A quick heads-up to the Triang Hornby collectors on here that one of the holy grails has popped up on eBay - The Stroudley 0-4-0 Terrier! From memory this had a production run of half a day when one of the Margate painters came back from the pub drunk. Probably best to get a bid in now before someone pays the BIN price of 350 pounds Mr. 99p!

The guy is obviously deranged. He wants nearly a grand for an electric toothbrush😳
  3. Ah, big seller then. I wouldn't get through 100 listings in a year.
  4. Blimey, they must like you.

Capture that moment in time when a scratchbuilder realises he's bitten off more than he can chew. This exquisite prototype was part of the cancelled Bradford Exchange "Oh dear, this isn't going well" range as No.6 "Maybe I should have made sure it ran properly before painting it"* This fully operable locomotive offers you the challenge of completing the original creator's vision, or leaving as a eye catching talking point on any lay-out 9.99 *possibly...

Mr. Vintagehoneypots has struck lucky with his piles of broken trains and random assortments of stock. I'm guessing the price on this lot is something to do with the Southern Hornby dublo tank tempting the collectors? R@RE

well if you're going to pay Hamley's prices, you want people to know you shopped there.
  8. Yep, very well engineered. I have developed a bit of a soft spot for them as I now own 7 of them. 😂
  9. oh and not really a good buy, but certainly goodbye to the money. I do occasionally dabble in Jouef mainly because its only me and two blokes in France that bid on them. a rather dirty sncf pacific from the late 60's/early 70's. has a broken buffer but should be easily fixable. 16 pounds including postage.
  10. been after a Ks motor for a while, mainly to look at to see if I can reverse-engineer the brush contact bits to get another motor working that's missing them. they seem to go for a bit surprisingly, so been on the lookout for one hiding as part of a joblot of bits which eventually came along. I was umming and ahing over whether to bid when the seller sent me an offer with 4 quid off so I now have a partially built gwr prairie. I think its a K's with Romford wheels? Also included was another metal tank body, and some parts I can farm on like motors so I should get most of my 19 pounds back. still left with what I do with the loco though. oh and anyone got an idea where the coach bogies to the left are from?

I'm tempted to email him to ask if he has some proof. Maybe a card with Dear Her Majesty the Queen Servant, Happy birthday Queeny

A once in a lifetime opportunity to own a train set bought by our late Queen who apparently used her connections to get hold of German N gauge Minitrix. A regal pricetag

Yeah I've got a duchess, two R1's, a class 4 tank and an 8f that I'm keeping. The 8F is very decent value because you can still pick them up for under 30 pounds if you're not a rivet counter and mine runs fine on modern Hornby track. The alternative is the Hornby tender drive version or the later 5 pole one but I don't think they're cheap. Failing that you can throw 250 pounds at the new version. Makes sense if you haven't got hundreds of pounds to splash out

The whole HD market on EBay has been incredibly healthy/overpriced since christmas compared to other makes. Not sure if there's a resurgence in interest but I've got my own 8F on there at the moment. Sadly I'm not expecting a ton as it's boxless and not dismantled😟

I wouldn't worry about it. Everytime I put on some tat that unexpectably goes through the roof, I think of those sellers flogging tiny parts for nearly the price of the complete loco or have a quick browse of Gostude's listings. Soon kills off any sellers guilt and there is the possibility people actually want it for what it is🤔

Invaluable info for the professional burglar as well. Not only do you know when they're out, but also that there's nothing worth knicking.

Now I know Graham Farish collectors are a bit mental, but still. Looks like a combination of mazak rot and melting/warping. Saying that, the box is probably worth the price to someone. Seems strangely underpriced for gostude. Normal bent, apparently.
  19. Indeed. looking forward to having a proper look. The seller has stuck a load more of these on if anyone is interested linky
  20. My first impulse buy of the New Year, and very much open to debate if it's a good buy, but certainly cheap. A house clearance company was unloading lots of kit locos, and this one got very much missed/avoided in the buying frenzy. A K's GWR tank engine which seems decently built if you ignore the paint/transfers. Probably going to be a pain to get to run, but at 8 pounds including postage it's worth a dabble I think.

I suppose you could use the chassis, but.....how do you accidentally melt a loco to this extent? Housefire? Store in a greenhouse? Gas mark 7 for 2 hours
  22. The itraveller 0-4-0 diesel set is half-way there to a point as it has the new phone technology (albeit DC), but there's nothing to the lay-out. if they can knock that out for 80 pounds, then a layout with a better model with some actual interest with the track and buildings for 160 pounds should be possible
  23. As I said its not the equivalent. How much does a medium sized loco cost for starters? Or the bridge or tunnel or the extra track for a 2nd loop and 2 trains? Of course you can add to it, but that's missing the point as an entry level set for a young person who doesn't want thomas, and with some built in playability. Arguing about inflation and quality is one thing but Hornby don't do it anymore. I very much doubt swifty will be on release list. Hornby know their market and an ageing Beatles fan tie-in is about right. 😉 unfortunately, that market is getting old too just like the Presley collectors market that collapsed a few years back. I
  24. It's 200 hundred quid and that's not the equivalent. It's got a naff engine and half the track and items http://hornbyguide.com/item_details.asp?itemid=435 I don't disapprove at all. It up to them. I just don't see a future in it unless people are going to start living to 150. The future customers are thin on the ground or else we'd be seeing a Taylor swift b-side train set.
  25. The coco cola thing is actually aimed at collectors. 😂 my bad, forgot they are aiming more for the Bradford exchange market nowadays. Back in the 70's when I got a train set it was the Lord Westwood set which had a station, a proper train, ,a siding and from memory a goods unloading dock. Show me an equivalent to that now? You can probably price it up to find the equivalent. I doubt I would have been interested in a 80 pounds 0-4-0 that you can run in one direction, stop and run backwards. I also had access to old cheap Triang/trix stuff that would run on that track so a ready made train set It's really up to to them if they don't want to cater for the young modeller anymore and concentrate on nostalgia and collectors - I'm sure that's where the money is.. For now. With Hattons talking about demographics changing in their closure statement, we'll see how that pans out, but I'm pretty sure you can't sell stuff to the cremated.
