I get the feeling someone will buy it - there was 5 people watching before I posted it on here😂

Have to admit I'm quite tempted by the fruit machine innards that he's listed as being convertible to a lamp, but I think I'll will wait for a lamp that's convertible to a fruit machine....
  25. If Ashley's mob are after it, they must be on their uppers. I wonder just how overextended they are with the whole TT project? A year down the line and they still only have 4? different loco's available? Shouldn't have done the dirty on Heljun methinks.
